Default Thread Starter #8 (10-07-08)

Hi All!! I am super early this time I will probably start posting the thread starter at midnight.

My question today is "Is there a specific artist you would LOVE to see in concert?"

The reason for my question is because I recently purchased tickets to see Madonna. I am a HUGE fan of her music and consider her a musical icon. (This is her first time coming to Houston.) The hubby doesn't get it and thinks I'm nuts for not trying to sell my tickets instead. They are going for A LOT more than what I paid. To me, it's not about the money, but the experience of watching a live performance of a living icon. I can't WAIT!!

I'm drawing a blank on who I'd like to see. We have alot of good concerts come within driving distance and I tell me dh "we should go see that" and never follow through on it. I guess Bruce Sprngsteen would be one. Ever since I missed out on buying tickets in 1984 I've been kicking myself!

A few other bands/artists that are no longer around that I would love to see are Guns 'n Roses and Johnny Cash.... pretty extreme difference between the 2!

Can we jump back in time?? Hee hee...my mom always told me I was born in the wrong time period - I am a Beatles FANATIC - so I suppose I would have to say I would have loved to have seen them in their hay day - so I would have to say a concert I would love to see nowadays would be a Paul McCartney concert...

BTW - have fun at the Madonna concert - I would definitely not sell either - it's Madonna!!!

I go to concerts all the time, but if I could see anyone in concert, I would LOVE to see Bon Jovi....I just LOVE him, and have never got to go see him yet!! I have to drive a ways away to get to any concerts, in fact, the last one I went to was in Indianapolis. It was a 4hr drive to see Nickelback, but TOTALLY worth it!!

I totally wouldn't sell the tickets, how fun will that be!!

I would love to see Pearl Jam in concert. But back in the early 90s when Eddie wasn's so weird and political. I saw them once in '99 and it was the best concert I had ever been too!

I love to go to concerts. I don't seem to go to as many as I used to. My favorite band since I was 12 is U2. I have now seen them a total of 11 times. The November before last I flew to Montreal to see them as they were not playing any dates in Western Canada. Their shows are always fabulous!

There are many people that I would love to see but I just can't justify paying the prices they are charging for their tickets. Three weeks ago I went with my family to see Elton John. The tickets were $186.00 a piece!!!! He put on a fabulous show and it will probably be the last time I see him so we decided to go, but just think of all the stamps I could buy with that!!!

Michelle - Funny story about Guns n' Roses. I went to a Cult concert when I was 17 or 18. The band that opened up for them was Guns n' Roses. There was a whole group of us that went. Out of the 15 or so of us that were there only three of us loved the opening band, everyone else hated them! About three months later one of the guys that hated them started talking about this fantastic new group who had the song Welcome to the Jungle. lol Gn'R didn't play here in Calgary again until a year or two ago and it just wasn't the same!

I wouldn't sell Madonna tickets. I totally get why you want to see her.

Now please don't judge, but the artist I was dying to see a couple of years ago was Celine. I finally got to go a couple of months after she opened her show here. I went 2 more times She is a really wonderful performer!

Now why would we judge that??? She has an amazing voice! Sometimes she can be a bit weird, but her talent is unquestionable. I have seen her twice and she puts on a great show.

I'm a little younger...and I have always wanted to see Usher in concert. I love Madonna and would love to see her perform! My favorite concert that I've been to was John Mayer at Red Rocks in Denver. The most I ever paid was for Janet Jackson tickets...and she was awesone.

I'm not much into music, but would have loved to see Elton John when he was in town a couple of weeks ago. Those tickets were just too expensive for me.

I am a huge Tim Mcgraw Fan and I have seen him in concert many times, and paid for front row. He puts on an awesome concert. I love Faith Hill too, actually before her and Tim married...Went to the Soul2 Soul tours, but Tim lets it loose when he does concerts with Kenny or other males...

I have been to tons of Country Concerts, but few non-country. I saw Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac in college..and Billy Joel

Took my son to his first concert to see All American Rejects and Fall Out Boys...His dates mom and I stood in the way back...Not my kind of music..
I would love to have seen the Beatles, the Monkies!! or Elvis!!

