For those of us in need of a lift...some encouragement

Don't know if there is a thread already to just give encouragement for the day but thought to start this one. We all need a little lift now and then. It is always good to know that there are people who genuinely care and want to reach out to those who are hurting - whether it is a big hurt or a little one.

Hope to meet lots of "encouragers" and get uplifting messages as well as looking forward to the opportunity to minister to others. I believe that God would want each and everyone of us to do our part to help everyone in whatever way we can.

So here is a beginning that a very dear Christian friend sent to me in an email yesterday...

"It isn't where you go or what you do that counts, it's what you do with what you have where ever you happen to be."

If I can right a human wrong,
If I can help to make one strong,
If I can cheer with smile or song,
Lord, show me how. —Kleiser

There is a "Need a Lift" forum, but everyone can always use some more! Thanks for the encouragement, I also believe God would want us to do what we can to help those in need.

Wow so happy to already have a reply from someone - didn't expect it so quickly and thank the Lord for it and you, too.

Good morning,
A prayer of thanksgiving for the privilege of being a blessing to others.

Holy Father, thank you for not just saving me, but for also
giving me abilities to use to bless your people and honor you. Help
me see the ways you want me to use my gifts today, and every day
that follows, to bless others. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Caterina, I think this is a lovely gesture and tho I bet it won't get a lot of traffic, just want to say thank you for doing this - I will try to bump it every once in a while.

Laurie, how sweet to drop by with your encouragement to me. Don't know how many will check in but if it helps even one person, it will be worth it. There are so many hurting people and there is a deep desire to reach out in every way possible.

Again, thanks and have an incredibly blessed day!

i love this "need a lift" section, but i also hate to hear of the tough times people are going through. like you said, we all need a lift every once in a while. what i do to lift me up is to send someone a card. it might not be anything fancy, i'm just hoping it would lift their spirits, if for just a moment.

gadget19 04-14-2008 08:54 AM

Caterina, thank you so much for your wonderful words. I am going through a really tough day and reading this thread helped.

I did a quick search and found this quote that I also found helpful:

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall."
~ Confucius

You and I have that in common - as soon as I hear of anyone going through a rough patch whether I know them personally or not, out goes a card, (mine are not all that fancy either). However, it is a great 'gift' and it seems to touch people's hearts. I know when I was ill, a card from someone lifted my spirits.

Thanks so very much for looking in and giving your idea.

Have a super day!

So glad you found this thread and thanks a bunch for your contribution with the quote. May the rest of your days look better and brighter.

Stop in any time and I pray you will always find something uplifting and encouraging when you do.

Caterina,
Bless you for the encouragement. Seeing your post made my day today!

How refreshing, thank-you. I come into the "need a lift" section now to give back/pay it forward to other people who are going through difficult times, sort of as a thank-you to all the wonderful ladies who took the time to make cards for my parents. I saw how much it's helped them and hope to do the same for others. It was really nice to come in and see this thread...
Have a wonderful week!
Hugs,
Tanya

Welcome, Tanya, glad to have you willing to 'pay it forward' and pray God's blessings on your parents and you, too. Certainly would love to send them a card for a bit of encouragement if they can stand just one more.

A little something for the day....

When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but
merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on
this sentence.....

'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not
protect you.'

Have a very blessed day.

Hi -

I just found this thread and feel very lucky indeed. It's great to get a lift when I'm feeling blue, but it's even better to give a little encouragement to someone who needs it. Here's a little Japanese proverb that I've always kept in the back of my mind since college, many many years ago.

"Fall seven times, stand up eight."

What a wonderful thread. I'm so glad I found it!
Linda's proverb helped me think of a saying that keeps coming into my head lately. It's that sometimes the Lord lets us fall so we look up. That helps me to remember to thank Him and to reach out to those who are struggling. Afterall, we are all in this together!

jenguin 04-16-2008 08:01 AM

Having a really bad day over here - emotionally bad. I try to be positive through all the hard times that I am going through right now and know that I am lucky and blessed. I have always felt that - just kind of hard to keep it all in perspective right now.
Thanks for posting some uplifting thoughts!

Jen, so sorry today is not a good day for you. We all find ourselves in that place from time to time. One of the things I say to myself is "this too shall pass" and it usually does although not as quickly as I would like.

