Default Advice needed...

I have a pretty good sized craft room, and right now I have an assortment of wood toned bookcases and desks, and lots of iris carts (clear storage containers). I have been working at getting this room organized, and can't decide on a color scheme for the furnishings. I have light yellow walls and pretty pink/yellow/lime green valances that I made for the five windows.
I did get one really nice piece for storage, it is actually a kitchen island, but I want to use it for my die cutting area. It is classic black with a butcher block top. It reminds me of a Pottery Barn look. I can't decide if I should try to make the rest of my furniture black, or if I should leave them wood tones, or if I should go with white furniture, and just have the one piece in the contrasting black. And what color for the countertops too. I have a big desk, a sewing desk, a work table and two other tables. Also a couple of bookcases. It is kind of a mish mash. So....any suggestions?

Being the kind of person who likes a light, bright look, I would be painting it all white. Everything except maybe your nice black piece. Then it would all be coordinating. I would make use of the pink, yellow and lime colors for storage baskets or boxes, panels in the front of the iris drawers, etc. Your colors sound pretty!

I have to agree with Diane. I am updating my craft space when we move, and although there will be a big wooden desk that is my husband's against one wall, all of my furniture will be white. I'm doing navy accents. Post pics when it's done!

The trend in kitchens is to have cabinets in one color scheme and an island in a contrasting one. So I think having white bookcases contrasting with your black/butcher-block island would be great! Coordinating your storage containers and drawer fronts with a couple of the curtain colors and a few accents in black would be really sharp and tie everything together. For your countertops, maybe a light neutral similar to the tone of the butcher block would be nice.

I am making a craft room now and all the furniture is white. I have pink walls, and black accents. Since you have lovely curtains, I would do as the others suggested an pick colors from them as accents colors. 5 windows! You are so lucky. I can imagine the light!

when I finally get my own space, I'm spray painting all the furniture so it will match. Artmart has some wonderful spray paints with a rainbow of color choices.

My small craft space is all white - looks nice and clean (when it is - lol!) and then I can change the accent colour to whatever I like. Sounds like the colours you have are wonderful and would really pop against white furniture.

Diane, I also tend to like bright and light. The panels in the front of the iris drawers is a good idea!

Tiffany, the white with navy sounds really sharp. I have been looking at stamp room pictures all day, I will post some pics when I am done and look forward to yours too.

Becky, Yes I love how they do kitchens with the two different colors of cabinets. And the idea of a neutral for the countertops is good. I just have such a mish mash of items. A lot of them are a light wood color, I kind of hate to have to paint everything white, so may just go with white for new items.

Winnie, the windows are a curse and a blessing. They extend across one whole wall, and then one on either side next to that wall. And they go to about a foot from the floor, so its hard to use that space. I have one table on that wall, and some little wood drawers that hold punches on the floor and an iris cart and a CD holder with UM stamps and a trunk with fabric. (used to sew a lot). Guess that sounds like a lot.

Mary Anne, I will have to look at the Artsmart paints, I am not familiar with them.

I have a lot of light wood too. Don't think I'm up for painting an armoire, a table, a file cabinet, a hutch, and chairs. But I'm all about finding ways to work around it and make it as cute as possible.
