My SIL just passed away. They tested for everything. The docs believe it was a strain of influenza.

Oh Joan, extremely sorry for the family especially during this Christmas. May the Lord truly bring comfort as only He can during such a time as this.

Joan, I am so sorry. Losing a loved one is so hard any time of the year, but moreso during Christmas holidays. I pray for comforting and peace for your family.

Merry CHRISTmas!

The Holy Infant

In the presence of the lowly beasts
The Prince of Peace was born
And to His earthy joyous cries
They bowed low head and horn
The Shepherds stood in wonder
As the Child they stood before
The Child the angel told of
Lay before them in the straw
Countless miles the Magi came
Having traveled from the east
In lavish robes they knelt before Him
And bowed lowly like the beasts
Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh
Were lain reverently before His stall
Precious gifts brought from afar
For the Holy Infant born for us all

one of my favorite Christmas Songs... in college I was privileged enough to sing this as a solo in the Christmas Concert!

Oh my goodness! I slept for 9 hours last night. I guess I was more tired than I thought! I am just chilling out! My youngest DS is going to take me to the library and Michaels when he wakes up. Unfortunately, he goes back home tomorrow. I miss him. he and I work together well.

DH is on my naughty list. Yesterday, he was freeing when he got back to his work garage at 4PM. He went into the office and sat next to the wall heater. He fell asleep. I called his work phone numerous times with no answer. He finally answered around 7PM. Meanwhile, my two sons, oldest DS's GF were waiting to open gifts. He came and picked me up at my sisters. We finally opened gifts at 9PM. He can anger a person. Good thing everyone was around or he would have heard about this latest misstep

Hello Ladies- you guys have been chatting since Thursday Evening. I left for my SIS's funeral with 2 of my sisters and a brother-in law at 5:30AM on Friday. Our drive to Chicago was stressful. It was snowing and blowing. We saw many cars/trucks in the ditch. It took us until 3PM to arrive. we did stop three times. My brother in law needed to stop and move around. Instead of staying with my brother who had pneumonia we stayed at a Holiday in in Naples, IL. We went to the wake on Friday evening. Saturday was the funeral. It was a 10 AM. The cemetery was a 50 minute drive away from the church. My nephew is on the SWAT team with the IL Hiway Patrol. So we had quite an escort with 6 SUV's driven by off duty officers blocking all the intersections. It was interesting to watch the vehicles zip past in the right hand lane and hop scotch to the next. The procession was never interrupted. As I was leaving the luncheon. I decided to fall front first on the cobblestone walkway. Needless to say my knees, elbows and hand are bruised and painful. It was very embarrassing. The drove home was uneventful. The drive only took 6 1/2 hours. Everyone down there was sick, coughing, sneezing, etc. So guess who is doing that today?

Joan, I'm so sorry for the awful trip. The reason for the trip was bad enough, but adding the bad weather, the fall and getting sick just makes the whole thing much worse. Hope you get to feeling better.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Are you sick of making the same resolutions year after year
that you never keep? Why not promise to do something you can
ACTUALLY accomplish?

Here are some resolutions that you can use as a starting
point:

~ Gain weight. At least 30 pounds.
~ Stop exercising. Waste of time.
~ Read less. Makes you think.
~ Watch more TV. I've been missing some good stuff.
~ Procrastinate more. Starting tomorrow.
~ Spend more time at work, surfing the web.
~ Take a vacation to someplace important, like to see the
world's largest ball of twine.
~ Don't jump off a cliff just because everyone else did.
~ Stop bringing lunch from home--eat out more.
~ Don't have eight children at once.
~ Get in a whole NEW rut!
~ Start being superstitious.
~ Personal goal: Don't bring back disco.
~ Speak in a monotone voice and only use monosyllabic words.
~ Only wear jeans that are 2 sizes too small and use a chain
or rope for a belt.
~ Spend my summer vacation in cyberspace.
~ Create loose ends.
~ Get more toys.
~ Get further in debt.
~ Don't believe politicians.
~ Break at least one traffic law.
~ Don't drive a motorized vehicle across thin ice.
~ Don't swim with piranhas or sharks.
~ Spread out priorities beyond the ability to keep track of
them.
~ Wait for opportunity to knock.
~ Focus on the faults of others.
~ Mope about faults.
~ Never make New Year's resolutions again.

That is too cute!! I know I've accomplished some of those resolutions in 2012. I know I can do more of them in 2013.

Hi, I was invited to be a member of the closed FB Group By Caterina last week. I wanted to see more about some of the women on that group, so that I'd feel more familiar, so I looked and found this Forum today. As I read Page 1, it sounded very familiar. I have lived with Major Depression a lot of my life, and Panic attacks on and off the last 20 years.

I would LOVE to join your group, if you would allow me to. I promise not to cry every day, and will try to offer some wisdom from being through a lot in my life. I will wait to hear from Michelle and Debbie. I'm not sure who the other members are that I don't know. This group might be just what the doctor ordered, and I would be honored to be part of it!

Hi, Linda. You're more than welcome to join us here. Glad you found us. It's been somewhat quiet lately with a lot of us on fb these days. You can cry on our shoulders all you want, here or on fb. We're here for each other.

My friend had her first chemo treatment last week. She had an allergic reaction, but they got it under control. She and her DH stopped by the library to see me while they were in town this afternoon. Their farm is about 50-60 miles from here. She looks great; she got a haircut so it won't be quite so hard on her when she starts losing her hair. Her next treatment is later this month. Please continue praying for her and her family. I don't know if I told you that her DH had lost his first wife and a sister to cancer. I hate to see him going through it again, but I'm glad he's there for Laura.

