I have collected about 100 cards and I am looking for all your wonderful ideas on how to organize them for the auction they are going to be sold at for our military base. Any input would be great.
They are cards for all seasons/holidays of the year.

Andi, are they going to be sold individually or as a set? If individually, an open plastic storage container might be nice, and you could insert index dividers labeled with the card types. If they are to be sold as a set, maybe an accordion folder box would be good, also divided and tabbed by type of card. By the way, I LOVE your avatar, and would love to know where you got it. My son is in the USAF, thus the line in my signature. A proud Air Force Mom from NC!

i would make several packs. make it pack "a year in cards"
include
birthdays
mother's day father's day
thanksgiving
christmas/holiday
thinking of you
miss you
etc.
that way each winning bid will have some of everything.
Are the 100+ cards the entire prize or are they being broken up into more auction items?
If all 100+ stay together I would group them by occasions (perhaps use fun organza bags - do they come large enough?) and put all the different groupings into something like a decorated hatbox. Perhaps you could first photograph all the cards and print it onto cardstock and use the printouts to cover box (collage style)?
If the groups are smaller, probably in boxes tied with pretty ribbons. Perhaps abeaded pen? I like Gayla's grouping for this.
Originally it was going to be one auction item. I am going to have to get them all out and look at them and decide. It may make more if I break them out ... hmmm

Ok, here is what I have now. I just sorted and separated cards by type. I had a little of 300 cards from the swaps I hosted and some donations (thanks everyone).
I am doing one set of Christmas cards (25), and 11 sets of 25 misc cards that cover the rest of the holidays, generic, birthday, and patriotic. 5 other patriotic cards will go in a patriotic themed basket someone else has done with polish pottery.
I am going to value the card collections at $75, with a starting bid at $15 or $20 probably (I don't do that part, but that is what we discussed). Now I just need to get or make something to put 25 cards/envies into that will make folks want to bid on all of them! I want a bidding war! I almost think I should do each of the 12 differently, or some kind of variation.

What a great assortment! I agree with your idea of decorating each separately - especially the holiday cards. My BFF gave me an assortment of various adhesives in a shaped wire basket wrapped in clear cellopane and pretty ribbon. That allows the bidders to see the contents (esp. if they are in clear envelopes but I think "mailing" envelopes should be provided too because most folks won't know the clear need extra postage and that might result in a future negative connotation) and the container is part of the prize. I often see pretty baskets at The Dollar Tree as well as other cost-friendly places like Target and Wal-Mart and the craft stores have them too (coupons or perhaps a sale for Easter?)
one suitable for wife,
birthday, anniversary, Valentines, Easter, Christmas, how bout an "I'm sorry, Love you, some other odds and ends a guy may need throught the year??
