Default Bare rubber stamp-no foam, is that ok for a clear image?

I am seriously "needing" to unmount all my wood mount stamps (tons of them) for more storage space in "my room". I use 4 large rubbermaid boxes, and two "rolling drawer carts" from office Depot and it just has to be simpler!

Do you have to put the foam back on the rubber once unmounted? Just want to make it simple if I can. Would the "no foam" distort my images as they are stamped? Read a bunch of threads, and didn't seem to find this specific one.

Am going to do the DVD case route, and combine my "like" images together. As many of you have said-you have trouble remembering which sentiment was in what SU set. I love my stamps, and don't utilize what I have for the " I can't find it" reason. So looking forward to doing my holiday cards with my new found organization. Any other suggestions would be wonderful!

I think whether you put foam on unmounted rubber stamps or leave them bare seems to be a personal preference, and also according to your stamping technique - how firmly you press, etc.

I have bought bare rubber stamps and just put double stick tape on my acrylic block and they stamped very well. I've been reading lately that people coat the back of the bare rubber with Tombow Mono-Multi and let it dry. Then it will adhere to your case, and to the acrylic block. I haven't tried this yet.

It helps with getting a clear image if you have a stamping mat underneath when you stamp.

Also, I have a Misti now, and if there is a space that didn't stamp too well, you can re-ink and stamp over in exactly the same place until you are satisfied with your image.

No, bare rubber doesn't really distort...unless you might have a really super-skinny long piece. But that can be a good thing too.

As for storage, another option is some REMOVABLE poster tape by Scotch...place it on the back of your rubber...and when you put it in the dvd case, the tape then sticks to the case. Put Tack n Peel on your acrylic block (or on your MISTI door). The TnP stays there and is the sticky you need for stamping. The poster tape stays on the case and you place your cleaned rubber back on that spot for storage.

All of my rubber is bare - no foam, no glue. I recently made the switch from having 2-way glue on the back to going totally bare, as I couldn't find a glue that I was happy with over the long term (my beloved Sailor glue was apparently discontinued). I have TnP on cling vinyl so that I can take it off of my MISTI when I'm using photopolymer stamps. If you're concerned about getting a good impression, you could try what others do - put a piece of Fun Foam or a magazine under your paper when you stamp so there's a little "give". Also try out different levels of pressure to see how hard you do/don't need to press to get the look you're going for...

thank you everyone for the suggestions. Yippee! Wasn't looking forward to "custom" cutting all that foam, or the cost. I actually tried some roller
removable adhesive tonight on the bare rubber back and it works great!

I've heard some use Aleene's Tack It Over and Over glue.

As to padding- Darice makes a really nice (and cheap) red pad for stamping. It runs from about $4 up depending on where you buy it. I love the way it improves the images especially on certain stamps that are stubborn about stamping completely.

I hate all the glues, so I'll never vote for any of 'em, but I will second the idea of the Darice foam pad. I had one before our move (and The Great Purge) and used it all the time!

And I'll second Sue on the glues. Some people say they like them, but I have never had any luck with them, especially the Tack it Over and Over.

And that Darice pad is the greatest...better than any other option. And they're cheap! Of course if you have totally converted to the MISTI...well, it has its own foam pad.
