I'm using up some of my stash too - I love that. Some decoupage kits, partial cards, colored images, paper scraps, and a stack of paper-pieced donuts! So glad you can join us, Theresa! Miss you on the Mix team.

Paper pieced donuts!!! I don't suppose they would pass muster for the HYCCT recipe thread, lol.

Spring is now upon us and I'm ready to shrug off the winter blues and get back into the creative groove. I still have my art journal nearby to slap stuff into when necessary.

I try to start out with a clean space -- but it doesn't stay that way for very long. I stamp at my kitchen bar, and I couldn't tell you the last time I was actually able to eat at the bar!

Looking forward to October. I don't do much to get prepared, because doing a scavenger hunt for the items I need is part of the fun of the challenge I suppose. This October is going to be a super busy month for me this year, but if it means getting up an hour earlier or staying up an hour later, I will do my best to complete each and every challenge. I've done these for a couple of seasons and I just love them. Thanks for all those who create the challenges, for Lydia for lining up such incredible prizes, and all of you who help build the excitement on this thread.

Is anyone keeping a countdown to HYCCT? I think it's T-minus 12 and counting! Excited and as ready as I'll ever be!

Egads! No, I'm not ready! Been making small in-roads, which is something but work has been annoying me with it's, well, entire presence. Next weekend is my big push. I am taking two days off + the weekend + kids on a trip with dad = success. Hopefully I will not be distracted by too many shiny objects (squirrel!) and be able to achieve my goal.

I use Memento Tuxedo Black ink or other colors of Memento - have had no problems with the inks on clear or rubber stamps.

OK - question for those who have done this before.
How many cards do you cut / get ready for this challenge? I've gotten some CS, have DP & things to put on cards, but how many cards do you cut/fold & get ready before this starts??

Zero. I mostly gather supplies that I have been wanting to bust out. I try to work from those limited supplies. For me, cutting a card base takes far less time than rifling through all my junk to find inspiration. Though, full disclosure, I have plenty of half sheets floating around in the back of my scrap box and will pull from there first until I run out, which would be wonderful!

Last year my plan was to use up some odd sized envelopes, which I did. This year I am going to try to use up a lot of odds-n-ends. I am going to try to use up some of those embellishments that I bought to make quick cards that have been languishing in my stash.

It's zero for me too! One card a day apart from the first day, it's very manageable to prep as I go. I just try to make sure I have some pink card handy, and a few embellishments that might be suitable.
But if you make all your cards on a white or neutral base, there will be thirty-something challenges, so you could have a fair number of bases all ready to go .

Zero here, too. I do try to gather any card size cuts that I happen to have in my craft room already, do the same thing with die cuts, and prestamped images, but I don't cut or stamp anything for this. I kind of use these big events as stash busters! Other than that, I just try to find my table and the floor around my table and clear the area around my cutting tools. Are you getting the idea that I'm a messy crafter? Double whatever you're picturing.

Zero here, too. A challenge a day is not that big a deal to this vsn veteran. That said, here's a shot of a couple of bins that I keep handy. One's full of card bases leftover from other projects. The other's full of panel sized pieces. There's a baggie in the panels bin for white and ivory, each, inside panels, since I like to use dark cs for the card bases.

Brenda, even your scraps look organized!

I do do any getting ready besides trying to get some swaps out the door early. I do pick up some premade card bases from Joann's, its great to have them with matching envelopes ready to go.

I also have a bin of card kits from swaps in going to try to use.

Ha! You didn't see the rest of the paper closet! Here's a tip: I use a (clean, never-used-for-its-original-intended-purpose) kitty litter box for scraps and stuff while vsn/hycct/dtgd is in progress. It's just the right size for sorting through. I have a couple kitty litter boxes on hand that I use for paper-making.
They're also the right size for corraling glitter when working with kids' projects. Just keep an eye on the cat.

I have a pair of forceps from a dissecting kit, from biology 101. Well cleaned, of course. Insanely pointed and perfect for placing stuff on cards. I shudder to think what flesh those tips have touched prior to paper.

A seam ripper and thread cutter from the sewing room for distressing, as well as a lot of my quilting rulers for measuring. A paint pad from the hardware store for a stamp scrubber. Old mouse pads for grooming flowers. Shall I continue?

I've been nose-down in the recycle bin at school, looking for copy room mistakes: card stock printed inappropriately (Why didn't the person who used the machine before remove the cs from the bin?!) or stuff that printed with the lid open (pure black). Totally not archival, but usable. Sheri, we could market our ideas, but anyone who'd be interested would be too cheap to buy 'em!

