Nothing better than a day of stamping to keep out of the rain! See everyone in just three short hours.

Gayla - Stamp with Vintage Photo distress oxides and go over image with water brush. Finish petals with Barn Door oxide ink.

Can whoever made the shoebox card with the yellow balloon with red polka dots on the front, please give me the directions (dimensions and scoring) for the folded piece in the center of the card? Thanks!

Default Spring Get-Together Feedback (Warning! It's a long one!)

Overdue! Overdue! Overdue!

So sorry I haven't provided feedback on the Spring get-together sooner than today. And please bear with me for the length of this post.

I returned this year after a few years away and was glad I did. I recognized quite a few faces, and made some new stamping friends.

What I liked:
.....the food was yummy!
.....the quality and diversity of the cards was great (as I remember)
.....the helpfulness and friendliness of all
.....the post from Linda about what to do when we arrived
.....the swaps! They moved right along and the quality & diversity of the
items were top-notch (yet again)
.....getting not just one, but two door prizes! thank you to those who
brought one to make them happen
.....the gift swap - I didn't participate, but I always love seeing what the
gifts are

Thoughts:
- I felt a bit rushed in the morning table session, probably because of the announcements in the beginning. I'm not sure what, if anything, can change about that because the announcements are necessary.
- I was at a table of 8 that should have been 9, and one of the absent shoebox project didn't have all of its pieces. This was disappointing. I think a better way to handle this situation in the future would be to just not include the shoebox projects for people if they aren't there. I realize that the people took the time to put them together and get them to someone, and I get that stuff happens so people can't attend at the last minute, but it was disappointing.
- I really appreciated the step-by-step instructions that some shoebox projects included. I neglected to do that myself, but will do my best to include them for the next gathering. Even if the person putting the project together thinks they're not necessary, some of us find them very helpful, if nothing more than to keep us on track. It also helped me a lot in the afternoon when we were at our second table and the people who made the shoebox project weren't at the same table.
- I love getting a door prize, and getting two this time was a real treat! I think it takes up a lot of time - and takes away from the gift swap as well. Linda, I know you don't want to store any extra stuff, but one suggestion I have to cut down on some time with the door prizes is to keep it to one round and save the rest for the next gathering. That's probably not going to be a very popular suggestion, but there it is.
- Since I've commented a couple of times about feeling rushed and the swaps and door prize distribution and gift swap taking up time, would extending the length of the gathering by an hour be possible? That way you (Linda) wouldn't have to be talking over people packing up/saying their goodbyes/walking out.

Phew - thank you to those who are still reading this! I really did enjoy the day and was so glad I returned (finally) and participated in a couple of the swaps.

Thank you to the ladies who headed-up the tables and the swaps.
Thank you to the ladies who helped with the setting up and the cleaning up.
Thank you, Jean, for manning the kitchen.

And THANK YOU, Linda for all the hard work you put into this. It takes a lot of commitment, time and energy to prepare and host an event of this magnitude. I don't know how much actual enjoyment you get from it, and I realize that I didn't say thank you enough, but I truly do appreciate everything you do twice a year to put these gatherings together.

I'm still behind in following up but am sending some notes today.

I seem to have the bulk of someone's goodie bag but not the whole thing. I'm guessing it was left at the table with the M&Ts.

Is it yours?

I was talking with a few other swappers about an idea for the next swap. What about a trade for "leftover" unused Christmas cards, not cards you need to make, but ones you have already made, but have left over, but can't send out again to the same people.

Since there are usually only 2 sheets of each type in a package of designer series paper, I would like there to be consideration given to dividing the group size for any swap which has a large number of participants into subgroups of 11 (which would be making 12 to include one for the door prize). This way if you wanted to use a 4"x 5 1/4" piece of DSP you wouldn't have to buy multiple packs of that DSP especially if that is the only print in the pack you liked or you decide late on a project and don't have time to order additional DSP.Also if I didn't have to make 28 of any one swap, I might consider participating in another swap.
Just a thought.

I hear what you're saying about the DSP, Christine, but unfortunately life doesn't happen in groups of eleven. I know swaps are all about being the same but here are my thoughts on that:

Use a complementary paper from the same pack
Create your own backgrounds with stamping
Drop out of a swap before the deadline if it is becoming too large

We do have participants who enjoy making and swapping as many cards as they can and, in fact, participate in all the swaps.

I would be glad to break in half swaps that get too big but who decides what "too big" really is?!

So, let me gauge some interest here.

Catherine suggested a swap of "last year's Christmas cards". She and I finally had a chance to talk and I now understand the kernel of the idea.

Say you have 8 cards left from last year that you didn't send because you made too many. You'd bring those cards and trade them one-for-one for cards also laid out. I feel that we could use the tables along the windows once swaps are completed.

Is this something you're interested in?

I've got loads of Christmas/holiday cards leftover from over the years. I'd be interested in trading, but would also be willing to donate some to a worthy cause. Could the 'church ladies' use some?

Oftentimes people offer a choice of two colors during a swap or use related but different DSPs . It doesn't bother me if the cards aren't always identical. I often use them as samples or to CASE.

Thank you for the feedback on being able to use similar paper vs having to have each one of the swap items identical. This will definitely make my prep easier.

Another idea for a swap is rather than stating a topic (ie "Love, Marriage, Anniversary") for the swap, make it a swap using a certain stamp set, die cut set or a punch.

I believe This is tricky to do since so many ladies love so many companies. Not everyone buys from SU or FSJ or Any of the other well known stamp companies. I don't know if this particular swap style has been tried in the past, but there could be an amazing stampset that only one or two, people have chanced upon. I do like your thinking outside of the box! It's nice to see/hear new ideas.
(Hope I've not stepped on toes, Linda!)