Another thing that always lifts my spirits is reading Psalms. Most of them were written by King David and they are easy to relate to - one minute he is riding high praising God and the next Psalm, he is 'down in the dumps'. Sounds like real life.

Please know you are welcome to drop in, hopefully you will get a lift and be refreshed to fight the good fight.

I'm so sorry you are having a tough time right now. I know we can all relate. Somedays I just can't believe the stuff that comes my way, totally out of my control. It's hard to stay positive and hopeful when feelings are so overwhelming. But it is true, though, that tomorrow is another day. Perspective comes easier after some time has passed.

Caterina, this is a wonderful thread - thank you for keeping it going - I too find myself feeling better when I reach out and offer myself to someone else.

Jenquin, honey, pm me if you need a shoulder or want to vent, rant, etc. I have been wondering about you lately. You were SO kind to post for Sue and to send me a card, and to care about my parents - I would do anything to help you through your rough times.

Makes me happy too, so I check in each day. I found a nice quote about hope:

"Hope is putting faith to work when doubting would be easier."

Count me in on the 'happy too'. Continue to pray this will be a real encouragement - so very grateful for everyone's input.

There is no way I can think enough about tomorrow to get it all together before it happens. I have no idea what tomorrow may hold. However, for everything that has been, Lord, "Thanks", and for everything in the future, "Yes" because I know Your love has no boundaries.

Have a blessed day!

This is very wise. I grew up in a household full of anxiety and worry of what might be. It continued on into adulthood, although as I age I find I am mellowing ;) I've found the things I worried about never happened, and the bad things that did happen had never crossed my mind. I feel I missed much of the living part of life with all of the worry. So I try to remain hopeful and surround myself with friends and we lift each other up. I pray and turn over my worries to God, hopeful that in time things work themselves out, perhaps in ways I've never imagined. That's all I can do.

Your childhood memories sound a lot like mine and, like you, I struggle with worry and anxiety but have learned that 'worry cannot add a single hour to my life', in fact, it will more than likely rob and destroy.

Totally agree, too, that turning it over to God has been the only way to go (even though sometimes, sadly, it is a last resort instead of my first), and yes, He does have ways that are not even close to mine in working things out. God has been soooo very good to me along all the peaks and valleys.

ps “No matter how difficult life can be the most important thing is to live it with hope."

Excerpt from Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow

"Several years ago I read an article by Reverend James Hufstetler that put the comparison game in perspective:

'You will never really enjoy other people, you will never have stable emotions, you will never lead a life of godly contentment, you will never conquer jealousy, and love others as you should until you thank God for making you the way He did.'

"I would rather be what God chose to make me than the most glorious creature that I could think of, for to have been thought about, born in God's thought, and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest, and most precious thing in all thinking."

Each one of us is God's masterpiece, a workmanship that is very unique and special.

Have a great day!

Some encouraging words from Jonathan Edwards, a preacher from the 1700s. He wrote the following as his life purpose statement in the form of resolutions.

"Resolved, to live with all my might while I do live.
Resolved, never to lose one moment of time, to improve it in the most profitable way I can.
Resolved, never to do anything I should despise or think meanly of in another.
Resolved, never to do anything out of revenge.
Resolved, never to do anything that I should be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life."

Have your best day yet!

Hello God

Hello God, I called tonight
To talk a little while
I need a friend who'll listen
To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can't quite make it
Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me,
So I'll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep,
My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.

Give me faith, dear God, to face
Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can't change in any way.

I thank you God, for being home
And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice
When I stumble and fall..

Your number, God, is the only one
That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.

So thank you, God, for listening
To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God, I love You, too,
And I'll call again tomorrow!

Have an encouraging day,
Caterina

Caterina,

What a wonderful thread ! I love the "poem" somebody............... I am trying to be a more positive person & something that is helping me right now is remembering to pray to God when I'm having a good day!! Most of the time I have been praying when I'm having a bad day.

Choose to be changed: But we have the mind of Christ and do hold the thoughts of His heart.

I hope that everyone has a blessed week. God bless you all !!!!

If you want to cry, I will be your shoulder,
If you want to be happy, I will be your smile,
