Smile Shelving/storage for Iris cases

Hi ladies,

I am looking for shelving ideas for my Iris cases, all 45 of them. Currently, they are stacked 10 high in my craft room but I want to get them off the carpet. They hold my wood mount stamps and can be quite heavy. The Expedit openings are too small. And the Billy bookcase from IKEA is deep enough but I don't want it to be tall, rather prefer back-of-sofa height.

Any ideas? I am a beginner in the do-it-yourself department but will try. Of course, I want it to look great, too.

Thank you for checking this out!

Merry Christmas!!

Dana

Not a dumb question, at all.

They are plastic cases about 2.5-3 inches tall and big enough to hold 12x12 paper and embellishments for projects without bending or damaging the goodies. Great organizing tool for me. Google iris cases and you'll see what I mean.

I saw elfa on sale at the container store so I will probably go that route. Then it will match what is already in the room. The timing couldn't be better, I say!

Merry Christmas!

I also store my wood mount rubber stamps in Iris scrapbook cases... but the ones I have are about 1.5" high and came in a 3 drawer unit with a top that has a molded plastic organizer. Each 1.5" case holds 1 layer of wood mounted stamps perfectly. I had been searching for a solution to my wood mounted stamps (mostly my rare or collectible stamps) for YEARS and I am ecstatic with what I did. I was close to buying the bestcraftorganizer scrapbook organizer, but I could not justify spending over $350 for particle board and plastic. With the Iris carts, i spent less than $100 for 5 units (same price if you buy on sale) and even stacked 5 high, they are pretty sturdy.

I think the units I bought were called: desktop scrapbook organizer or chest (sorry can't remember exactly). The cases were colored in pretty jewel tones- a pink, a purple and a green. I saw them at Michaels, but purchased them at TJ Maxx. At first I wanted clear storage, but now that I have them, I prefer the colors.

Here's what I did to replicate the cart: I noticed that there was a rolling cart being sold by Iris with the 2.5" high cases, and that the frame was very similar to the ones I bought. I also noticed that the units could be stacked on top of one another by pressing in the tabs and popping off the tops and then clicking the two frames together. I found 4 wheels in my stash that fit slots on the underside of the bottom most unit. So basically, I made my own rolling cart. 5 units = 18 covered drawers of stamps. I couldn't be happier (well except if I hadn't kept buying more wood mounted stamps).

I wonder if Iris would sell you the frame of the drawer unit for the 2.5" cases since you already have them. At any rate, it sounds like you found a good storage solution. Maybe this could help another person seeking a wood mount storage solution.