Debbie and Michelle,
Thank you for accepting me into this group. Everyone has really made me feel at home! Right now my depression is in check. I have taken 3 medications for quite a few years. I'm not sure if they still help or if they just keep me paying my shrink!!! Christmas time was hard for me, but I got through it. I isolate a lot, which I know is bad, but I save money that way! LOL
I'm sure it will be good getting to know you!

Debbie, I am sorry to hear about your friend, Laura. Does she have breast cancer? I'm sure it is super hard for her DH. I will be praying for her and her family. Does she have children?
So Debbie, do you work at a library?

Linda, I do work in our public library. I love it. I get a kick out of the people who say they would love to work in a library so they can sit and read. I laugh at them. Who has time to read while working?

Laura doesn't has a peritoneal cancer. They did surgery after Thanksgiving and got most of it. There is one spot on her liver and one on her spleen. Fortunately, neither has penetrated the walls. Her oncologist is confident they can get them with chemo. She goes in every 3-4 weeks to have a 5-hour treatment. She has to drive 250 miles for these treatments. She has a strong faith and a very positive attitude which should carry her a long way. I think she and her DH were talking about splitting but decided to put that on the back burner. I have to admire Ron for sticking by her. She has grown children and a couple of grandkids. She lost one son about a couple years ago to some kind of illness; can't remember what it was.

Linda - I'm so glad you looked for this thread. Many of those who posted early in the thread have left. I think FB contributed to the loss of a lot of SCS members, not just from here. There was one group of ladies I used to chat with and that thread just literally STOPPED one day. This thread and another that I visit have both really dwindled. BUT these ladies here are awesome. Very kind and caring. I invited Hedgie to join, too. I hope she checks out this thread as well.

Debbie - I didn't realize your friend and her hubby had been thinking of splitting. Yes, he IS to be admired for sticking with her. Especially with what he's been through in the past. A childhood female friend of my husband's had a rare form of bone cancer. She had been dating and living with a guy for a few years when this was discovered. I remember someone asking the girl's mother if she thought Dave would stick with Karen through all of it. Can you imagine? First of all, it is one thing to THINK it. It is another to say it outloud. AND ask the MOTHER of the girl with CANCER. Some people! Anyway, poor Karen lost her battle, but she and Dave were together through it all. They even got married through the ordeal.

Happy Saturday evening! I am praying for all!

I took a basic first aid-CPR class. I hadn't taken one in a few years. Very few things have changed. The big one was more faster chest compressions. DS and I both felt it was very basic for us. My oldest sister had been our instructor. She re certified the drs and nurses at the hospital. Her courses were much more in depth. I will get a card so I guess that is important.

The Love Dress ..

A woman stopped by, unannounced, at her son's house. She knocked on the door then immediately walked in.

She was shocked to see her daughter-in-law lying on the couch, totally naked. Soft music was playing, and the aroma of perfume filled the room.

"What are you doing?!" she asked.

"I'm waiting for Mike to come home from work," the daughter-in- law answered.

"But you're naked!" the mother-in-law exclaimed.

"This is my love dress," the daughter-in-law explained.

"Love dress? But you're naked!"

"Mike loves me and wants me to wear this dress," she explained." It excites him to no end. Every time he sees me in this dress, he instantly becomes romantic and ravages me for hours on end. He can't get enough of me"

The mother-in-law left.

When she got home, she undressed, showered, put on her best perfume, dimmed the lights, put on a romantic CD, and lay on the couch, waiting for her husband to arrive. Finally, her husband came home. He walked in and saw her lying there so provocatively.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"This is my love dress," she whispered sensually.

Needs ironing," he said. "What's for dinner?

He never heard the gunshot.

so funny!

If you don't see me for a few days, I am at my sister's up north. Internet service can be very sketchy. Have a good weekend. Please pray for my almost 102 yr old aunt and my sister's best friend. They are both in ICU.

Joan, praying for your aunt and sister's friend. Hope you had a good weekend.

Joanne, I know I shouldn't rub it in, but we've had a lot of sunshine lately. However, it did snow a little this morning. Not as bright today, but not gloomy either. It is only 8.

Have to share some wonderful news! My wonderful husband will be participating in the upcoming Shave For The Brave event on March 3rd in Baltimore. St. Baldrick's is a terrific organization that raises funds towards a cure for childhood cancer which most of you know is near & dear to my heart as a volunteer for Cole's.

Reynold just left for a 'hair cut' and said guess this will be my last for a few months.

Here is his page with a 'before' picture - after March 3rd will post his 'after' photo
Reynold Grove | A St. Baldrick's Participant

Caterina- Good luck to Reynold.

I am coming with another prayer request. My MIL is in the hospital. One of the valves in her heart is not functioning. If they do surgery she will need to be on dialysis. Dh is struggling with this issue.

My sister's dear friend is paralyzed. Her right arm is tingling all the time. So the docs believe it might come back. However, they did a tracheotomy and put in a feeding tube. My sister has bronchitis and is unable to visit her and her friend can not respond on the phone. She is just broken up!

On a good note my dear almost 102 yr old aunt started PT on Thursday. She is happy to be getting up and going.

Joan, I'll be praying for your MIL and your sister's friend. I'm sure it's real hard on your sister not being able to see her friend.

Good luck to Reynold.

My friend, Laura, stopped in the library to see me yesterday. For someone who is doing some pretty intense chemo treatmenst, she looks awesome. A stranger would not even know she's battling cancer. It fels good to get a hug from her. Thanks for all the prayers for her.

I received bad news today. My dear aunt is in hospice care. What an awful way to spend your 102nd birthday! Thanks to you that sent her cards. She is so excited to get happy mail.

Joan - your poor Aunt. She certainly is a fighter, though.
