I am using a small dress form from Pier 1 to store my loose ribbon. The rest of my ribbon I have it in small plastic shoe boxes I bought at the Container Store.
OHhhhhhhh........... I LOVE this idea. Pay day I'm going to buy one and do that with all my loose ribbon.
I prefer using rain gutters. I started doing so with my second craftroom and am now on my fifth set up. Hubby and I hung three six footers this time and thinking one more will give me room to grow. LOL I am a ribbon junkie! with gutters, you can adjust the length to your available wall space.
Those rain gutters make a great rack for punch storage, too.
Ooh, so many delightful ways to store ribbon! I am wild about the dress form - if I didn't have wood heat (= very dusty house) I would so love to do that! For my ribbons I am now using a Scrapbox Ribbon box...
I actually *won* this box a few weeks ago as the "Fan Friday" pick on the Original Scrapbox's facebook page. I was sooo thrilled.

That's pretty much how I did mine. I bet it's a repeat of someone here, but on the off chance it isn't... Basically, chipboard from the back of paper packs, cut into "bobbins" and stored in old 12x12 paper drawers. The key? DIVIDERS. Saved my sanity like you wouldn't believe.
Thank you so much for sharing! I love your method and just recieved my boxes today Next, get my hands on a spooler! lol
QUOTE=identicaltriplets;18332015]I keep mine in clear boxes on rolls. Super small, easy to see, no creases, holds trims & various widths of ribbon, etc. I have had it this way for YEARS, love it, and haven't had a need to ever change it. Works great for me. You can see complete details here.

Wendy, you are welcome! Enjoy!!! I have had my ribbon like this for 6 years or more!!! It is AMAZING and NO wrinkles or dust! You can store the scraps in the box too. Let me know if you have questions!

Hi I dont know if it's already been said but I use a trouser hanger (wire clothes hanger with 4 removable spokes) for my rolls of ribbon. Any loose ribbon I keep in glass jars.
I now store all my Ribbon in a 17x15 It's tall enough to store my Stampin' up! Ribbon. I like it cause it has two locking tabs. Nothing will get dirty or dusty.
I love your ribbons storage and went ahead and ordered the clear boxes from the Box Depot that you mentioned. Kinda disappointed because the boxes will only hold a length of 3yrds before having to cut and spool up more :( Don't get me wrong...It saves TONS of space I just wish the boxes were larger...oh, and the shipping was CRAZY!

I am a confirmed ribbon addict. It's truly pathetic. Thank God that ribbon is fairly inexpensive! I had to find some way to store my ribbon that didn't cause every spool to collapse the minute I removed one from the drawer, and a system whereby I could SEE what I have (out of sight ~ out of mind).
I used pantry racks that I purchased at Lowe's. They hang on my wall and most of my ribbon spools fit PERFECTLY on these, once I put some cardboard down to keep the spools from falling thru.
I must admit, these photos are almost 18 months old, and they're now bursting at the seams...I need at least one more rack! And this doesn't even include the seasonal ribbon that I have, which I keep in another drawer. [see, I told you I was an addict!]
This method is perfect for me, because with 3 jobs, I just know I won't take the time to unroll spools and put it on a flat cardboard spool. I love the looks of that method, but I know myself (and my time limitations) well enough to know that I'd end up with a bag full of ribbon from M's that never gets used.
I store my ribbon simaliar to Becca's, but use 12x4 peices of cardboard and wrap like colors together then store in a basket. So far it works great! A lady from chruch just gave me a huge sack of lace so now I need another basket!

That is FABULOUS, Patter. I adopted Becca's storage system a couple of years ago, and I really love it, but the ribbon does have a bit of a crease when you get close to the end of the roll. And, I can be a bit lazy (gasp!) and many times I'll get new ribbon and not have the time to go through the process of rewinding it on the cardboard spool, so I just skip it, and now I have a drawer full of ribbon that needs to be re-spooled.
But... because of your post, I just bought one of those ribbon spoolers, and am hoping I can do some kind of hybrid.
I use gutters that you can buy at the Home Depot. I hung pegboard on my wall and drilled holes in the ends of the gutters. You use the peg accessories to clip them into the board.
You can see my entire remodeled craft room on this blog post.
Right now I have most of it hanging on, One of thoseSlack Hangers. I won this at a Scrapping Retreat. I "LOVE" Ribbon.
It's a nice hanger. But I think I want to get something else. Like somePlastic Storage boxes to fit all my ribbon in.
and then use the Slack Hanger for my dh jeans.
Those Plastic Boxes are what I have my ribbon stored in....I used to have them in the smaller ones, (see pic below), but because I have a ribbon addiction, I had to go bigger! LOL! I had a bunch of the larger storage boxes, so I just put a divider down the middle and have 2 colors per box. I have room now to add more....at least until I empty the ribbon I have in the closet!
I will try to post a picture. I have never tried including a photo in my posts, so I hope it turnes out well. I have not finished adding all my ribbon to my organizer (there never seems to be enough hours in the day). I have several small spools in apackage hanging at the top of the organizer that I do not think I am going to take off the spools, there isn't much on each spool.

