will there be a mixed media section for the gallery, or will we just share here?
As the gallery works on keywords for most everything, I already put "mixedmedia" or "mixed-media" in when I do anything that merits it. I guess if we all get in the habit they should be reasonably easy to find and if the gallery folk want to make a section anytime, there will be stuff in it!
Why not start a thread with your question in this section of the forum, Jocelyn? It won't get buried in general "welcome" chit chat and will be easy for you and others to find in future that way.
QueenofInkland turned me onto this forum and I am so glad. I just got started in mixed media and it's a blast! I can't wait to learn, share and have messy fun.
Was there an announcement about this forum? I just happened upon it by accident, and it's kind of hard to find the forum. I love that it was created, though!

Maybe I'll put a note up in General Stamping - good idea!
Lol, I was looking for them in this section. I really do need to pay more attention to the home page and actually read it sometimes. Whoo Hoo!! I'll check it out, thanks!!
I just noticed the note on top of the Forum about this new Mixed Media section!! Yeah!! Thanks for doing this! I've been having fun with the Friday challenges and I know some people have commented on being afraid of this technique....hopefully our tips and discussions will take the "fear" out of "mix"
Just found this part of SCS. Thanks so much for setting it up. I am very new to mixed media and having so much fun already. I have so much to learn still!
Glad to see this forum here- I just dabble a bit, but would really like to indulge and 'play' alot more....! I have seen your challenges, just need to take more time to jump in and join them!
The link at the top of the forums pages is pure genius. ^_^ That's how I found the mixed media section today, after logging in for the first time in approximately forever.
I am so disappointed. This forum has tons of members and some interesting things on my first pass, so I registered. It was only then that I discovered that this is a card making site. Sure there is quite a bit of paper and stamping fun, but there is only a token mixed media presence. Worse it is as if cards were the only way to use stamps.
I am so disappointed. I have used collage and rubber stamps together for a very, very long time. I'm no fabulous card designer/crafter/artist. I put most of my work in visual journals because that's the best way to safely store my art.
I certainly do not limit myself to acceptable card sentiments (just the word gives me pause). I have lots to "say" with my art that can't be found in the Hallmark aisle. In fact I stamp the few cards I do make with a VivaLasVegas rubber (not clear) stamp that says "When you care enough to send the hairy beast." So this is my mistake. I should have looked at the galleries first.
I'll mine the tutorials and reviews awhile. I'll seek out the stampers with weird senses of humor which are always a lot of fun. I'll stay away from the swaps and challenges that all require "cards be uploaded". Then I'll go back to looking for a forum that has something for me to be involved in.
I am so so so disappointed.
I answered you in your other thread - don't be disappointed - share.
We don't require cards for any of our challenges. Many people talk in "cards" because that's what most people make, but it's not a requirement. Look around a bit and I think you'll find what you're looking for

You are right. The mixed media presence here is very limited. This "mixed media" section is tucked under tutorials, which has nothing but old posts. The only other "mixed media" area I've seen is in the challenges section. Both are areas that I seldom venture into. But I hope to change that very soon as I have a keen interest in starting an art journal of my own.
A quick history lesson ... this site was started by and for Stampin' Up demos, which is why it has such a strong cardmaking presence. But many of the members here are talented in working with a variety of media. I know there are several who have art journals.
This site just wrapped up its annual card drive for a large cancer center. With that behind me, I ready to try my hand at art journaling. I want to play with paint and tissue paper and gel medium and all that stuff, but I need to find a way to do it on a budget.
Stick around and together we can liven up these threads -- and maybe one day get management to pull mixed media out of the sub groups and give it a heading all its own, which I believe will encourage more people to post here.

I'm not sure what you mean - it does have a heading of it's own - it is actually in the techniques forum under it's own heading (not tutorials) - because Mixed Media is a technique.
I am management
I don't know how to classify Mixed Media outside of a technique - what is your idea?
My bad. Obviously I have a LOT to learn about mixed media!
I thought techniques was a how-to section, a place where people discussed the tutorials and such. And I did not know that mixed media was considered a technique. I thought it was a broader term for using various paints.
It is probably obvious that the only art class I took in college was art appreciation--nothing hands on. Before that, I think the last art class involved gluing shells to construction paper when I was in second grade.:oops:
Because my thinking was twisted, I thought Mixed Media needed to be a main heading, like Scrapbooking, Tools and Products, or General Stamping. I know a lot of people are doing art journals these days and I'm not quite sure where that discussion would belong. Under techniques?

I might sparingly test - tiny dots - of Ranger’s Multi Medium Matte on a small area, since it’s very strong but gives you wiggle time, and dries both clear and matte so is almost invisible. Applying on the intersections could work. I once bought a box that came covered in burlap but some edges had pulled up, and it worked well, though was not an entire sheet.
