Challenge Title: Back to Kindergarten Hostess: Understandblue (Lydia) Keyword: MIX65
Come on now - we all know that kindergarten was insanely fun. I remember awesome napping, fabulous lunches my mom sent with me, my BFF Scarlett, and COLORING!!
I was fortunate to attend a kindergarten where the headmistress was dedicated to having us experience both art and the outdoors every day and it has been a big influence on my life.
Kindergarten is also where I truly learned to appreciate that waxy wonder we all know as the crayon.
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to learn that I could legitimately keep and use crayons as an adult through stamping!
So today's challenge is to incorporate crayons into your project (along with at least one other medium).
Here are some options for you:
Crayon Rubbed Embossing:
Melted Crayon Background
Crayon Resist
You're never too old to use a crayon!
I actually did a hybrid for my sample - I embossed some watercolor paper, rubbed a yellow crayon over the raised portion and then watercolored Tempting Turquoise over the rest and burnished the crayon portions to pop the yellow back out.
So pull out those crayons and get creative - remember, our goal is to make mixed media easy, approachable and FUN! No rules, just inspiration!
Looks like a fun one, thanks Lydia! Lovely, diverse samples from the team, too. I'll be reunited with my stamping supplies tomorrow so I hope I can play along this week.
Oh hey - cool. I tried using crayon on an ef last night, and while it didn't work out for what I wanted, maybe I can recycle it into something this afternoon!
It is almost 11pm here and the shops are shut!!! I will be back tomorrow after I buy some crayons. The tutorials are great and I love all the different inspiration cards.

Underneath The Surface Is...
Well, I couldn't even redeem my failed white crayon resist from Thursday to turn it into something, so it was right back to the drawing board.
Since I have bought at least 4 or 5 different white crayons over the years trying to get better results for some of these techniques - without success - I gave up and really did go back to kindergarten with my technique, more or less.
Thanks, Lydia - this was fun!!
Lydia,
This is a wonderful challenge! I loved reading your write-up. I loved my crayons as a child - loved em'. Can you believe I've never tired this technique. I better get busy! I loved all three videos - wonderful ideas and great cards.
We were playing with Play Doh with Teddy after dinner yesterday. His little hand coordination is getting so much better. He can make a pancake, roll the rolling pin - fun stuff. Our son is becoming quite accomplished as well
And to all the ladies who have played this challenge - very nice cards!
My story is on the cards posting. HERE is my card for this challenge. Thanks for all you do for us and this was a fun challenge even though it turned out to again be tooooo much work for me!
Here is my card for this weeks challenge - Crayon Resist. I'm going to try this again. Actually, I'd love to try a card using each one of the videos you shared Lydia.
You can certainly see the crayon resist on the right side where I colored with a white crayon all down the right side of the panel. The watercolor just swishes right over it. Sadly, it's difficult to see the outline around the butterfly. I burned the edges of the panel and placed it on another resist panel that is embossed.

Thanks Janelle for your encouraging comments!! I really had a great time with this challenge and am sure my crayons will be coming out to play again soon- lol!!
Just managing to sneak in before there's a new challange - I didn't get to stamp as early in the week as I hoped! Here's mine, thanks for the chance to break out the crayons Lydia!
