Default Super photographs !

I'm a huge fan of MFT and follow all the DT's blogs regularly. I am in ore of the projects you make and you have probably been asked this question many times but do you use light boxes or light tents to take photos of your projects ?

I am so disappointed in the photos of my cards and have tried everything but the step of buying a light box/tent and lights.

I do hope you can help me.

Many of us use light boxes, but not all of the team does. We'll be addressing this in a future creative chat, so stay tuned.

Santa brought me a lightbox for Christmas and I'm SOOOO happy with it. I normally shoot by a window with natural daylight but in the winter we don't get enough light in our house.

My hubby got the light box off Amazon. I wasn't happy with the halogen lights that came with it (they got WAY too hot) so I bought two 60 watt desk lamps for each side and they work great. I shoot with a dSLR using a 35 mm/1.8 lens and then I adjust in Photoshop.

I used my lightbox at 9 pm at night for this recent MFT card:

And my box is even big enough for a 12 x 12 layout. I used the lightbox for this one:

Jennifer, your card is adorable!

Thanks for the info! I haven't gotten the light box (yes..hee hee) but I have 2 desk Ott lights...I wonder if those would work well with the light box.

I have two small OTT lights and did use them with the light box but I found they weren't quite as bright as I wanted. I'm not a pro with my camera though so I'm thinking they would work fine if you knew how to manually set your exposure/white balance in your camera (which I do not LOL!)

Thank you so much for the links and thanks for telling me about your tent Jennifer. Your cards and layout look gorgeous and this is the look I want to achieve. I'm looking forward to seeing the MFT creative chat on this subject.

I'm just worried about spending all that money and it makes no difference. I have fiddled with the white balance until the cows come home with no difference so I'm hoping that having a tent will help that.

Thanks for your help x

The internet is full of DIY light box designs...there are even instructions for folding ones! The designs run from simple boxes to all kinds of tents. I made mine really cheap with just a cardboard box and a few sheets of tracing paper I purchased at Michael's.

Hiya!
I recently made a fold up light box with a link I found online, the lights I'm using with it are not bright enough though but it's nice to have the light diffused by the tent. I'm on the lookout for some better lamps to use.

Here's a link to the pic of it on my blog and the link to the tutorial is there too.

All the recent pics of my cards on my blog and in my SCS gallery are taken in it then edited in Photoshop or similar. Oh, and my camera is RUBBISH!

Jennifer, your scrapbook page is adorable, too! (sorry I didn't mention that in my first post)

Which light tent model did Amazon Santa bring you?

I am so glad to have come across this thread. I usually scan my cards and am rarely happy with how they look. I used my Ott light and two white looseleaf binders to create my own version of a light box and just look at the difference between my two cards!! I am so excited! I replaced my scanned image with the photo in my gallery! I can hardly wait to do it again! Thank you SCS Friends, for sharing your expertise.

I was very discouraged as you are so a few years ago I bought a light tent/box from Ebay for $20. It folds up because I have no space to leave it set up. It made a real difference in my photos. I think using a good editing program helps so much as well...I use Picasa, it is free.

Unfortunately, Picasa is closing in a few weeks I am going to miss it! The google program that is supposed to replace it doesn't have the features that I use.
