Hi just checking in again. I've completely lost track of where we are up to with the prizes, but a glance at the first post tells me we have lots of new winners.

My whole evening got turned on it's head yesterday. My DD came out from the city to visit and we spent some quality mother-daughter time bonding over reviving twelve near drowned baby ducklings. We though we'd only be able to save a few but they all came good in the end and are now back with their mother. We went to bed exhausted from the worry of it all. DD impressed me with getting down and dirty to save them even though she was still in her office work wear. And lets face it, ducks are very messy! She is my hero!

Oh my goodness, don't get me started on Christmas Eve. People gets nuts over those food traditions. I don't care what I have. My family didn't have any traditional foods but my favorite thing was when we'd have cold cut platters and make sandwiches. But my husband is insane over it. Has to have fish. He's not as nuts as the rest of his family and I could tell you horror stories from years past.
I had two Polish friends and they each had to have 12 courses. And each course had to have a specific food. they had family who were absolutely crazy over it. They'd crack me up with their stories.

Dinner prep is in full swing here... I smelled "something dead" on one side of the kitchen - pulled out the freezer, and there was a huge dead rat behind there. So thankful that my husband was around (I do not "do" dead things) to throw it out. Hoping that was the big one that we have been trying to get for weeks, and thankful that only GOOD smells will be coming from my kitchen now!

Yuck. I thought there'd be nothing worse than a rat in the house but a dead rat would be worse.
You've brought back some very old memories for me. We had a rat in our house but it got caught in a have a heart trap so we didn't have to deal with finding a dead one.
We got mice in our Poconos house every winter. I found a dead one in a cup once, yuck.

I have been away from SCS all week-well except for the color challenge-we had 13 people for dinner and I was busy all week cleaning and preparing the feast. It was a wonderful celebration at my home and everyone ate to their hearts content. I was out today doing some Black Friday stuff. Just checked back in here and I saw that I am a winner. I am sooo excited.

Congratulations Mary! Isn't it fun to plan what you are going to get (unless it's pre-selected by our wonderful prize providers- that's good too!) I can't wait to order my stamps! I even created a list of what I want, as was suggested quite a few posts back

Ugggh, dead stuff is so gross. We got mice in our VA house every winter and it was definitely not fun! My DH had to handle those for me too. Thankfully nothing ever died when he was out to sea.
My DH grew up in the South and we have taken on the New Year's Day traditions of collard greens, black eyed peas, & hog jowls (I don't always do this, sometimes we settle for just the ham hocks in the peas and greens)
One Christmas Eve I made Spaetzle and Cabbage with a recipe Emeril and now that has become a tradition with Sticky Buns for Christmas morning often. We do love to eat.

So I think that if you used it in your stuffing there's so many other flavors that it might work. Besides the sausage I used onions, celery and walnuts and moistened it with dry sherry and broth. Sometimes I put chopped apples in it but hubby doesn't like fruit in it.
I thought about adding an apple also. We never did, but I think I'd like it. I'll use the turkey sausage for something else, perhaps for breakfast sausage. Or maybe in spaghetti sauce. The dry sherry sounds like a good ingredient. That's the "secret" ingredient in my home made spaghetti sauce. (shhhh...) I also dusted the top of my casseroles with grated Parmesan cheese. Added a nice flavor without detracting from the veggies and herbs.

It was mostly my fault for not being vigilant about watching them near a water trough that had a little bit too much water splashed out of it from the bigger ducks. They couldn't get out. For the next two weeks I'll only let them out if I'm out in the yard with them. No more checking from the verandah every ten minutes. They are just the right size for hawks too!

Partner is just about home now with a produce bin of fresh corn to sort thru. The ducks and cows love it, and even the dogs think it's a treat to get a cob thrown their way.

I've recently moved out to an old farm house that my partner has lived in all his life and it has decades of stuff from previous generations. I'm not looking forward to my first mouse plague that will inevitably happen. For now the mice situation is good with four adult cats including a mother cat with five hungry babies to keep nourished. Which reminds me I haven't cuddled the kittens today.

