CNY Stampers Get Together
Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse, NY
Do join us at our next Central New York Stampin' Get Together.
Cost – $25.00 per person ($26 via PayPal). Your registration must be paid no later than noon on Thursday, September 29. Mail your registration form and payment to me (info is in the registration form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. Here’s what’s planned.
Mandatory Swap(s) (just one of these is mandatory) – You’ll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and you’ll have plenty of notice since the deadline is well in advance of the event. Participating in at least one of these four swaps (see below) is part of the “price” of admission so everyone must participate in a swap (plus the shoebox table project, also required). You can, however, participate in any one, some or all of these swaps. Each of these swaps will include a +1 for a door prize. There are also two optional swaps.
• NVR Card Front Swap - Final Count - 24
Ginni (ginnijay) will give you some guidance on this swap. See Post #9.
• Recipe Swap – Final Count - 21
Maria (Maria3) will provide more information about 6x6 recipes. Info is in Post #18.
• ATC Swap – Final Count - 24
Diane (diane617) will tell you more about Artist Trading Cards. Check Post #8.
• SUO Demo Quality* Swap – Final Count - 20
Check with Janet (evilQmom) on this. See Post #15.
*This means only current Stampin’ Up! products can be used but you don’t need to be a demo to participate.
Mandatory Shoebox (Table) Project – Bring your idea and all the supplies (precut but not prestamped or prepunched) needed for making your project with a small group. Again, please use quality products. We’ll break the shoebox table projects into small groups. TABLES -- There will be three tables of 8 and two tables of 7. You will need to plan on the larger count because you won't know which size table you're at until you arrive. So, please make 8 shoebox project kits to share along with 4 completed projects. The 8 does include one to make for yourself. The four extra completed shoebox projects are for door prizes, hostess thank you, and one for your table so that everyone can follow it for directions. Participation in the table shoebox project is mandatory. This project will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s). 3D projects are also welcome. Whatever the project, please plan that it take no more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + make up xx packets of materials needed to make your project. Make these something you’d be thrilled to get yourself.
Optional Swaps – These swaps are completely optional so it’s up to you if you want to play. These will also be +1 swaps.
• 3D Swap – Final Count - 13
Kay (stamperkay) will tell you about this one in Post #11.
• Twisted Swap – Final Count - 17
Pat (Scraphead) will tell you about this in Post #10.
• Christmas Tag Swap – Final Count - 26
Peg (peggles13) will tell you about this new swap in Post #17.
Food – Please indicate on the registration sheet the food item you will bring to share. Please be specific; don’t just say “food”. Ideas: breakfast items, lunch items, including salads, desserts and snacks. We love to try your food specialties! Bottled water and coffee will be provided.
Make & Take for All – Our CNY gatherings always feature several large group Make & Takes, so if you would prefer to provide one instead of making a food item or along with one, please tell me.
“Garage Sale” – Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. Current Stampin’ Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but we can’t be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.
Goodie Bags – for everyone! Everyone will leave with a bag of fabulous goodies. Goodie bags will all have the same value with possible variations in colors, etc.
Door Prizes– Donations from our own group are always welcome so let me know if you’d like to make a door prize donation and what it is. We will be awarding the +1’s from all of the swaps and the extras from the shoebox projects as door prizes.
50/50 Raffle – Besides garage sale shopping, bring a few dollars and get in on the 50/50 raffle. The winner will take home half the proceeds, while the other half will be used to purchase door prizes for the next CNY event.
Gift Swap – You don’t have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a gift related to our stamping passion. Everyone who brings one will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If it’s something you’d like to take home, it’s probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. At the request of many, we will return to a “wrap it any way you want” swap and “stealing” will be encouraged. REMEMBER: Stamping-related!!!
Other Stuff – Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can’t stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! You will want lots of adhesive.
Other things to remember: We're not running a race so SPEED is not the intent of the day. It is supposed to be a FUN day of stamping not seeing whether you can be the first one done. If you're done first, you will have ample opportunity to visit with your stamping friends or graze at the food tables. Please also remember to be POLITE when "passing"...and I don't mean passing a stamp. The day will end when it ends and pushing ahead of someone won't get you out the door any faster.
Make and wear a nametag with your name and your SCS name so that we know you on sight. There will be a nametag contest again so keep that in mind when you’re creating yours. Looking at everyone’s nametags is a great way to meet new stamping friends.
Don't forget your camera.
Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment ($26 via PayPal) by 5 pm on Thursday, 9/29. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you in early November.
Swap Etiquette -- Since we will all be swapping at least one item (card fronts -- info in post #x9, demo quality card fronts -- post #15, recipes -- post #18, and/or ATCs -- post #8 ), I found some good general guidelines on SCS (which also apply to the optional swaps noted in posts 10, 11 & 17). I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!
These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe".
1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use at least one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.
2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Avery labels work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.
3) The only one of these swaps requiring all current Stampin' Up! products is the demo quality swap. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock!
4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!
5) Swap sizes: NVR card front & DQ -- smaller than 4.25 x 5.5, please. Tags at least 2.5x4. Recipes still 6x6.
Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!
Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!
Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. There should be a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more.
So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack a sandwich. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!
Drinks -- There will be bottled water and coffee. If you must have soda, please BYO.
REMINDER: If you are bringing something that is to be served HOT, please remember that there is NO microwave available. We will again have access to a refrigerator and stove (with oven).
DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from mapquest.com or randmcnally.com. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is way less than a mile from the exit and will be on your right. After the exit, you will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right.
If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.
When the event closes, this first page is where you will find all the updated info on the swaps, etc. Info will be updated as registrations arrive and the final details should be posted around 10/3.
Gift Swap -- Returning to wrap it up as nice as you please. "Snatching" encouraged as part of the fun.
Tables -- Tables are assigned randomly when you arrive. If you really, really (really) need to be with your friend (I'm saying this more for the newbies), we will try to accommodate you but the random assignments really do make for a good way to make new friends. Plus, you and your friend(s) will have different projects to share. Well, unless you're randomly assigned to the same table. Then, you're welcome to ask someone at another table to switch with you.
Card front swap- NVR TOTAL which includes the doorprize----- 24
We are changing the SIZE of the swaps. Please make the fronts smaller --
either 4-1/8 x 5-3/8 OR 4 x 5-1/4. The smaller size will allow the fronts to be easily mounted to a full card if the recipient so desires.
Reminders about swap etiquette are listed in post #3.
TWISTED CARD
Twisted cards are humourous, so get your funny on.
Full card required, NVR on all but please made with good quailty card stock, at least 2 layers required embelish as much as you like, 1 is required.

Hi Arlene, as it stands right now, we will not be going until after Thanksgiving, my daughter and family are coming to spend it with SIL family, so no point going down until later.
Thank you for the reminder Linda. I won't be able to attend as this is my best-friend's daughters wedding day & since I'm doing the wedding cake, I guess I better show up. I hope you have a great turnout and TONS of fun. Thanks again. keep me posted on future events.
