Happy New Year to all and I pray that each of you and your families will be blessed with good health as well as material and spiritual blessings.

I love kitchen gadgets too, Val- but I've never heard of Dutch Oven Bread. I just did a google search and it sounds great! Is your Dutch Oven cast iron or stoneware?

It sounds like everyone had a nice Christmas - can you believe it's here and gone already?

We started a new tradition this year. Our family hosts Christmas for any of our friends who don't have family in town - or at least that is how it started LOL!. But we had so much fun that one family choose to come here instead of their local family LOL. This year I took a piece of plain fabric (a lightweight canvas-like fabric I had stashed in the basement). I put a Sharpie marker at each place setting and encouraged everyone to sign and doodle. It is SO great!! So many great sentiments and jokes - I plan to use it again next year with different colored sharpies.

Vicki, I hope you try the Dutch Oven Bread - it's the closest thing to "fail-proof" that I've ever tried. My pot is enamel-coated cast iron.

Yes, we spend so much time preparing for Christmas and it always seems like a letdown when it's done and we're on to the next thing. I did something to prolong it today when I organized all my gift bags, smoothed and folded all my tissue paper and recyclable wrapping paper and ribbon. It took quite a while, but my closet actually has a little more room, and I'll be able to find the right size/color the next time I want to wrap a gift.

What a lovely tradition! I wish I lived near you... I used to have a group of single friends in Chicago who would get together for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It wasn't at anyone's home though .. it was at our favorite neighborhood bar. Pretty sad, really.

Val, it sounds as though your church family has filled that space for you - I'm happy for you.

My dh and I decided tonight that we are not ready for the holidays to end - we are leaving the tree & decorations up for at least another week. I agree with Val - so much time, preparation and it's over so fast! We are going to enjoy it a while longer.

Great photo, Vicki! And yep, your husband deserves a special dinner or something.
Here the tree and decorations traditionally don't come down till Little Christmas, Epiphany, Three Kings, Nollaig na mBan (Women's Christmas in Irish) or whatever you choose to call it on the 6th Jan. I always wait till then, although you sometimes see trees out in the garden as soon as the 26th.

Sabrina -- growing up in my predominantly Italian American neighborhood - NO ONE took their tree down until Little Christmas -EVER! It was like against the law or something LOL!
We will be doing the same thing this year.

Congratulations, Lee -- how wonderful to be able to work with your daughter! I checked out the site and had to have the little dog with the heart -- he looks like my guys... Now I have to learn how to use a digistamp. It's about time, right? Thanks for the push - and good luck to you both!

I have been diligently working on filling my Scrapbox. For the first time EVER I have my ribbon separated by color. I can now clearly see how many of the SAME rolls of ribbon I own. And it is abundantly clear that I have a bit of a surplus supply issue!!!! I have a box of donations already set aside and I'm not close to done yet!

This task has been a double blessing in that it has also been a great diversion. I found out the other day that a dear friend of mine has terminal lung cancer and not a lot of time left. I'm heartbroken and feel so helpless.

Vicki, that's so sad about your friend, I'm sorry to hear that. But yes, having something to do to occupy your mind a bit certainly helps at a time like that while the news really sinks in.

Posted in another thread, but wanted to share this here so more people can feel appreciated too!

Ladies! I got a thank you card for my HYCCT donation and the back of the envelope says the following:

"Please share with any friends who made cards!"

so I am! This card should be shared with everyone who created cards to donate to the center and all the sponsors who helped encourage people to donate.

I got a card with a purple bell-flower on it.

The inside left says "I feel privileged to have "met you through your act of kindness"

The card says:

"Dear Makalah, I am a volunteer at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and I visit with patients who are having chemotherapy or transfusions. My coordinator gave us some of your beautiful cards to hand out to patients & I wanted you to know of the joy, gratefulness and love they had for the cards and the gratitude they all expressed to those wonderful people who made them & donated them. They brought many smiles to faces & believe me - they are definitely enjoying them and amazed someone would do this for them.

Thank you so much for your talent and love you show to others by sharing with thtem.

Just wanted you to know they were very much appreciated and thank you so much. Love, Kay"

Doesn't that make you want to start on your HYCCT cards for next year?

What a nice thank you note! Knowing the cards were going to be a blessing to the patients was the best part of the HYCCT challenge.

What a nice card - thank you so much for sharing it! I just picked my friend up from a very long day at the cancer center. She had her first round of chemo. It is a long day to sit in that chair, hooked to an IV. I was thinking about what a nice diversion it would be for them to have a basket of cards to look through for a few minutes.

My amazing (and waaaay too quick!) FIL has finished my scrapbox lookalike! In-laws are coming Friday for the weekend to help hubby rip up the old carpet in my stamp room, put down the wood floor, paint the wall and a half (the other walls are log!) and install the scrap box. My craft room is a disaster!!! I thought I had until mid-Feb!!!!! YIKES!!!!!!!! And we'll be in Denver tomorrow thru Wed so I have to do most of it today and then finish next Thursday! I'm gonna have a meltdown!!!!!!!

Lee -- you will be so happy when you are on the other side of this project. I just can't get over what a difference the scrapbox makes for me. Gone is all that frustration that happens when you can't find your stuff. You know you have it but can't imagine what where you hid it! I can't tell you how many blades I found for my trimmer - I'll NEVER have to find those puppies again LOL!

Good luck -- I hope you'll share pics when it's done. So cool that your FIL could make something like that.

Whew! So far I've only put stamps into shoebox size containers by company, GKD into Binders (need to do a few more) and Unity into the Scraponizers. And got one WHOLE bag of trash so far. I have a LOTTTTTTTTTTT more to do....but it's a start!

Hi all!
Remember me?
Things have been hectic here. A little overwhelming too.
Target kept me on as a true employee so I'm still currently working five nights a week and running all around getting the regular life stuff done during the day. We had a wonderful loud family filled Christmas and a mellow silly New Year's eve.