My favorite is the Hobby Lobby ribbon boxes in the sewing department that cost $7.99 each and hold approx. 16 ribbons. My second favorite box was what I used to use before the HL boxes: a Michaels 12x12 paper storage box. If you want to see my full blog post, check out my blog;)
I am redoing my craft room, and took the plunge with Becca's system. I love it. I had a fair bit of ribbon and everything fits in one three-drawer container that I bought on sale at Micheal's last week. I starting rewinding ribbon as I watched t.v. at night. We drove to Chicago last weekend, and I brought the rest of my ribbon with me in the car and wound it on the cards I had cut while I talked to my husband! Perfect project and everything is done!
I love this system!! Everything is one size, and I can see all of my ribbon without pulling the ribbon boxes out. It also gave me more room for storing other things by freeing up a shelf in my cabinet. Thanks, Becca!
My ribbon is a giant mess right now but I just LOVE that dress form. I'm going to have a look for one bc it would work really well for me since I decided it was a good idea to remove most of my ribbons from the roll (which now I regret of course LOL!)
I have tried several things to store my ribbons and so far none have been successful. Right now each colour is stuffed into Ziploc bags but they take up so much room and I have to pull them all out to find the right colour. I like Becca's method but no where to buy those tools close to me and shipping costs are ridiculous.

Violet - all you need for Becca's system is some matt board or just some fairly thin cardboard, rubberbands, scissors and either a shallow drawer or tray or even a box until you can find the drawers to put them in. Wally world has the drawers if you want to go that route.

I have found that I use mainly solid colors of ribbon. So I sorted my stash and got rid of ribbon I rarely used or didn't really like. I have my ribbon stored in three ways.
First, I have a plastic box found at Walmart for ribbon. It holds 12-16 colors and I put my 1/4" solid colors of grosgrain in it. When I run out of a color, I take the last snip and put it in my purse to pick up a new roll at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
Then I have larger plastic jars of the colors I use the most (pinks, reds, greens, yellows, blues, oranges). These are for larger ribbon pieces or ribbons still on a spool. I also have two jars of patterns that don't fit anywhere else.
Lastly, twelve small plastic jars for the smaller ribbon lengths, sorted by color shades. White, black, red, blue, brown, yellow, orange, gold, silver, green, purple, and pink.
This system works perfectly for me and I can find all the ribbon I need quickly. If I snip a piece of 1/4" grosgrain and don't use it, I put it in the small ribbon jar.
You can view some of what I'm talking about on this blog post:
I had all of my ribbon wound on cardboard and in the little drawers like Becca. But I got tired of ironing ribbon everytime I wanted to use it, so I went back to hanging it on hangers. The hangers hang behind my craft room door and don't take up any usable space in the room or on the counters. No more ironing.
I got this idea from Lauren Meader (the ribbon storage pics are down the page a bit) - I picked up 2 divided drawer organizers from Target, they've got 3 sections, and they are perfect for MOST spools of ribbon. They fit the PTI rolls perfectly - and most of the ones I've gotten from M's. They DON'T hold the larger SU! ones, but I have some of the SU! ribbon storage for those. The drawer organizers can stack on top of each other, so it doesn't take up too much square footage, makes spools easily accessible, and visible... I need more, mind you - but they only had 2 that were in good shape the last time I was there, the other 2 were cracked :(
Good luck!
I love those drawer organizers for ribbon. That's a fabulous idea. TFS.
Great ideals. Love them all. The dress form is just adorable. I might as well share what I have.
I used to thread my ribbon through pieces of cardstock punched with the CM Geo Maker and then clipped like ribbons up together with just a binder clip. It's a do it yourself version of one of the commercial options out there.
As my ribbon collection grew, it just kept on taking up more and more wall space.
So when I re-did my scrap space, the ribbon came off of the wall and into a box. I got a great deal on this Tim Holtz box. I cut some chipboard to size and spent a soccer practices and soccer games wrapping ribbon onto the chip board.
I take most of my ribbon off of the roll, unless there's a lot on the roll. My SU ribbons are still on the roll. For now I have them sitting in a 12x12 SB storage box. I'm going to be looking for some of the drawer dividers next time I'm at Target.

I think I posted this on another thread, but I bought those drawer dividers last year and love them! You can get at least 63 rolls in each container, depending on the size of the spools...
I am too messy and unorganized to stay on top of many of these solutions. I admire the organization - I think rain gutters might work for me. Easy to see, grab, and don't have to put away. Just pull the amount needed and snip.
I currently have SU ribbon keepers but i have run out of them and need more.
