I've been using Copics now for about a year and LOVE THEM.
Copics and TGF images go so well together!!
Thankyou to Margie!!! for noting a great sale from Claudia @ Claudia and Company Store on her blog as I just order a few to add to my collection.
I wanted to start a post to talk Copics
How many ladies use copics - Ciao or Sketch?
How many is too many?
What are your favourite colours?
Storage?
Tips?
Purchase refills or refill stations?
AND anything else you want to share.
I use a mix of Ciao and Sketch markers however I do like the sketch better.
My collection is around 130 with BG being my favourite colour range.
I think I do tend to over blend!! HELP
I practice all the time, Darren looks at my markers and says ... Really you want/need more :O)
Would love to hear how you learn, collect and use your copic markers.
I just started collecting within the last 6-8 mos. I guess I have around 75 so far. I am getting the sketch because they are refillable. I wish you could get a finer point in place of the chisel end, but only the ciao has the fine point. Oh well...eventually, I will mix some ciao in, but only in hair colors because I want the finer tip for hair details.
I have been slowly getting them from Mikes, HL, and Dick Blick (they were on sale at DB for $5.25 each, so yay!). Craft embargo, placed by hubby, has halted my progress, but will continue to get more later. I try to always buy in groups of three - within the same color family.
That is a great way to buy them in 3's of the same color family!!! The best prices I've seen are at icopic and oozak - esp at oozak I know you get free shipping when you spend over $50 which really, if you aren't buying $50 worth of markers at a time....really, should you be buying?! LOL Totally kidding, I try to save up and buy about $50 worth at a time so I'll normally get about a dozen or so. I think the sketches are now about $4.47 with the recent increase. Tip: To get this special pricing you sign up for an account with oozak but it's free.

I don't know how many I have, I want to say about 150? I have all the E's and V's and slowly working my way thru the rest of the color families. I started out with ciao's of course but now I only buy sketches. The ciao's are refillable just like the sketches, they just take a lesser amount when you do refill them. Also, the ciao's and sketches have the same brush tip. It's the original Copic markers that have the fine hard tip opposite the chisel. I actually love these for coloring small details like eyes especially but I don't have many of them. Eventually I'll figure out my fav eye color combos and perhaps buy them. Oh, and definitely buy refills. They are so worth it, I mean they are about 5.22 now (used to be less than $5 darn the increase) but oh well still worth it when you get about 8-10 marker refills per bottle so that works for me! I love my copics - don't know what I'd do without them. I tell everyone, it's the markers, not my coloring skillz. LOL

Ya, I'm on the right track with buying markers in 3's!!!!
Thanks Carisa didn't think there was a different in the tips between the two types,
April - Great price $5.25 good luck with building your collection.
In NZ the copic's aren't used by many so very limited NZ suppliers, They charge $7.95 for Ciao's and don't sell sketchs so I import from Mad for Markders Australia as
US suppliers won't ship to New Zealand. So finding Claudia was great and I purchased 32 markers taking full advantage of the sale :O) Haven't told Darren yet!!
I have at least three from most of the color families - W, BG, YR, etc. I have a lot more than three for E, B, R, C, G, etc. I wanted a bit of variety, now I am focusing on skin and hair colors.
thank goodness, our local Dick Blick hasn't caught the increase because of their monster supply. the local scrap store has very few and therefore caught the increase in their last order. she is currently charging based on whether it was in stock before the price increase.
I live in the Netherlands and Copics here have quite an expensive pricetag. The cheapest I found them is €5 per Sketch marker which is just under $7. Except for my first couple of skintone Ciao markers, I haven't bought any markers in the Netherlands since. Like many I'm a crafter on a budget so I looked for other options.
I found a great US seller on e-bay where I purchase batches of 12 Sketch markers, about twice a year. And I bought a batch of 16 markers plus two storage boxes when I was in Japan last year. The Copics there are about the same price as in the US.
Currently I have about 50 Sketch markers, compared to the 300+ colours there are, it's quite a small collection I've bought the markers in groups of two because I wanted to have a larger range of colours first. Next time I'm probably going to add some colours for shading.

In August I went to the Scrap Expo and was able to buy sketch markers at $4 each, and they had a deal if I bought 10, I got 1 free...oh my! Thank goodness I had a stash of cash my dh didn't know about. I walked away with all the FV's and a few others for a total of 22 new Copics! What a fab deal! I now own about 125, and only buy refills at iCopic....it's the same price as a new marker and free shipping over $50 like Carisa said. I've been using Copics for a couple of years now and wouldn't give them up for anything! I try other mediums and am never happy with the results.
I not looking forward to buying the refills - $16.56 each!!!!!! from australia including postage. I've only needed to buy 2 so far.... Gosh its wallet breaking.
Do you buy refills as you need them or save them up and buy in bulk?
I am a copic addict! I have almost 200. I have been taking an online class that I have really enjoyed and am using them a lot more now. I have been concentrating on filling in the gaps where I'm missing one the "trio" that blend well. I only have a couple refills so far. I am learning which colors I will use the most, and starting with those first.

