Default MIX37 - Gridiron and Hash Tags

Challenge Title: Gridiron and Hash Tags
Hostess: Scrapacat (Ky)
Keyword: MIX37
VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE HERE

Ready for a new Mix-Ability challenge?!! We hope you're having fun with these! Our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!

This week I just want you to learn a new, fun way to use your beautiful die cuts and line-art style images. We're knee deep in fall sports around here, and I see a ton of grid lines and hash marks (not to mention the hashtags of Twitter and Facebook fame!). How can you use those to create a beautiful project? The photos in the next post of this thread give you the step-out.

The challenge is to use pen/pencil grid lines with any other mixed media item to complete your project. Feel free to combine with any other challenge, but make sure you use ALL the right tags when you post so everyone can see it (especially if you're combining).

Since the Hope You Can Cling To challenges are rolling along, Id love to see you combine these, but its your choice. If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome (cards only for HYCCT, though).

Please remember to put in the correct keyword (MIX37) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh! Get out there and PLAY!

The supplies you'll need are:

1. Pens or pencils of your choice. It's great to have a thicker and thinner line set of pens (one will work, though). Something metallic - pens, gelly rollers, and metallic pencils work great.

2. A line art image (stamp or digital), or die cuts.

3. A straight edge - see through works best so you can keep your lines straight.

Steps:

1. Begin drawing straight, parallel lines across your piece. Make some thicker (lay down 1-3 lines close together if you don't have thick and thin markers or pencils), some thinner; some closer together, some farther apart.

2. Turn your piece, and begin lines as in #1 at 90 degrees (perpendicular) from the first.

3. Go back and make some metallic lines in both directions. Repeat until you are pleased.

4. Create a project using your newly formed gridiron piece.

BONUS: find a different way to apply this - as a background, on a 3D element, on your sleeping partner's face... HAVE FUN!

Oh, this sounds like fun!!! Gotta do a major housework first because it didn't all get done properly last week. I'm thinking I could combine this with an old TLC which was a faux grid - only I can notch it up a bit by adding more lines as in your description.

This does sound like fun. Straight lines I can do. Will have to think of how to use them.

Sharon, smadson, # is a hashtag. We use to call it a number symbol. This was a great challenge. I had a blast doing it. No football here for the gridiron, just baseball banners that were done with an ink pen and dp that has plaid on the little banners. Here is my card:

Hash tags are something I've used for a long time when working with maps or needing to mark spaces at an equal distance on the land. However, the hashtag now has another, hipper, definition. It is used to denote a subject that can be 'followed' in an online discussion like Twitter. Facebook has recently started allowing hashtags so you can search the term and find out what others are saying about a particular event, item, or subject.

If I said, #hycct, then you could click on it, and find all the references and posts about it, in a particular format (e.g. twitter, facebook). It's a fun thing that people often get carried away with, creating search terms that lead only to one posting, their own! Hee hee!!

I am thrilled, and humbled, to see how happy you all are with my little challenge. It's closely related to zentangling, doodling, etc. I find it quite relaxing. Enjoy!

Thank you both, Marilynn and Ky for your explanations. And I have just recently discovered Zentangle, too!

Default Emotions mix37

Hi everyone, please bear with me as this is my first time joining a challenge here. My friends mekofosho andSuzy800 are trying their best to help me too, so don't blame them if I mess up ( although I think I already threw them under the bus by mentioning their names, lol ) I can honestly say they are trying hard to teach an old dog a new trick by getting me on here. Here's my first submission to the Mixability Challenge. It's also been a while since I've stuck my head into SCS and it's good to be back! I've been getting some gentle nudges from a couple of my SCS friends to get in here and play in this particular challenge and then a couple of my Mixed Media friends challenged me and here I am!! (eyeing Sandee and Tamiko)

Here's my card: Thank So Much

I'm late to the party with a busy weekend coupled with allergies/fall cold, but I had fun using the technique on a one layer card. I added pencil shading and blinged it up for the HYCCT Challenge. Great to see some new players!
