What is the Mix-Ability Challenge?
Welcome to the Mix-Ability Challenge! Our challenge is every Friday, beginning February 1, and we'd love for you to join us.
Our goal is to make mixed media simple and approachable, and to let you experiment using things you already have.
Here are our guiding principles.
This is a mixed media challenge, with the goal of teaching people how simple Mixed Media can be, and how you can get a range of looks with Mixed Media - Clean & Simple, Vintage, Modern, Abstract, Grunge and much more.
A "medium" can be any of the following:
Pencils - wax, oil, watercolor, graphite/charcoal, chalk/pastel
Pastels - chalk, oil
Markers - watercolor, pigment, water-based, acrylic
Pens - ink, glitter
Pigments - Gelatos, watercolor crayons, metallic rubons
Paints - watercolor, acrylic, oil, poster, tempera
Inks - dye, chalk, distress, reinkers, pigment, hybrid
Powders - mica, pigment, chalk
Sprays & airbrushing
Dimensionals - embossing paste, gesso, fabric, found items, papers (collage, piecing) & ephemera, foils
Heated elements - encaustic wax, embossing
And a "mix" can be any two or more of these items or others.
We will post a stash shopping list for each challenge ahead of time, so that you know what you'll be working with each week.
See you soon!

Two weeks ago, in a fit of delusion about having more time than I do and needing another hobby, I *almost* signed up for a mixed media class. Sanity returned and I didn't but obviously the universe is telling me I NEED to do this. I also happen to need to go to the craft store today so will pick up the necessary items for the first challenge.

Ooooohhhhh I love my Gelatos! I just played with them again this weekend. They are awesome little sticks - looks like colored Chapstick tubes - of rich creamy color. You scribble them on your paper, get your finger wet, and rub, baby, rub! Makes for awesome blended/rubbed/watercolored backgrounds!
Or you can rub them directly on your stamp, mist it with water, and stamp on your cardstock. You get an artsy watercolor-y stamped image.
Oh yeah, I love my gelatos!

Oooh, so glad I was trolling the forum today...I've always wondered what other ways there were to do mixed media...I've just seen it in grunge version and that isn't me at all. so looking forward to this...I've got enough supplies to start with...good thing since I already went to Michaels 2 times last week...teehee...

This looks like fun, and a great way for me to start using some of the supplies just sitting around waiting for some mix-media inspiration!