Hello ladies...my girlfriend came over & wanted to make Christmas cards even went to Archivers & bought a BIG SHOT, bought a lot of supplies but couldn't get anything right. She loved my cards I was making. Do you have any suggestions that I could help her with to get started. She said she loved seeing all my cards for this challenge & wanted to get back into it. She was kind enough to buy me a quilling beginner kit, that she's the expert in.

Hope everyone enjoyed their day, my DH just left for work & he'll be home around 3:00 then he'll have to start smoking our turkey. I told him I'll watch it while he takes a few cat naps.

Connie, I think my best advice is to work from an idea she likes - if she bought specific sets, maybe cruise the gallery here or the manufacturer's site for ideas. I think it's easier to adapt an idea you find elsewhere than it is to try to come up with your own, especially if you're new or rusty!
Also, keep the designs simple, but use a nice embellishment, like a ribbon or button. That is my .02. Hope it helps.

and hi everyone! Got home about 7 p.m. tonight from the Thanksgiving festivities. Had a really nice dinner and visit with my cousins who hosted.
I stopped a couple of places on my way home, but didn't really Black Friday shop. Mostly browsing stores I won't be near again before Christmas (The Container Store and Crate and Barrel primarily)
Tonight I am going to finish up a Christmas wreath and tomorrow will start decking the halls. Excited to get out all my holiday stuff, but a little nervous, because I bought new furniture this year and I'm not sure my previous decorating plan will work with the new stuff. We'll soon see!

Thanks. She bought a tree scene, embossed it then tried to cut a window but it didn't work to well. After she left, I sent her the link to SCS so she can get ideas at least to get her started...that's how I got started.

I made 12 Christmas cards tonight, it's almost 2:00 in the morning DH should be coming home soon to start the smoker for the turkey. I played with different embossing powders & ended up like the white...which means I'll just do a few of each & then some.

Great start to your Christmas stash. How wonderful to have a friend to to share this hobby with. If she like what you do that would be a good place to start.

A scrapbooking friend of mine was interested in my stamping hobby, so I showed her a thing or two about the fundamentals of stamping. Just two weeks ago she was onstage doing a demo for a local SU! hosted event. She's been called up a couple of times to demo for them and I jokingly tell her, 'You know dear, I did teach you EVERYTHING you needed to know about stamping!' Her papercrafting talent however is all her own.

I hope you all had a Happy thanksgiving with your families. I will only have one family out of four. They all live too far away.

Dina, I hope all your problems have gotten better. I am still four pages behind. And I refuse to skip to page on to see who won! Maybe because I am in the kitchen today, I will get caught up - a little here and a little there!
Congrats to all the winners lately!

[QUOTE=Cook22;19842410]If you were only just off the coast you could have swum ashore and taken a trip east to visit Bridget and me

I would love to do that. We went to Scotland a few years ago with a local travel club and loved that area. Our next trip was to be Ireland but then the bank stopped it's travel club because the lady (72 years old) retired. I don't know why she would do that. Each trip of 45 people was made up from the same 75 people so you knew everyone and we had a really good time. But no more! Thanks for the invite though.

The brussel sprouts were really great. DH says it was the best Thanksgiving meal I've ever done. I had cooked a lot the day before and felt more relaxed than usual and it was really fun to have the adult kids home so all in all a really good day.
Great looking pies and and kids too! Congrats!

This was a question - QUOTE THAT I DELETED TOO MUCH AND LOST THE QUOTE

Do you have any suggestions that I could help her with to get started. She said she loved seeing all my cards for this challenge & wanted to get back into it. She was kind enough to buy me a quilling beginner kit, that she's the expert in.

What I did for a friend just starting out - I made a chart of sizes for the layers. 5 1/4 x 4, 5 x 3 3/4, etc. I showed her what 1/8 or 1/4 smaller looked like etc. Then she had an Idea for figuring out how to get to those looks. I hope this makes sense.

Oh, Connie, those are really pretty! I can't even pick a favorite. Hope your turkey day turns out great!

Speaking of making cards, my stepson wanted a cute card to make up and give to the twenty girls on his all-star cheer squad, so I put him to work! They turned out really cute, and it was fun to see him so hard at work in my cave. I'll try to post pics sometime this morning-

That's a great idea and I bet it helped a lot! Happy Turkey!
