Omg - I'm so happy for you!! Yay! What kind of work do you do?
Thanks everyone!
I'm a reporter for a newspaper. Working nights, holidays and weekends is part of the job, but sometimes it's hard. I've managed to go my entire career without having to work Christmas and I've only had to work Thanksgiving once, I think.
But now that I can have Thanksgiving with my family, I have to make pie. I thought I was off the hook for that this year!
There are definitely some cool aspects. A few years ago, I was assigned to cover a visit to town by Pres. George W. Bush that included a ride in the presidential motorcade (I was in one of the vans trailing the limos!). It was pretty awesome.
But then there are the not-so-fun parts, like sitting through interminably long public meetings.
Hey ladies, I have a question for those of you who use the touch twin markers. I have about 20 so far and was wondering when I buy more and want like reds how do I know which one is the light red, med red and dark red? I am trying to do some shading or blending and I think I have the wrong colors to do it with. I have their color chart but that only confuses me. I would greatly appreciate any comments and Lydia if I shouldn't post this here plz remove. Thanks in advance.
Yay for more winners!!!!
My day is improving rapidly. Along with happy stampers and kitties, I just found out I don't have to work on Thanksgiving!!!! I was totally dreading it and was feeling sad about missing my annual dinner with my cousins - my closest family down here. Now I am super happy!
Thanksgiving Day is my Friday... I will get off at 0500 on Black Friday... I'm THINKING about going to Black Friday sales, figure by 0500 the crowds SHOULD be thinned down??? WHO gets up THAT early.... I'm thinking that sleep is WAY more important than getting shoved around by a bunch of people that were JUST "Thankful" for all they had less than 24 hours previously!!!!
Has anyone gone to Black Friday before??? Should I leave my gun at home???
I doodle a lot during meetings!!! And with the influx of social media, I can usually entertain myself with Twitter or Facebook (work-related, of course!)
The job is really about 10 percent glamour, 90 percent grunt work. But it can be very rewarding grunt work sometimes, too!

I always use Old Red for my shading... Touch Twins don't have near the variety of Copics... go to JeanneS's blog and check out her tutes or else MamaDini too... Lydia played with them at CHA.... she may have tutes also!!!
Yay, last Renaissance lesson for the week complete!
And yay for more prizes!
Thanks for all your kind remarks about my grandma and her picture. I have another one of her with my grandpa that I treasure. I still remember Grandma not wanting me to take it because they were in their "work clothes" but that is how I remember them both....always working. Both my grandmas were incredible cooks and I try to keep some of their recipes alive and was blessed to inherit cookbooks from both of them with handwritten recipes and notes all over them! Maybe in honor of them I'll put a couple recipes in the box tonight!
I just saw your Grandmother's photo, Gail - how incredibly precious and what a wonderful legacy!

A lot of the stores are starting their black Friday sales on Thursday night now, so maybe it won't be so bad. I think it depends on which stores you go to. I haven't done any black Friday shopping in years, but I did work retail for awhile in college and covered it a couple times for work. The most important thing to bring is your patience.

Went one tiime and that did it for me. I enjoy my sleep too much too. I couldn't stand to see people acting this way is what did it for me. Too much ugly talk and people trying to run you down and over.

I figured I'd give it a shot... since I'm already up....
My DD's are trying to convince me that we girls should make a day of it, but I'm not convinced that I would enjoy it! I love people, but I don't love crowds if you know what I mean....especially if those crowds are trying to edge each other out to get the bargains!

I was on my way to work 2 years ago and drove past walmart, there was an ambulance and fire truck out front (along wtih 2 police cars)... thought they were just there "in case".... NOPE! Fist fight over DVD's! SERIOUSLY??? Ummm, bail, attorney etc WAY out prices a DVD at regular cost!!! LOL
Good luck!! I wish you the best shopping day ever.
Thanks so much!!!! I got a thing in the mail from Bath and Body works... it may be all gone by the time I get there, but I LOVE that stuff!!! AND finishing up a giftie box to a friend!!!!
I did Black Friday ONCE! Grandsons wanted light sabers and my daughter could not get away to get them so I had orders to go get them. I got up and got to the store at 5:00 a.m. and had them and out by 5:15 and NEVER AGAIN! The crowds were terrible and pushy!

No need to turn the heater on in my house... AND I have Scentsy warmers.... tee hee... I can't help it, I'm a "snarf".... MUST sniff before buying, even refills... and I KNOW what they smell like! LOL
Love that Montana kitty! My son's in Bozeman, where are you living? It's been a bit snowy, but so beautiful
My DD and SIL took a Personal Finance class together in college and had to find fake jobs, a house to buy, etc. Their "life" was based in Bozeman!
BTW, that was a really good exercise for a couple heading toward marriage as they worked on a budget together. It really brought up a lot of interesting "discussions" as they did their homework at our house after Sunday lunches. Better to work on those differences of opinion on matters of money before the marriage than after!

I haven't bought any yet for the holidays of course by the time I buy them it will be over. So hard to believe next week is Thanksgiving. Where did the year go? Have you bought any? What's your favorite?
