Default MIX50 - Color It Twice (JAN 10 2014)

Challenge Title: Color It Twice
Hostess: SweetMissDaisy (Anna Wight)
Keyword: MIX50

VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE

Ready for a new Mix-Ability challenge?!! We hope you're having fun with these! Our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!

This week's challenge is to color your image with markers (alcohol markers -any brand- recommended). Then, add MORE color to the already colored areas with colored pencils. Use the colored pencils to enhance the already colored image or to add visual texture. These are two mediums that work great together!

My Card:
Think Spring MIX50 - Anna Wight by SweetMissDaisy - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Remember to use the keyword MIX50 when uploading your creations to the gallery, come back and post a link, and let us "ooooooh" and "ahhhhhh" over your works of art!

Here are some samples to inspire you!

Hmmm - it's going to require some thought given to the image I use before I can play along, as all I have by way of alcohol markers are 10 Sharpies in VERY strong vibrant colours! But I'll review the Resources tutorial on Copics with pencils and hpefully get get inspired because it sure sounds like a fun challenge and the samples look amazing! Thank you, Anna.

Yay - Beate's tutorial says no need for shading with the markers. So maybe I can play even with only one marker in each color, LOL. I'll be along right after work, in that case.

Sabrina, you could try brayering a light layer of acrylic paint over the marker if it's too vibrant or add highlights with your pencils instead...

Thanks for that suggestion, Dina. Beate's tutorial was a GREAT help, seeing that she only used 3 markers - and I think I've even picked out one of Anna's WSD floral stamps that will work with brights , but after that I'll put your suggestion on the "try it out" list, for sure.

I've done that with DP to tone down colors a bit. I was just thinking that a light coat of white spray paint might work too.

Acrylic I do have - in fact I just had to buy more white , but my spray paints are limited to gold and silver.
Since I was afraid of going back to sleep with only twenty minutes to the alarm, I've actually got an image stamped and partly coloured, ready to finish off after work.
DH has been telling me I "need" Copics, LOL, after he tried (against my advice) colouring a large area with Marvy LePlumes.

My double coloring is teeny tiny, but it is there. I should be mentioned that one should not reverse the coloring order if you are using waxy pencils. Wax from the pencils will ruin your Copics if you use them after using waxy pencils.

Thanks for the fun challenge, Anna! Along the lines of Sabrina's dilemma, I used a white Prismacolor pencil to tone down the color in areas and highlight them Here's my Thinking of You. Thanks so much for looking!

BTW, Dina, you might want to add the MIX50 keywords to your card, lol. I can see the thumbnail above, but it isn't in the MIX gallery

I knew that the darker pencils would shade well but was surprised at how well the white pencil worked to soften some spots. Thanks for the challenge and chance to learn, Anna! Here is my Believe card.

Thanks for this challenge Anna. I just got some copics and started using them. This was kind of a nice way to disguise my coloring. Daffodil Delight... by Luv Flowers - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

This was a fun challenge for me.. Markers and me never really got together very well but I must say using them in combination with the watercolor pencils was fun.. Sorry the green on the card is way more vibrant in the picture than real life..lol...

this is mine, will work on getting a blog post done so a crop shot can go there. its hard to see the pencils over the markers on the full card ( small image ) but, it did add some interesting texture streaks.