I have many... I use them all... I want more! I use them all the time and have yet to need a refill. I use icopic.com and oozak.com and carpediemstore.com to buy mine when they are around $4 a piece. Enough is never enough! LOL
Tricia, eeeeek! That's a lot of $! Have you tried iCopic.com?
I now have refills in all the skin tones and my fav colors, as I tend to use those up faster. I have about 20 refills. I try to buy enough for free shipping. I always end up getting extra nibs...I go through those like water!
I'd love to take an online class...do you think it's worth the $?

BUMMER all three don't supply NZ. Never mind :O) Hopefully I won't need to worry about refills for sometime and maybe by then NZ has got smart and will have a local supplier.
I have a ton of sketch and also a ton of original Copics. My hubby was sweet and got me 2 of the 72 sets for Christmas last year but in the original Copics. I could have traded them back for the sketch but I also love the small tips on the original Copics. I have found several I don't have. I always want more...I love the refills. I got a few more of some of my fav colors today at a Stamp Expo for $5.25. Bargain. I only wished I had my list of what I have so I could have bought more. I am a Copic Junkie. I did take the Copic class last year too and met Marianne Walker. She was our instructor. So much fun and tons of information.

Woo hoo for Copics! SO happy to hear that someone was able to take advantage of the sale
I have a mix of Ciaos and Sketches, I prefer Sketch, they do seem to last a lot longer too!
I'd say I have about 60 markers, but 22 of them need refills right now, lol!
Buying in 3's do work best, especially for skin colors and in the greys for black coloring. I manage to do a lot of shading with just 1 or 2 colors, because of refills and lack of other colors - I'm always creating a new color combo everyday because of this, lol!
I too just dipped my toes into the Copic pool. They are a lot of fun!! I refuse to pay full price, so I only pick up a few here and there when I have coupons, or find a killer sale! Now my problem is storage. I saw somewhere online a cute little cubbie from Studio 3 Solutions that would be a dream to have, but they are no longer in business. Anyone see anything like that anywhere else?
As my friend Kim mentioned above, we hit a killer deal at the Colorado Fall Papercraft Fest yesterday, and I walked out of there with 14 new colors for only about $60. My husband thinks I'm a little crazy for buying as many as I have, it must be a girl thing.

Goodness! Our refills are just a bit higher than the cost of the pen...around IA they are under $7. I think Dick Blick had them for $5.99US.

There are TONS of storage options...there are plastic cases, copic brad holders and wallets, etc. I have a scrap tool caddy with cardboard dividers, so I have sections for color groups. My friend, Amy, has a tool caddy from a hardware store. Do a search and you will find everything from paint buckets to hand-stitched holders.

Those are great ideas to narrow my search down! Thanks!!!
For those who are just starting out collecting copics and would like a good deal on sets - Scrap-mart carries a number of sets, including the smaller 6 pen sets. If you sign up for the monthly 40% off coupon, they are good on these sets. And you get free shipping too!

Yep- I was amazed when I discovered the copic sets weren't exempted from the coupon, but they weren't! You can only use the 40% off on one item a month, so that's why it is great for the sets.
I just got into copic coloring not too long ago. Probably been collecting copics for about 4months now, hehe. I have about 30 something, and still growing, haha. I bought most of mine at oozak.com and carpediemstore.com and both offers free shipping if you spend $50 on copic sketch markers. I'm not sure if they ship international. I haven't bought copics for awhile now, been doing alot of stamp shopping instead, lol. Need some stamp images to color, you know, hehe. I still haven't found a way that i like to store my copics. So right now, they're kinda all over the place. Sometimes Michael's have them on sale (40% off) and when that happens I buy atleast $20 worth, hehe. I still have a lot of practicing to do to get my coloring to look good.
I'm lucky my partner is a handyman/cabinet maker/builder ....
I've placed a ordered today for 1 wooden box made up of 20 little boxes,
Like a pencil holder but bigger, I can't find anything with 20 sections that will fit say 15/20 markers in each.... You can see I'm looking forward to having the full collection!!
It needs to be easy to move around as I do most of my colouring in the lounge with the family then back to my room to create cards. So it must have handles too.
I'll post a photo when its finished.. Wish me Luck :O)

Make sure there's an order form when you do post pix, LOL!
I may have mentioned earlier that I was recently at a paper-craft festival and found Copic sketch markers there for only$4.25 each. It just dawned on me to check out the website of the people I bought my markers from, and sure enough, it looks like they are selling them online for only $4.59 and refills for $5.39. Look here. The company is called After Midnight Art Stamps. I'm not sure how much shipping is.

Did you sign up for Michael's email updates? They often have bonus coupons attached. The ones that say "40% (sometimes 45%) off your entire purchase of artist's pens, pencils, markers" can be used on copics! Just thought I would mention it.

Awww...the M's by me do not carry Copics, sure wish they did!
