Default Best bookshelves- not IKEA

I'm doing a mini renovation of my studio over the next two weeks. Hubby and I will be painting next week and I'm looking to get some new storage in. I have a set of cubes that I bought a few years back but I'm thinking of using bookshelves instead.

Has anyone purchased STURDY wooden bookshelves from Target/Walmart? Could you recommend the name/brand that you used?

I don't have an Ikea nearby so that's not an option. Thanks so much!

I have these shelves from Target:
http://www.target.com/Madison-Loop-L...ntique%20White

They also come in black and walnut. They are very sturdy. I even took out the second-to-bottom shelf in order to be able to put the 12x12 Cropper Hopper Paper holders on the bottom shelf and they're still sturdy. They're easy to put together too, I did it myself pretty quickly.

I have 2 of these shelves, then the desk that is in the same style (which is also quite sturdy - Hubby even sat on it!), but I bought it in black, and i have the white chair. The one thing I'll warn you about is that these are all "distressed"/"antiqued" as in the paint is not on evenly - it has streaks pulled off. Personally, I love the look but I did read a lot of mad peoples comments who did not expect it, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

The other thing is these are not available in the store. I just waited until it had free shipping and was 15% off (like they are now) and bought them. I love them and would totally buy them again!

Hope that helps!

How does one live without an IKEA? I noticed the other day there were several efficiency style storage shelves/book shelves at Wal Mart but since I'd just IKEA'd our office/studio I didn't look at the name. You're more likely going to find this in September during the college dorm make over season. I can tell you though it is worth a trip to Wal-Mart. There were several I would have considered (I was price checking that day to make myself feel better about my IKEA choices and final price tag I spent.)

try home depot/lowe's. we have some mill's pride. built very well.
i also would suggest shelves spaced only as much as you needd. as any other space is wasted space. and the depth of the shelves-not to deep or items get pushed back

Thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions! I really appreciate it. I hope to get some time to go to Target & Walmart this weekend to see them in person.
