Default How do you store your Prismacolor pencils?

I love my Prismacolor pencils and have the set of 120, but using the tin they come in is such a pain! I can never get the plastic thingie they come in to line up right. Does anyone have a clever idea for Prismacolor pencil storage they can share?

Thanks! Merry Christmas!

Here's what I've done with mine, I printed out the page that has the SU! color equvalents and I arranged the first 48 pencils to coordinate with the list.

Then I colored the coordinating color on that page, so I can see right away what color I need. Sometimes, the color you need doesn't automatically come to mind. For instance, really rust makes a great color for a tree trunk, better than the browns.

The rest of the pencils I keep arranged according to the color families. Ijust spread the plastic trays out in front of me when I'm coloring, and that way I can see what I need at a glance.

Happy coloring!

I'm just starting to think about buying colored pencils. I am assuming that you did not buy this set from SU, but at a craft or art store.?

Do you just use a regular cheap little pencil sharpener, or are some better than others?

I had seen a thread about the twinkling watercolor pencils. Does anyone know where to get those?

Hi Colleen-
Would you post/share a copy of the file or info listing the SU color and corresponding Prismacolor? Your solution is an excellent one! Thanks.

I use the Crayola box of fifty to color in my images because my Prismas were all broken leaded when I went to sharpen them...I store them in a plastic case that I got al Wal mart in teh school supplies section....they blend as well as the Prismas for less than eight bucks!!!!

My set of 120 PrismaColors came in a lovely flocked box, but I bought the additional colours, plus I have about 80 other artist-quality pencil crayons (Stabilo Softcolor, Faber-Castell Polycromes, Conte a Paris, plus the blender pencils and extra white pencils for blending) . . . so I bought a Rubber Maid tub for all of them. Time for a larger one though, because each time I visit the artist supply store, I come home with more colours.

I just love colour. It would be so sad to limit myself to the 48 SU colours.

I agree with Coletta about storing the 120 Prismacolors in the original tin is a pain. What works for me is the KVISSLE Letter tray from Ikea, it has four pull out shelves that fit the Prismacolor trays wonderfully. Each pull-out shelf has a cork liner so the trays don't slide around. I set them on each shelf so that I can easily read the color name. There's a couple inches left over on the side that I put my other supplies on. The Letter tray fits really well inside the Ikea Expedit cube storage.

This thread lists the prismacolor matches for the current SU colors. Open the PDF in the first post.
Prismacolor Pencil matches to the NEW SU! colors by fionna51 at Splitcoaststampers
It will allow you to color in the square with the appropriate colors.

I am also attaching a photo of all of my coloring media, prismacolors included. They are in bins by color groupings. I don't always use the SU equivalent chart...sometimes I just grab and color. If I really need the match, I will mark the pencil with the equivalent SU color.

ETA...Left to right: .05 pigma pens, SU markers, Distress markers, Inktense pencils, Watercolor pencils, Watercolor crayons, Prismacolors and Verithin pencils

I bought a mesh container several years ago at Target that looks something like this:

Silver Mesh Jumbo Pencil Cup | | OCM.com

but is a little taller and wider. It holds about 160 pencils upright & comfortably. If I over stuff it, then the sharp points tend to jab me when I try to pick out a pencil. I arrange them in the mesh container in loose color groups. I keep it in a small 5"x9"x6" polka-dot plastic photo holder-type box. It holds the container of pencils along with one of the Gina K type gamsol dispensers. I keep all my blending stumps, tortillions, an artists' sandpaper paddle, my Prismacolor and acrylic erasers and pencil sharpener in one of the old Stampin Up cases for wood stamps which fits sideways in the box too. I keep the box on a bookcase shelf and it is so easy to take it to my workspace when I want to color. When I am done, I just put everything back in the box and on the shelf. Makes clean up so easy and keeps all my colored pencil equipment organized & in one place. I would post a picture of the box when full, but I don't have a digital camera and it isn't something that would with my printer/scanner.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the lid won't fit on top of the box with the pencil container it it, so I use the lid on the bottom as extra support since the thing is a bit heavy,

I'll try to take a picture later today, but I have a small box about 5" width and 4.5" high (13cm x 11.5cm for those of you lucky enough to live in a country that uses the metric system!). It holds 9 toliet paper rolls perfectly. Yup. My pencils are kept in toliet paper rolls. I have them divided into grays, browns, reds, purples, pinks, blues, greens, orange & yellow, and misc (white, black, silver, gold, a few others).

Ugly as sin, but it works perfectly! And easy to bring with me if I'm heading to a friend's house.

I love these:

They store and travel so well.

Default Photo of Kvissle Letter tray for Prismacolor pencil storage

https://plus.google.com/photos/yourp...12950764438115

I'm not sure this photo will show up, just signed up yesterday on this wonderful forum after lurking for a long time. I'm not sure how to put it with the post I made yesterday about how I store my Prismacolor pencils using the Kvissle letter tray from Ikea. It fits perfectly inside the Expedit storage cube as well.

Diane,

Thank you for making this list. Very nice of you to share.

Also, what do you think of the Inktense pencils? I read somewhere you could use these with Gamsol also, and I have much better success that way than with water. Probably not enough practice yet.

The Inktense pencils can be used with Gamsol, but the color isn't nearly as intense as when blended with water. It works though - those pencils are so versatile!

I just store mine in an old (smaller, oval) ice cream container. I can see them all, and they are easy to access.
