The P-touch by Brother is what I have and I love it! You can get it at all of the big box retailers such as Wal-mart, Target, etc. We bought one for MIL last year at Sam's Club which came with extra tape refills. Be careful because labeling is addictive!
My daughter has the P-touch as well. I love it. It has a qwerty key pad which is nice. The refills are cheap too.

There seem to be several models - which one do you all use? They look really good & I will probably get one. So wanting to get busy & organize things here.
I have a Dymo LetraTag. IT is big and made to sit out on the desk. the buttons are nice and big. I went with the one with the biggest buttons as I figured it would help me hit the right key the first time. Also has some cool extra functions.. I think I got mine for $30 at Walmart.
I have a p-touch that that uses the M tape. The tape seems expensive for the length. Also it has about an inch before and after each printing. Drives me crazy that so much tape is being wasted. The M tape I haven't seen at Walmart, but I do see they carry the Dyno.
When I bought tape for my daughter-in-law, the Dyno was a few dollars cheaper. I need to compare length of the two as it seems the Dyno is much more.
I would definately check refill tape prices and length of the tape. Also, anybody else's p-touch leave so much tape before and after the printing?

You are all so good with your info and I really appreciate it.
ScrappinMoments... thanks for pointing out about the refill tapes - I forgot about checking that part. Now, guess I have my work cut out for me checking them out and making a decision.
Anyone else have any thoughts to throw my way about them?
The M type refill from what I'm reading is about 28 feet long and they cost around 10 per refill. So that isn't bad. What drives me crazy is the length of blank tape it has before and after. Its about an inch on each end. That's a lot of waste!

I have the same problem, and it drives me crazy, too! I have just recently purchased my machine, so I figured that I just hadn't yet found what adjustment I needed to make in order for the machine to stop spitting out so much waste. Is there a way around this, or is this the way the company makes money, by selling more tape?
I have a Dymo LetraTag from Wal-Mart and love it!! It was around $25 when I got it 2 or 3 years ago. The refills are around $7 for a 2 pack of white paper or a 1 pack of clear or white plastic.

I used one at last job and I thought you could change that. I don't remember how but it seems like there is a way to to that. Seems like if it is on center it does it on both ends but if its on right/left justify it only has one side with the waste. I never did change it but one gal in our office always did.
Heading to Staples on Friday so will check out the ones you have suggested. Did look in my Walmart, yesterday but they ony had one Dymo and it wasn't what I have in mind. I have a feeling the Brother P-Touch is going to come home with me -lol.
On some of the p-touch machines you can specify tape length. You still have some waste on one end, but it's eliminated on the other end. You can specify 1, 2, 3 or 4 spaces. On the one here at work _PT-330), there's a function called Tape -- you have to use the code key to access it. When you get to that function it will say feed and have 4 # below it; just press the key (on our's it's the T) to select how many spaces you want. You will still have a long piece at the beginning of the label -- it will have a couple of dots on the tape to show you where to cut it to match the other end. Hope this helps.

Make sure you get one that has clear tape besides the white tape. I use the clear tape just as much as the white. My labeller is one of the most used items in my craft room and house...

Mine is a PT-1280. I thought the refills were pretty pricy. The machine was on closeout at Staples...they didn't have any refills or I would not have bought it.
I found them on ebay about 1/2 the price.