True dat! My children keep grabbing my pop dots so I need to make a Michaels run tomorrow.

I don't dive in dumpsters! But I have several pairs of hemostats (curved & straight) and all the tools I use for jewelry setting. (I've also used hemos with radio wires ).

I'll stop at Michael's tomorrow & get another box of adhesive (for my ATG). I know I have foam tape.
And I have a lot of "Bling" - may get some more plain brads.

none, because every card I make is a different size and not A-2... (and the colors of the card base coordinate with what ever I built for the front)
( unless they ask for a flat cas one layer card )

some of the challenges may not be cards also, didn't Lee do a cupcake wrapper / gift tag thing last year? ( something anyways)
there was one shaped card one last year...

and I like to do tags so, if the challenge does not specify "card" its possible to tweak it that way too.

well, I've never gone bottoms up into a dumpster but I have been known to pick around the top if I see something. And Lawdy...if I see somethin on the curb, I'm pullin over....LOL!! I need one of those obnoxious beeping things for fast stops and back ups to warn anyone behind me....I found a wonderful oak rocker on the curb last week because the rocker was broke off....but it was right there with it!!!! Hadn't they ever heard of wood glue???? Oh well, my soon to be new momma niece now has a lovely old oak rocker for her nursery...

I just ordered a bunch of pop dots from Oriental Trading. I have a hard time finding the Pop Dot brand here so it's just easier to order them. And free shipping on any order through today with their coupon code. Shipping with them is a tad slow but it's not like I'm completely out.

And I have a lot of "Bling" - may get some more plain brads.
I used my hemostats yesterday to open a drawer when I went to open it and pulled the handle off-the screw was sticking out and I was able to grab it with the hemostats and use them as the drawer pull!
It has been a rough couple of weeks for me. DH had a talk with me about the amount of time I was spending stamping and on the computer and it kind of sucked the joy out of it all for me for a bit here. Then this week we've had difficult stuff to deal with related to his job as pastor. I haven't stamped at all this week. I need to at least go down and clear off the desk a bit but my heart just isn't into it right at the moment. Just havin' a weepy kind of day I guess.

I still think the litter box reuse wins for best reuse! Makes me lol every time I think of it.

I use a needle threader to thread twine and ribbon thru my buttons. I love those little things! I have a few crochet hooks and knitting needles that I keep handy as well, even though I don't crochet or knit.

Good morning ladies! Sold a ton of things at a demo garage sale (I'm not a demo but my demo will bring your things to her group's garage sale) so I'm placing a large order soon which will include clear envelopes and stampin dimentionals (my favorite). I have quite a bit of pink cardstock (amongst other colors). I do not "pre prep" anything. Like others have said a card a day (except day one) is very manageable. I have been putting more cards into my favorites for inspiration/ideas so I can make something relatively quick. I'm the self proclaimed "Queen of CASE" and feel no guilt doing it. I'm grateful there are sites where we can get inspiration!

My su! demo is a dental hygienist as a day job. She uses floss to thread her buttons.

I've got to make it clear: The litter boxes that I use for paper crafting have never been used by the cat! Not a re-use. (Yuck.) Just re-purposed. Although, they can get kind of cruddy after being used for paper making. The pulp can get messy.

The cat has his own covered litter boxes, out in the garage, well away from the craft room.

Here's another re-purposed device: Plastic rings for closures.

The Internet can be a time suck, it's true. I struggle with it myself and it's one of the reasons I'm not a big chatter/tweeter/facebooker, etc...

I also struggle with craft time. A card a day is a HUGE stretch for me but it's one of the reasons why I look forward to HYCCT. It's nice to give myself permission to go on a stamping rampage this one time of the year. I stay up too late, let the kids watch too much TV and shed the guilt for letting myself take this me time for 31 glorious days.

Thanks ladies! I did take some time to stamp today and it felt pretty good. My DH was right in what he was saying to me, unfortunately he said it in a pretty harsh way. We've talked through it all and we're all good, but it has been hard to face the need to step back a bit and put more energy in other places. I guess selfishly I keep waiting for it to be "my turn". I still have three more homeschool students to go who are 6th, 8th and 11th grad this year and they really do need to be my main focus.
Ministry is just plain hard some days and now that we're in it full time, I appreciate all the people who served us along the way. I know I surely didn't take enough time to pray for and encourage them as much as I should have. If people knew how hard a toll it takes on their pastors and families I think they'd be a bit more supportive.
I will find a way to make HYCCT work as my motivation is pretty strong with my mom now with metastasized breast cancer and a member of our church recently diagnosed with her second bout of breast cancer!
