Craft Area Suggestions

Hi,

I'm in need of a way to "cover up" this area..and preferably something that my 9 month old cannot pull down. The area is about 48" wide and 36" tall.

Any ideas??

That was one of our thoughts..we are renters and wanted to try to not have to drill any holes. This particular area is actually to put a TV in..

What about tension based baby gates? No drilling and it looks like the walls of that niche would support it.

You could use inexpensive tension curtain rods. Sew up some fabric top and bottom and "hide the space. The baby probably would not want what she couldn't see!

I agree with the suggestion of tension baby gates. Tension curtain rods will not deter a toddler. I have a 4yr old neice and 5yr old nephew. They have pulled down thier share of curtains (sheers on tension rods) as toddlers and simply hiding something behind a barrier only seems to increase the curiosity of a child regardless of age.

Since closet type doors aren't an option, I'd go with the baby gate too. We got a tension one in late 2007 when our older granddaughter was a year old and there was no way she could move it or pull it down.

A baby gate is a good idea, that deterred ours when they were little from all kinds of things and came in handy when our dog was just a puppy!!

If you wanted to hide it from view, you could have a piece of plywood cut the same size as the framing around the space. Then attach some really good velcro strips around it, so that it's harder for a toddler to pull off. The outer part could easily be disposed of when you're ready to move, and the velcro attached to the frame would come off and clean up with some Goo Gone.

We covered an entertainment center with clear plexiglass this way when our children were very little. It was easy to remove when they got older and understood they couldn't touch what was inside!
