Default Broken Magnets

My local stamp store got some MISTI in and I was so excited to get one. I opened it up and my magnets promptly stuck together. I read here to just slide them apart so I did and they came right apart and then broke in half. I have not heard of= anyone having this problem. Should I just use the pieces?

When I broke one magnet, I had previously bought replacements so I threw the pieces away. I think it is okay to use the broken pieces. Sandy Allnock said she got 2 when she received her MISTI but now has 3. Some people have been able to find replacements at Home Depot. Just check the 'My Sweet Petunia' shop for the correct kind.

Enjoy using your MISTI. I have had mine a year and have made good use of this wonderful tool.

My magnet snapped in half so I have one full one and two half. I still use them to hold down cards stock, just the halves are not as strong as the one s will get another when I can. I really try to make sure they dont get too close to each other as I have been pinched by them snapping together.

I bought my mags on Amazon. They were cheap. I've had them snap to eachother, to my scissors, to the wood stove pipe (I use the wood stove as a crafting station when it isn't on fire :-)), and I've never had them break. But I bought a package of 4 for around $2 so I have spares.

I also purchased smaller magnets (from Amazon) that are hella-strong. I use them to hang magnetic sheets full of dies on my walls. Those little things are amazing. Some times I use those in the Misti when I have a particularly sticky stamp that keeps pulling the paper up every time I lift the cover.

I'm new to Misti and paper was coming up with each stamping. 2 magnets did not seem to be enough, so I pulled some other round ones off my metal card display board (I put paper on one side so, no marks on my cards). They were from Hobby Lobby craft section. They are thicker than Misti's magnets, so I can't use them with clear stamps and black pad.
All magnets come in different strengths, so you can choose what you need: Light, medium, strong, extra strong. You can get magnet strips, too. Refrigerator doors stay closed with magnets under the rubber seal.

I'd love to hear more about the hella-strong magnets and your manetic sheets on the wall. Sounds like a great way to store/organize that doesn't require quality horizontal real estate!

I bought rare earth magnets at Home Depot same as the ones in the MISTI. They are also called Neodymium magnets...could also be a good name for a cat, don't you think? Or perhaps a Guinea pig...

I must have purchased the hella-strong ones at the hardware store because they are not in my Amazon history. The Misti magnets I bought from Amazon and they are the Neodymium magnets. The other ones came in a package of 6 or 8, they are thicker and do not have a pretty coating like the Amazon ones. They kind of remind me of a fat bullet. But 2 of those will keep a magnetic sheet that is 8"x15" and full of dies on the wall.

Several folks here mentioned hanging all the dies, and the easiest way to do that is with magnetic vent covers from Home Depot. IKEA also sells sheet metal that is folded on the edges (you can hang it like a picture), so I did put the vent covers on those and used the magnets to hold them on. I also use the magnets to hold the covers on my steel door and side window panels. This has changed my life! All my dies are visable, clean up is immediate and easy, and I use them all the time now.

I also have a couple by my craft table so I can toss the dies towards those (and they will snap up the dies LOL) while I am working. Otherwise I will lose those dies in the mess.