How funny! I love all the artists mentioned in this thread, how amazing we all have similar tastes! The one full band I have never seen and would LOVE to is YES. We used to go to tons of shows, but not quite as many anymore since concert tickets are SO expensive, but I did get to see The Police in May and we are going to see Tina Turner in November. She's an icon and it's not like there will be many opportunities to see her in the future. I've seen Sting many times, John Mayer, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, BIlly Joel, Annie Lennox, Duran Duran, The Cure, Rush, I am sure I'm forgetting a ton!!!

I know this is going to date me, but I am a huge Neil Diamond fan! I saw him in concert last year, and let me tell you -- he may be 65+, but he puts on one heck of a show. He was on stage the entire concert (no breaks for the old man to rest, LOL!).

Oh I am a Neil Diamond fan too Lois .... have seen him a few times in concert down here.

The one I would love to see I know I will never see again .... and that is John Denver. I was lucky enough to attend one of his concerts when he was downunder many years ago and it was the best I have ever attended. I was sooo sad when he died.

I love seeing TSO in concert! They make it such a show so its not just about the music (which is awesome by itself). Definitely cool to see other things so its a different experience than just listening to a CD.

<--------is jealous that you got to see him in concert...

I'm guessing he was as good in show if not better than his recordings???

Fun thread! I've never seen U2 in concert and would love to! I always enjoy seeing the Barenaked Ladies - they are true entertainers. Hubby and I see Eric Clapton and B.B. King whenever they come our way. I drag hubby to see Bryan Adams whenever I can.

Geez, this is a hard one for me. I have seen quite a few of the above mentioned artists in concert. I would LOVE to see Madonna. I do like a lot of her music, but it would more for the experience. I know that some of you will laugh, but I would put Michael Jackson in the same category. It would just be such an incredible experience. When I was in college, I would go to see local bands (the good ones) at the local watering holes. I loved that setting so much better than huge concerts. My fave of those being Stephen Ashbrook. His voice is so AMAZING!! www.stephenashbrook.com

Wow, that's a tough one! I am very fortunate that I've seen so many great artists over the years -- REO Speedwagon, The Police, U2, .38 Special, Fleetwood Mac, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, James Taylor, Toby Keith, Steely Dan, Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Goo Goo Dolls, Counting Crows, Bryan Adams, Rascal Flatts, Rod Stewart... I know I'm forgetting a lot of 'em!

We just saw Rod Stewart a couple months ago -- it was amazing! He puts on such a great show!! I never liked him much when I was younger, but I SO appreciate him now!

Someone I'd like to see but haven't -- Tom Petty. I heard his concerts are great! He was here about a month ago, but we couldn't go. I'm hoping he comes back!

Ana, you're going to be so glad you kept the tickets. We went to go see Madonna just before I got pregnant with my older son and we paid a LOT of money for the tickets. But, let me say that it was worth every penny, she was amazing!!!

This summer we went to go see John Mayer, and although he makes some very bizzare facial expressions while singing, it was a phenomenal show and I had the best time!

Well i'm the odd one out. I would die to see Josh Groban! He is all I listen to until Christmas songs are on.

Only concert I have been to was Yanni. That was awesome to see him and his orchestra live.

OMG I am with you on that! I LOVE BON JOVI! Sorry to hear you haven't seen him! If they do have another tour you should try and make a little trip of it because you WILL LOVE IT.

I think I have seen at least one show from every tour since 1992. I missed the crazy shows in the 80s. Although this last tour for Lost Highway I didnt make it. I'm about an hour to hour and half from the major concert venues so it's not bad at all. Since he is a Jersey boy seeing him at Giants Stadium was probably the best.

I would LOVE to see U2 in concert...I just have this "thing" for Bono And I'd love it if Lilith Fair came back...headlined by Sarah Maclachlin and with all the 'new' and 'old' great women singers/groups there.

Love Mercy Me...I Can Only Imagine has to be one of my favorite songs ever.

I went my first concert when I was 14. It was KISS (If It's Too Loud, Your Too Old). Queensryche opened for them. I have been to several concerts since then. I was privileged enough to see Darlene Zchech this past weekend in St. Louis. This weekend, I am taking my DD to see the Cheetah Girls for our third adoption anniversary. She gets to pick something every year for the ocasion and she told me this year that she wanted to do something special "just the two of us". This will top all concerts just being able to be with her.
