Upright stamp storage using bins from the container store - who posted it?

A few months back someone posted their new method of stamp storage, using bins from the Container Store. Whoever you were, you were using narrow ones for Nesties and wider containers for stamps and I think some sort of envelope thing. You posted pictures of it.

I am revamping my storage and would like another look at your system.

Thanks, whoever you are, and I hope you see this.

Are you talking about Chris Simon?

She's the one who inspired me to do what I'm doing. :)

No, this isn't the one I was thinking of, although it's very nifty and I'll bookmark it for further study, Diane. Thanks! :-)

This poster had pics of her bins and envelopes right on the post. All I remember is that the bins were clear containers from the Container Store, and I found those, but I think there were envelopes involved, and they weren't the Tim Holtz ones. I think they were bigger. And she had used a narrower clear container for her Nesties sets.

Is this it? (see post #40)

This link is info provided by the same person as above but has more photos for what you may be looking for.

This is kind of it. The containers are the same, but she also had a narrow bin for Nesties,

Maybe I dreamt this post up! Thank you, Rosie, for finding this.

Your description sounded really interesting so I did some searching and found this. Is this what you are looking for?

Exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks Izzie!

As soon as I saw the name of the poster, I knew it was the one I was looking for!

Very helpful! I am in the middle of a big revamp....

Good job, izzie! Rachelrose, I'm glad you've now found what you've been looking for.

I'm honoured that someone liked my idea which was a jumping point based on someone else's prior idea :-)

Here's my system - with my own tweaks (pardon the messy worktable!):

As you can see, my stamps are still lying on their sides and not upright. I have the bin shown by Leslie in her post, but found I liked being able to see more of the page protectors and their contents. Right now I have the space for this arrangement. I'm sure in future I'll find I will want to switch to the larger bins and place the pp's upright since I have only been at this for a year and my stamp collection will certainly continue to grow!

I love it! I'm going to tweak my version and go with the paper inserts with the stamps stamped on them. I do need bigger page protectors that hold more than one sheet of paper. That's really the only thing I didn't like about my system. It is a tight fit to slide the sheets in and out.

Rachelrose, I'm actually drooling over the ink pad holder I see in the background. I built one out of foam board but I want a "real" one like yours. I'm hoping to have a friend build me one in the Spring.

My only question is whether my polymers are okay up against the paper. I have called Hero Arts and they are going to get back to me. I will post what I find out here. I think the rubber stamps can be up against paper with no problem, but the polymers concern me a bit.

That storage unit it from Organize More. I have two - one for Distress Ink and one for other inks. And I am running out of space already! If someone can make what you need, it would be a lot cheaper.

Rachelrose 02-21-2013 12:44 PM

Here's what I found out so far: I called Hero Arts and they have not gotten back to me. I called Inkadinkadoo (EK Success) and described my system to a woman who said they'd never tested whether it was bad to have the stamps up against paper, but she doubted it was. Then I found a YouTube video of someone using a case that was 10 X 7 or so and very thin, and you were supposed to place your clear stamps on one side, ink and them up and close the case in order to make an index and then that's how you stored them. I can't find out where she got these cases.

I am hoping to hear from Hero Arts tomorrow. I can't think of anyone else to call. If someone else can, let me know.

If it turns out that having the paper index is not a good idea right up against the clear stamps, I think I will order some thin acetate sheets to put on top of the clears before I slide them into the PP. That should ensure they are safe. But it will be a bit of a hassle, so I hope using archival PP's and acid free paper is enough.

Rachelrose 02-21-2013 12:59 PM

Called Blockheads. They said they have some clears stored similarly and have had no problems so far.

I'm really trying to do due diligence here.

lharnish 02-22-2013 04:58 AM

Thanks for the updates :-)

Rachelrose 02-23-2013 09:37 AM

I'm feeling pretty okay about the paper against the stamps at this point. I remembered I had this bookmarked:

Maple Street Menagerie: Clear stamp storage

And I went back and looked and read carefully and it does appear that this system has paper right up against clears. If I'm reading the blogger's description correctly.

Anyway, all done except for some labeling! Except that now I have to decide whether to unmount my wood mounts, of which I don't have very many but have enough to be a storage problem.
