I had a minor coupon today 20% off, so I went ahead and bought a pair of extra B plates for the Bug. I would hate to be in the middle of a swap and have one break on me! I'm still not happy with the performance of the little creature, but I LOVE the end results.
Well, with machines, you get what you pay for, right? Big Kick's are sturdier, bigger, heavier, and more expensive (although they are coming down in price, too, it seems). The trader is that they're bigger, heavier, and more expensive! LOL
I wanted a small, entry-level die-cut/embossing machine that wouldn't take up much space on my table, was portable (so I can tuck it away on a shelf when it's not in use) and was inexpensive (in case I didn't use it very much). So the Bug was my machine.
If the sad day ever comes that it breaks, and I'm still papercrafting as much as I am now, I will likely buy a Big Kick. But for now, it's the ideal machine for me!
OMG!! Finally got Quickutz and Boss kut to work in my Big Kick. That sandwich file is da bomb. Couldn't have done it without all the work she put into.

Just a note - my experience with the cuttlebug and nestabilities dies: To cut - the "B/C" plate combination did not work well for me - I broke B plates and the dies embedded themselves into the plate. I resolved this by using the standard "B" sandwich then adding a piece or two of chipboard to make the sandwich thicker than the standard "B" but thinner than the "B/C" sandwich outline on the spreadsheet.
I am planning to make the switch from the CB to the Big Kick. I have picked up several packages of B plates for the CB. Will I be using them with the Big Kick or do I need something different?
Thanks very much for the amazing Cuttlebug sandwhich stack chart! What is a black or tan Wizard pad and a cardstock shim? Where can I purchase these?

You'll find info on the Wizard pad in this thread, post 151 and also in the big Cuttlebugitis thread.
A cardboard shim is a piece of chipboard or thin cardboard cut to the same size as the A/B/C plates. You then insert the shim (or multiple shims) as needed to make the stack tighter in the bug. It's experimentation however. Each machine is different, some needs shims, some don't.
Thanks for sharing this information! I have the Fiskars textured plates and haven't used them as much as I would have liked. I am going to play with the sandwich chart and try to use them. I love my cuttlebug and have made some really cute cards using it. I can't to try some more.

Did you put the chipboard between the cardstock and the B plate to protect it? I just got my bug and I want to start buying Nestabilities, but want to make sure they will work. Thanks!
Being COMPLETELY obsessive - I have a question on this fantastic list. I've been using it and it's working well - but it occurred to me that I would have to think less if the order of the "b" and "c" plates were always the same. Notice the Quickutz. All use "a", "b" and "c". But on some the "b" goes on top of the "a" then die/paper, then "c" and on others the "c" goes on the "a", then die'paper, then "b".
I haven't had any luck using mouse pads for brass embossing. I do however have the Sizzix Texturz Starter Kit (STSK) - note: the same as Big Impressions Starter Kit (BISK) in the table. I get fabulous impressions if I use this sandwich:
Plate A, Plate B, Brass Embossing Template, Cardstock, STSK/BISK silicone pad, STSK/BISK hard plate
I have also noticed that happyscrappinscrapbooking has their own pad listed under Cuttlebug machines. If you click on the description it indicates that it works for brass embossing templates. Does anybody know if it is basically a mouse pad?? or something better?
Great chart! Is it possible to cut fun foam with the bug?
ABSOLUTELY. I haven't actually done it yet, but there's no reason why it won't cut the thin foam. Be sure to test carefully - the foam is thicker than paper so you would want to make sure your stack isn't too big to fit through the bug. I might have to do some tests tonite

Kim - I think I know what you mean. I'll look at the stacks and see if they can change. The list started with feedback from many users, and it's probably just the way they stacked them.
HI can you use Bosskuts in the cuttlebug. An Aussie website has them on sale and I would love to get some, but if they won't work, then it would be a waste..

Hi! I've had good luck with BossKuts in my Cuttlebug... I start with plate A on the bottom, then plate C, then the thin die plate (maybe a shim of card stock under the die plate), your card stock to be die cut on top of the dir plate, topped by plate B. But, BossKuts plates are to thin to cut chip board. If I need the shape I am cutting to be thicker (like chip board), I will cut several and adhere them (I use my xyron) stacked together. Hope this helps.
i just bought my first dye cut machine, a cuttlebug, and am excited and eager to use it! i have a couple brass stencils, the flat ones, that i use with pastes... can these also be used for CB machines?
I use my brass stencils all the time. They are in the chart in the first post. I also gave my preferred method in post #179. The only thing you need to realize is that the entire stencil is embossed - even the edges. This usually isn't bad at all - it just gives you an attractive embossed edge or you can cut closer to the image.
Wow! How very helpful. One of the most frustrating things about trying to be creative with a die cut machine (non electronic) is spending (wasting - lol) the time trying to figure out the right configuration of sandwich. You're so wonderful to compile this list and share it with us. Thank you!
I searched this thread, and did not find anything, so I hope this ? hasn't already been asked ... I also saw the ? asked on another thread with no answer.
Have any of you all used the Sizzix BIGZ dies in the CB?
They have recently come out with some really neat designs, and I got one last night for 50% off at AC Moore, but I didn't see it listed in the sandwich/stacks doc?
Or are these considered the same as the BigShot large dies?
I would love to be able to use these in the oh, so versatile bug!
i get my cuttlebug on tuesday .Iam soo excited but not really sure how to use it (b plates etc)any hints on what not to do ,i dont want to break it the first time i use it .There was something here about stacks ??how do I learn about what to use and also can I use my brass templates???

I'm moving the Sandwich download to this forum so that I can post updates without bugging the mods (thanks Kim for the suggestion!).
I've read through the hundreds (it's thousands now, right?) of posts in the Cuttlebugitis thread, as well as other threads on the boards regarding die-cutting and compatibility between dies and machines.
So, I made up a chart on Cuttlebug Sandwich Stacks based on info I found on the boards, and PMs from users that had tried some unique things.
This list is NOT complete, but I'll add to it and repost if SCSers have additional findings. Hopefully, someone else will find this as useful as I have.

NOTE: The Cuttlebugs tend to differ in space inside the machine, so be sure to ERR ON THE THIN SIDE when putting new stacks into your machine!

My question is: I have tried the Fiskars recipe for Collection II and also the Brass Template recipe and I have used plumbers gasket. It does not even go in the cuttlebug. I can't force it either. So I tried without if and it did nothing for an emboss imprint. I tried cardboard shims and nothing. What else can I do? TIA!
PS: I really don't want to break my new cuttlebug!
