I have a horrible organization for my stamp sets right now. They are all in the original boxes for SU sets with wood mounts. They are stacked up on a bookshelf by size. This is not effective at all. I do like the wood, I was going to unmount and did so for one set, and decided I didn't like them that way. I hope I can get some good ideas from you all!

These are put in by category.

Here's a quick pic. I love this. Visually, it's very neat. I'd tried just stamping them on a page all over the page with no info, and it got all messy. then I tried writing next to the stamped image and the images and text all blended together.

oh, and I'm doing red ink because I got sick of black and wanted a little color

Sorry the image is sideways
I love this idea, I have just ordered the pockets, i would never of thought of this. Great idea.

I am more overwhelmed by my digital and unmounted stamps. So, I am organizing them first. My SU are just put on shelves or in drawers alphabetically, in their boxes. Have no desire to unmount or break up. then, I plan to put the sets in a binder to view for sentiments and images.

All my SU! is still in their original clamshells, and the clamshells are grouped according to size, but I store mine on a book shelf more like books. I'm not that organized that I've put them in any order but I can see at a glance the set name. I've reduced my collection down to about 60 sets, and I can better recall what I own now. I love my wood mounted stamps and wouldn't change that.

Hope you find a solution that works for you.

instead of stamping all of the images I go to the online catalog and save the image of the set of stamps. While right now I only have a digital catalog of my stamps plan is to print them and put them in the $1 4x6 albums you can get from walmart. Some of the sets I have are retired and not on the site but I was able to get index prints from splitcoaststampers!

Thanks for the great ideas. I am hoping to get some organizing done this week - spring break.

I'm on vacation, so I am trying to do this by memory, but mine are (as best as my feeble mind remembers...) I know I am missing some...when I get home tomorrow, I will look at my binder and see what I am missing!

I also sort my patterned paper (that is Holiday or Seasonal) into Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter, with separate containers for Halloween and Christmas since I have alot of them.

OK...home from vacation ...here's my list of categories...

Alphabets
Animals
Backgrounds
Beach
Birthday (Sentiments / Images)
Celebrations
Holidays (Spring / Summer / Fall / Winter / Halloween / Christmas)
Home
Labels
Love / Wedding
Music
Nature
People
Seasons (Spring / Summer / Fall / Winter)
Sentiments
Shapes
Sports

I feel your pain. LOL Seriously, I'm in the same boat as many of you. I have well over 500 sets of Stampin Up stamps, plus a ton of JustRite and CTMH. I can't bear to break up any of the sets. My solution isn't a good one, but it does work for me. I keep all my wooden stamp sets together and put them in Iris containers. Each Iris container will hold around 8 or so sets. I have 72 containers! Each Iris container is marked with a number, such as "C 12" which stands for "Clear #12". Since I have a variety of colors of the Iris containers, if I need something from "G 22" it is easy to grab that off the shelf, as green stands out. Plus they are stacked in numerical order. I have an Excel spreadsheet which lists the name of the stamp set, the number of stamps in the set, and the number of the Iris box it is in. So, if I want to use 'Darling Dragons', I look it up on the spreadsheet, and it immediately tells me which Iris container to get it from. I have the spreadsheet sorted in different ways. One is sorted alphabetically, and another is sorted by container, so if I want to, I can see what stamps are in a certain container. I have also recently started categorizing the stamps and putting similar sets in the same container. Sets such as Christmas, Children, Autumn, Halloween, Birthday, Sentiments, etc. I bought some wire shelving [cubes] at Target and put together a huge wall unit which holds about 66 Iris boxes. I don't have a stamped index sheet in a container, although that would be kind of neat. I do have every Stampin Up catalog, and thumb through those periodically. If I see a cool set of stamps I look to see if I have it, and then pull it out to make a project. {The reason I have so many stamp sets is because - apparently, I am OCD!}
