MFT April Guest Designer Contest! Win over $125 in prizes!
Hi MFT fans and guest designer hopefuls! It's time for the MFT Guest Designer Contest. The winner of this contest will win over $100 in stamp sets AND have the opportunity to play along with the design team for the May release. MFT always has amazing stamp sets around the corner and getting (and stamping with) them early is a special treat.
This month, Michele and I are the hostesses and we are challenging you to show us your shabby chic side. What is shabby chic, you ask? Let me quote a definition I found on-line to inspire you:
Shabby chic items are often heavily painted through the years, with many layers showing through obviously time-worn areas. The style is imitated in faux painting using glaze or by painting then rubbing and sanding away the top coat to show the wood or base coats. Fabrics tend to be cottons and linens, with linen being particularly popular, inspired by old French linens. Whites and worn or bleached out pastels are favorite colours. Fabric is often stained with tea to give it the look of old fabric. Bleached and faded are terms often applied to the style.
The essence of today's shabby chic style is vintage and antique furniture with the original aged paint, or painted white (or another soft pastel color) and distressed at the corners by sanding.
Popular decor items are pillows made of vintage barkcloth fabric, vintage linens, chenille bedspreads, vintage chandeliers, and anything with roses on it. It is a soft, relaxed feminine romantic way of decorating that looks comfortable and inviting. Also called cottage style.
Interpret as you may, and feel free to take some creative freedom. We're looking for well-executed cards/projects that show good technique and style. Ready for the challenge? Here are the details:

Michele and I made a couple shabby chic cards to demonstrate the style.
What a FUN challenge, I can't wait to see everyone's samples. Wrinkled, torn, stitched and layered... here's my sample using lots of new goodies from the April release! I added a close up shot to show off this fabulous new banner die. I LOVE it!

Now I read on one of the DT's blog that there will be a punch out tool for the doilies. Is this true? and will there be one for past doileys as well?
Can one of the DT members have a little tutorial on it!?

Wow I am being demanding!!!!
There will be a Pop-Out Tool included with the new High Tea Doily. It is VERY intricate and looks SO amazing die-cut.
At this point there is not a plan for a Pop-Out Tool for past doilies. They are not very ornate, so it doesn't take long to pop out the pieces, BUT Kim is ALWAYS open to customer suggestions, so if it is highly demanded, you never know.
One of the DT members has a video tutorial on it (Arlene), so go check out her blog.

yes, there is a punch out tool that is sold with the new High Tea doily, it's very cool and soooo helpful. Arelene has a tutorial on her Youtube channel showing this great tool. check it out HERE
That doily is beautiful. and not sure about the others, as of now this is the only one.
I agree, with Jody and everyone else....don't be scared. The cool thing about shabby chic is, you really can't mess it up. Distress, tea-dye, and add pretties to your project.....then, wha-la!
this style is intimidating at first, but once you start, it's kind of addicting! I used to be afraid of it and now I love it. Besides, what's a challenge if it doesn't stretch your creativity????!!!!
Good luck and have fun!
Thanks for the awesome challenge! I'm so excited to finally ink up my new MFT Pure Innocence - Daffodil! I tried to upload this to my gallery and into the proper area here but it was being fickle tonight so I'll check back in the am.
Hope everyone's having a great night!
Crafty Hugs!

I'm joining the "I'm not good at shabby chic" club. In that definition are all kinds of things I don't do: distress, pastels, staining, etc, lol! IF, and that's a big IF, I do come up with something, it will be a VERY loose interpretation of shabby chic.

Thanks Lisa and Jody for the link. checked it out. She did a nice job.
Well I picked up some paper to create this card yesterday....but I still have no idea what I am doing...I am loving all the entries so far ladies!
I didn't realize that there was a tool for the little pieces in the Hig Tea Doily, but I loved the video! It looks pretty neat!
