VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE:HERE Happy Mix-ABILITY day. I am so super excited about my challenge for you today.
First I want to say a huge THANK YOU to SCS. It was 10 years ago today that I joined Splitcoast. All the wonderful members of this community have helped me to be the artist that I am today!!
About 2 months ago I found THIS VIDEO. I know you all have those plastic bags stored or laying around your house. I hope you have an iron. I took a bag and folded it and ironed it just like the video said to do. I ironed my bag between two pieces of typing paper. When it was all melted together and then cooled. I ran it through my cuttlebug. Oh my, that was so much fun. Then I painted it with black, white, gold and copper acrylic paint.
I hope you will give this challenge a try. Remember, for your project to truly qualify as mixed media, you need to use at least 2 different types of art media. You can click HERE for a list of supplies you could choose from. If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome! We want you to learn and enjoy!
Please remember to put in the correct keyword (MIX184) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh!
Oh, MariLynn, this looks so super fun! I'm especially excited to use my Barnes & Noble bags I have been saving for this day. I love the recent pictures and patterns they have from old classic books. I know the woman in the video cut off the graphics portion, but I want to try to save mine. Hmmmm.....

Thank you, MariLynn, that was a barrel of fun! And, the results were awesome with the B&N bag, I'm happy to say. I will definitely give this another try, and I look forward to collecting more bags from Barnes & Noble and other places that might have interesting graphics printed. Also, the image imprinted on the brown bag during the heating process, so I may have another project coming in the future...

Posting a Barnes & Noble bag, this one is Wizard of Oz with Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet on reverse.
I will remove if it is too big, I don't know how to do a thumbnail.

This would be so cool if you could add red glitter to the shoes.
Maybe you need to make this bag into a mixed media canvas.

You said something about liking both sides of your bag. I wonder what would happen if you cut the bag in half and placed a plain bag with it to get the dimension. That way you could save both graphics.
Mixed media is another "out of my comfort zone" type of challenge but I am trying to attempt what 4 months ago I considered Impossible and continue to grow in this artform.

MariLynn, I have been pondering that, because it hurts to think I am "wasting" that other side, thank you!

I suspect I ironed my bag at too high a heat - it melted too much and stuck to the paper. I'll look for another bag and try again - but since we have to pay for plastic bags here, most of mine are heavy-duty ones that I expect to last for years. I have tried ;-).
Sabrina - My first 3 attempts were a gooey mess too even though the iron was on the absolute lowest setting. It helped when I put my pressing cloth over the parchment " "sandwich" - it helped diffuse the heat better.
