Smile cb embossing with fiskars embossing plates

I have found that using the wizard pad in this order works and gives a nicer deeper emboss. Plate A (CB), fiskars, cardstock, wizard "BLACK" pad, wizard TAN pad, Plate B.

The tan pad is to forgiving and only allows a soft impression where the black pad is a firmer mix of the two and give a deeper impression. Try it out. I also had a friend that has the sizzix black rubber embossing pad and it is the same substance as the Black wizard pad and larger to cover the plate.

I've read through the hundreds (it's thousands now, right?) of posts in the Cuttlebugitis thread, as well as other threads on the boards regarding die-cutting and compatibility between dies and machines.

So, I made up a chart on Cuttlebug Sandwich Stacks based on info I found on the boards, and PMs from users that had tried some unique things.

This list is NOT complete, but I'll add to it and repost if SCSers have additional findings. Hopefully, someone else will find this as useful as I have.

Enjoy!

NOTE: The Cuttlebugs tend to differ in space inside the machine, so be sure to ERR ON THE THIN SIDE when putting new stacks into your machine!

A few changes that I made to the Stacking list:

For regular Brass Stencils I cut up a Coluzzle foam cutting mat.
Plate A, Plate B, Coluzzle foam, Paper, Stencil, Plate C.
It gave a great impression.

Sizzlits 12" Decorative Strips
I used the 13" Sizzix Extender Spacer Platform, 13" Cutting Mat, Decorative Strips Die, Paper, and the other 13" Cutting Mat.
** Note mine is snugg but works great. If to snugg do not use bottom 13" Cutting Mat ... instead use paper shims.

I use the cuttlebug folders on my Wizard - that is made by Spellbinders so I imagine it would also work their dies on the cuttlebug.

I just ordered a Cuttlebug today, so I'm researching what accessories I may need in order to use the Fiskars texture plates and Sizzlit dies the I already have. I'm so happy that I found this thread!

Thanks for the info!

tina - you bring up a really good point. people should print the list, then include notes [or edit the list] with details on their own machines. because these cuttlebugs are not high-precision each machine may require a little different stack [shims instead of plates, etc.]

this list is really just a GUIDELINE to get people started

doesn't one of the fiskars plate sets come with a pad? i had a set and used it with the fiskars pad a few times and it seemed to work pretty well. the embossing isn't as deep as what you get with the cuttlebug folders, but still nice impressions.

Could one of your plates be warped? It does happen. I turn mine around and over often to prevent warping ( or at least to slow it down).
Which sandwich selection did you just try?

I have not re-visited this thread for a while and did not read all the updates. I want to share an experiment I tried a couple of days ago. If it is a repeat, I apologize.
I wanted to use the Nestabilities for a couple of items and could not locate the C plate in a hurry. I placed one of the embossing folders between the bottom B and the A plates - got a perfect cut.
I don't think this will harm anything - does anyone know?

Hooray for Michael's 50% off - I got an extra set of "B"s.

Smile Cuttlebug Sandwich

I want to use the *recipe* for the brass stencils. However, I can't locate any Coluzzle foam anywhere from the usual stores, Michaels, J.A. or H.L. Does anyone know of a good substitute that could be used with the Coluzzle? Thanks so much.....Phyl

the wizard pad is a thin foam/rubber like pad. i think it's thinner than fun foam, but more pliable? you may be able to use the funfoam for embossing - just remember, start your stack out THIN - you can always add layers to make it fit tighter in the machine if it doesn't work the first time.

k-question for you. where did you see to use the coluzzle foam for brass templates? i don't remember seeing that in this thread [i know it's not on my sandwich chart], but it's been a while since i've read thru EVERY comment

i'm not sure the coluzzle foam would work as it's kinda 'soft' and i'm not sure you'd get the pressure you need to push thru the openings in the brass stencil. but maybe it does work?

sorry - i'm no help. i've not seen the coluzzle foam replacements, but i googled it and there were several online options. hope this helps.

Thanks for this list, I got the cuddlebug for Christmas and have been playing with it but this list will help me a great deal as I have many of the different dies you have listed. I was trying to figure out why some of my embossing was not coming out quite right, I did not realize every machine was a little unique, I will play more and get more familiar with my machine. Thanks for all of your time and effort.

I may have over looked this but...

When I did a CB die in the machine and followed the instructions for the plates, according to manufactor book, the b plate that goes above the cardstock became etched with the die outline. Is this supposed to happen? I haven't used my CB for any dies since then and don't want the plates all scratched up so how do I do it so that they don't get etched.

Default This is normal

It is normal for the B plate to show the outline of the die. It doesn't affect the outcome until it gets really badly etched. My plates usually break before then. Hope this helps. Have fun with your cuttlebug. I don't think I could make cards without mine and the plates are very inexpensive to replace. I always keep a spare package on hand.

The plates will definitely get the etching/die outline on it. Do not fret. It will takes lots and lots and lots of the CB use before the plates gets so etched that you will be unable to use it. Have fun.

I just make sure that it's the same B plate that keeps getting etched. I also rotate is in both directions to get even wear.

Default Cuttlebug and Nestabilities

I just bought my first set of Nestabilities and want to use it in my Cuttlebug. I printed off the instructions on how to stack the cardstock and A, B & C sheets, but here goes the question I've got. Can you get the die to cut and emboss in one run through the Cuttlebug, or do you have to run it through twice with different sandwiches?

hi Gloria!

you've got to run it through twice - no way around it. once with the hard plates to cut, then the second time with the soft rubber pad to do the embossing.

Does anyone know whether the "nestabilities" dies work in the CB? I was thinking of purchasing them, but wanted to make sure I could use them in my CB without having to purchase another machine. Thanks.
