Default My Card Stock Ring Sampler

I posted about this in my thread about my Distress Ink sampler, but I thought it might be good to give it its own thread in case people missed it and are interested:

cardstock-samplersm.jpg

I thought this might be useful to do, but it has completely exceeded my expectations. Having all my CS colors right at my fingertips, so that I can just hold colors against each other, is so useful. I love this thing! And so easy to do. I am not completely done, I still have a bit more to do, and then I am going to arrange it by color families. But I figured I'd post it anyway.

(I'm sure others have done this already. But for those who haven't, here it is.)

I know I already posted this to my other thread, but I spent the day working in my studio, and having the sampler was such an unbelievably great tool. Every time I started to turn around to look through my paper files (which was constantly), I remembered I could just pick this little thing up instead. So I'm feeling enthusiastic and wanted to share!

Love this Rachel! Did you use the SU postage stamp punch for this?

I did. I'd forgotten all about it when I did my Distress Ink sampler, and used a small Nestie, which took a lot more time, cranking it through over and over. Once I remembered the punch, this sampler went very fast.

But it wouldn't have your card stock colors, Lyndie! I don't have all the SU colors, and I also order from PTI and Gina K. So these are the colors I have in my stash.

It's so easy to make, truly. The rings are cheap. I went whole-hog and ordered nice tags and typed up labels, but you make your own tags with a punch, and write the names on. The whole thing took me probably an hour and a half to do over a few days, even with all my fussing.

If you start one, and get even partway done, you'll see what I mean about how useful it is and you'll want to finish it.

This looks like a great idea!
Where did you buy the white tags? What size are they? And how large is the SU postage stamp punch?

Thanks!!

I bought the tags on Etsy. Here's one vendor that has some, just to give you a picture of what I bought (I bought a whole bunch of them, just to have.):

NEW ITEM White 2 3/4 x 1 3/8 Inch Shipping Tags 20pcs by SupplyOwl

You can search on "white shipping tags" on Etsy or on the internet in general and they'll come up all over the place. I wanted ones with the reinforced hole. I did my Distress Ink Sampler with different tags:

100 Medium White Scalloped Tags Classic Blank 2 by WhenISayWhen

And it was fine. The 2 inch ring was a tiny bit thick for the holes with these tags, but I just took a pencil and twirled it in the holes to ream them out a bit.

I got the rings from Staples (I'm sure any office supply place has them):

StaplesŪ Loose-Leaf Rings, 2" Size, Silver | StaplesŪ

I originally bought both 1 and 2 inch rings. The 2 inch rings were better for the samplers. The 1 inch was too small. You want to have enough room and big enough holes in the tags that you can shift them around easily.

The punch is just the SU postage stamp punch (pg. 182 in the big catalog). It's 1 1/8 inch square, approx. I did the Distress Ink Sampler using a small square Nestie, cranking it through over and over. Then, when I started the card stock sampler I realized that, duh, I had a punch. Way quicker. But totally do-able with a Nestie. Or any punch, as long as it fit on the tag and left you room to write the name of the color in.

I have several sample rings for inks, markers, Stickles and card stock. I saw where someone used a necklace stand to hang all their sample rings on. Thought that was a clever organizing idea I may use.

That is a terrific idea. I was starting to think of how I might stores these things, other than having them sitting on my worktable.

Yes, inks (other than Distress, which is done) are next. I am starting to collect so many kinds (Versafine, Chalk Inks, Adirondack dye inks, Shadow Inks) that it would be a big help if I could easily flip through samples.

I love your idea! How did you do the distress ink sampler?

I have all my Gina K cardstock colors on a ring and you are right, it is really helpful when crafting!

You can buy cardstock samples nicely done on EBay. Especially for SU cardstock colors. I have bought several storage system labels from EBay before. It's nice, because it's usually a Demo SAHM who wants to make a little cash on the side and saves me time and energy!
