Hi I've searched and searched, and I found where people sort their colors by the ROY G BIV thingy, but what about the DP that has multiple colors in it.. How do you decide WHICH color it should go under?? I have been sorting my 12 x 12 paper in color groups / holidays / certain occassions.. but I'm stuck on that!!!
Example...
Afternoon Tea (DP) === has these colors..Chocolate Chip, Groovy Guava, Soft Sky, Wild Wasabi
Where would you put it? flowers? or by color?? or what.. I'm am so CORNFUSED AGAIN!! *sigh*
I keep my current SU DSP in Cropper Hopper Vertical Paper Pouches, I'm also able to keep all the scraps with the full sheets without fear of losing or bending them (some of them are in the Cropper Hopper Vertical Paper Holders and some aren't). I have attached a business card holder to each pouch that lists the name of the DSP and coordinating Cardstock colors (and if it's in a Mini I add info that too). This allows me to easily and quickly pull current DSP (for class projects) and know exactly which colors match! Once it retires, I just move the folder (or if I don't have alot left, I move what's left to a Paper File) to my "retired" section to use on personal projects. And I'm able to move (or remove) the info card and replace when needed.
I made a color copy of the color families from page 3 of the IBC. Then I wrote by each color what DSP I have that has that color in it. So if I want to use Old Olive for example, I can see what packs of DSP has that color in it.
I cant seem to sort this paper.. I have written on a piece of paper what colors it goes with.. but then I cant decide.. oh should I put it with Choc Chip or Tempt Turquoise..
Or do I put them in Alpha order of the name of the paper .. decisions decisions
(I tried Lydia your way but the whatever I have just kicked in and they are now just sitting on my table with no slot to go in I can hear the paper saying put me away put me away)
I do too
I just do not know what color group to put them with
I tried Lydia's suggestion but then I second guess myself
Guess it's the Virgo in me wanting it absolutely perfect
Tho I don't know WHOSE perfect lol
I leave them in their package as well. I write the colors associated with each pack of paper on the back of the cardboard insert. When I need a color match, I tend to go through my packs and take a look at the colors in them and just pull out those that have a match.
I leave the DSPs in the original assortment. My regular cardstock is sorted into page protectors. On each page protector is a label with check boxes for DSPs, ribbon, etc. When I pick a color for a project, it's easy to check the label to see if I have a DSP for it. Then I go to Cat's inventory as mentioned above and see exactly which collection the DSP is in.

I leave them in the original assortments too. I'd go nuts trying to sort them any other way! I also put all Halloween, Christmas, etc collections together in scrapbook page protectors. I go by eye when I want to match colors.

Yes this is how I do it too (for the most part).. the keeping them together & by eye.. but without having a list how do you store them? by Alpha of the name of the Pack.. just shoving them into a slot of my paper storage is not what I want to do..
I store them in a couple of Sterlite drawers and the holiday collections upright on a shelf. Nothing fancy. I don't have very much patterned paper so it's fairly simple to keep track of.
I have just started buying SU DSP. My SU cardstock is together by family, but I have all the DSP in a seperate paper holder. This way I can flip through them to see if anything coordinates or catches my eye. My biggest problem is that I can't cut the paper! Some of them are so cute but I can't just waste them on any card. I really like the idea of labling the pack with the coordinating colors, I have forgotten and gone back to the catalog many times. I like sorting by families because the colors remind me of seasons, I couldn't make a card with subtle colors for a December birthday I went with more regals. Maybe you could sort by just your DSP by families, and the one you mentioned would be neutrals, but Just Eat Cake would be Brights. Good Luck!!
I use the exact method as Sarah - keep them in their original sets, with their scraps, a label with the matching colors, and I have on paper holder for current vs retired.
I keep mine in the original packaging. I write the colors on the back of the cardboard insert. I then file the packages alphabetically in a couple of 12x12 plastic holders that are divided into sections. I keep a list of the DSPs with the name and the colors that are in each pack. It has worked pretty well, but I'm always interested in hearing what works for others.
I've always been drawn to paper, and this past year I've become much better at actually using what I have, and not just collecting it! I've finally convinced myself that if I use up something I really like, there is bound to be plenty more available that I'll like just as much!
I am going through this as well. Not sure how to store it, sort it...nothing. I have a stack and I swear I forget what I have. I have been thinking of cutting it down to 8 1/2 x 11 and storing in color "groups" but for some reason, I am afraid to cut it down! Still deciding. I like Momma_Hollis' idea of storing it in "seasons" as that is how I think of colors also~ Great idea!
