I have a wonderful Pfaff machine but I am afraid to use it with paper crafting. What are some other "cheaper" but reliable machines that are out there or something anyone would recommend? Thanks.

I have a really nice Brother machine that my mom gave me for xmas last year. It's almost too fancy, and I think I need a class on it to use it to it's full potential! I would love to sew more on my cards, but it's kind of a pain to figure it out. I even broke the initial needle that was on it, and had to switch to a more "heavy duty" needle. I would love to hear suggestions too!
Janome mini, hand's down. Currently out of stock on this website, but the sale price is $49.99. I adore my machine.
I ADORE my Janome sew mini! It doesn't have a ton of stitching patterns but for paper crafting it's exactly what I need and VERY easy to thread/learn

Lori (I'll speak for the team here) loves her Janome and Beate loves her fancy sewing machine for sewing on cards - so you can use any machine that fits your budget and space! I am genetically sewing impaired so I don't do anything, but I listen to my homegirls!
I mentioned to my hubby that I was thinking about a new mini for crafting with last....that way he won't be too surprised when a pkg arrives in the mail!
Is it sad that my Herskquvana Viking is used for stitching paper? I just use my regular sewing machine, then switch the needle for a cleaner, sharper one when I need it for actual work. Then, I have all the stitch patterns I want. LOL
I have a Brother sewing machine that I've used for everything from making ACU bags to paper crafting...it's really easy to use and it cost less than $100 at WalMart It's a "full size" machine, but it's easy to use, put away and doesn't take up a lot of space

I use the really cheap cotton thread from WalMart in ecru. I never change the thread because I can color it with my copics to perfectly match my project. I color after I have sewn.
I have a Brother machine from Walmart that my sister gave me for my birthday and just sitting on a desk, lol. I've only used it once I think to try it out when I got it. Since then I haven't touched it, lol. Poor machine. I need to try it on paper crafting one of these days, maybe this weekend. I never sew before and wanted to learn so I asked my sister to get me one, hehe. I love being the youngest, haha.
For threads I used Coats & Clark All Purpose. It's think but so far so good

Good idea to use your Copics to color the thread, but how do you manage to avoid getting unwanted color on your project? I'd be afraid of messing up! Maybe you have some tips?!!
Oh wow. I hadn't thought to color my thread with copics. I color nearly everything else with them so why not? I'm with Denice though, how do you do it after you've sewn?
I use a Gutterman thread that is intended for upholstery sewing. It is way thicker than regular thread and i mostly use a color that matches Kraft cardstock, as that is the most common card color that i use.
I'll second Jessica's sentiment. I bought a Janome mini specifically for paper and wanted one with zig-zag stitches...got it on Overstock.com for about $30. I love it and it's "sew" easy to use and thread.

Ah, good idea to use upholstery thread! I JUST got my Janome Sew Mini last week! It was out of stock before at Hancock's Fabric but, it was back in stock for Black Friday so I bought one...they're still in stock. $39.99 plus I found a coupon code for free shipping. Do you have the coupon code for free shipping? I have been keeping my eye on this and would LOVE to add it to my tools!
Unfortunately, I think the coupon for free shipping has expired as I can't find it anymore...
Whenever shopping online I ALWAYS search the store name and coupon code (eg. Hancock Fabrics Coupon Code) and at least half the time I find one for a discount or free shipping, etc.
If you spend $60+ you get free shipping, though...but, I don't know if you need anything else from there...perhaps thread and bobbins?
Otherwise, it's about $8 shipping but, I still think it's worth it!

Oh, and I think there's a coupon code for 10% off orders of $60+
I'm sure that to get free shipping, you'd have to spend $60 after any discounts and before shipping and taxes but, if you were going to spend the $60 to get free shipping anyway, then you may as well get an extra $6 of stuff for the same price!
Good luck...let me know if you get it!

Haha..sorry for leaving ANOTHER reply but, I forgot to include the coupon code. It's: DECKTHEHALLS
Oh no! Awwe...the sale must've ended recently...well, either you will get it for Christmas OR...I am guessing it'll go on sale for $39.99 again AFTER Christmas so, if you get any cash for Christmas, then you can still get it...I DO think you'll LOVE it! So far, I'm LOVING mine...and Jess has had hers much longer and is STILL raving about it so....
Plus, it's SUPER easy to thread and use!
I CAN'T believe that your term as a Farmer is up and you already had your last post...wow...time flies...going to miss you but, I'm sure I'll still be seeing you around the farm...right? Plus, I follow your blog so, I'll see you there, too...
I know!! It went by so fast!!! Seems like just yesterday we were getting all the info to start our term and now it's gone by in a flash. It was the best though and yeah, I'm not going to stray too far from the farm. I'm a life time fan of TGF for sure, Jess and Marie both know that!!! I will def be around here and on the FB page as well as always posting on my blog using my fav TGF stamps. Yes, I have got to get that sewing machine. I'll talk to hubby tonight. If not for Christmas, my bday is in Feb so maybe for that!
