Default Stamps transfering dye help

Hi there,
I was making swatches with a background stamps and using ranger dye ink well I clean off the stamp with a baby wipe AND the absorber but even after I have even stamped all the excess dye off etc when I go to stamp the next color the colors blend. I do not know if it is because this is a new stamp and I heard you can take an emery board very lightly and sand your stamp and you will get better coverage which is what I did but this is very frustrating, any help would be great. TIA

The My Favorite Things clear stamp cleaner is absolutely wonderful. Reds can stain your clear stamps but if you clean the stamps by stamping off as much as possible first and then use good stamp cleaner made for clear stamps you shouldn't get any residual. That being said, I tried always to use light colors first when i did my swatches.

Sometimes I really get after the ink with a baby wipe - you'll be amazed how much ink still remains after you "clean" a stamp the normal way - just rubbing it with a baby sipe and your finger can really clean that last little bit off.

Another good stamp cleaner is Hero Arts Ultra Clean. I first use a baby wipe then Ultra Clean on a stamp scrubbie pad. This has always worked great for me. Like Kepsss1955 said, reds especially may stain your stamp, but this cleaning method has always removed any residual ink from my stamps Nd given clean stamp colors.

I use Simple Green that I diluted 50/50 in a spray bottle. Cleans just about every ink except Staz-on.

I'm also curious as to what type of stamp you are using.
I don't find baby wipes to be the "best" cleaning method for my stamps. I will use them if I'm in a hurry and it's only one or two small stamps and I don't have my scrubber out....
BUT, my experience with baby wipes is I get little fuzzy fibers left behind on the stamp and those fibers can have the ink in them which will then bleed or blend with the next ink I use.

I will also use them to get to some ink in crevices or around the outside edges ( particularly on clear stamps) but always follow up with a good stamp cleaner and the scrubbing pad. And I usually see the build up of all those little left behind fibers in my scrubbie!

I use a babywipe and Ranger cleaner if needed.

When doing swatches, I always start with the lightest color and work my way dark. It makes a big difference in color contamination.

Oops...I think I messed something up....

I use a baby wipe and Ranger cleaner. I also stamp off several times to make sure it's no longer transferring ink.

When doing swatches, I will start with my lightest color and work to the darkest. I really helps against color contamination.

Sanding the stamp for a better surface to grab ink wont help with ink not getting cleaned off. I think those are two different issues?

I personally dont like baby wipes. I may be the only one on the planet. I dont find they clean well at all. I generally use simple green-though weaker than 50-50. If I have to, I will fall back to ultra clean.

Maybe you are having a problem with not getting the cleaning fluid off fully since that could carry ink with it? Or you have ink caught in crevices that wont show when you stamp off but will reactivate with the next inking. You may need to use a scrubby pad?

I use Costco Kirkland baby wipes and do not have a problem with fuzzies being left behind.

I use non alcohol baby wipes straight away, but after a few uses if the same stamp ( eg repeat stamping such as your swatch stamp) then I use stamp cleaner and stamp scrubber. Never fails to give top results.
Good luck with it marbet04

I know exactly what you mean. After I do all the steps you do, I ink up the stamp with the new ink color and stamp it several times on scrap paper and re ink and stamp again until the color is stamping true instead of a blend. There is something about inking it up with ink that seems to draw out the rest of the previous ink color even after you have cleaned the daylights out of the stamp.

Default Stamp Cleaners

I started using Hero Arts UltraClean and when the small bottle ran out I found out that the Stewart's brand UltraClean was the same product. Stewart's comes in a handy-dandy 8 oz bottle that I use to refill my original 2 oz spray container
