SCS Innisfail - July 20, 21 & 22nd, 2007
Come join your SCS sisters in Innisfail, Alberta, Canada on July 20, 21 and 22nd. This is a time for everyone to enjoy some quality stamping time, share techniques and toys, and just get a break....Payment deadline is June 30th, so mark your calendar to reserve your space. There is a limit of 20 people for the whole weekend. If you like, after the maximum is reached, you can put yourself on a waiting list. There are also 3 spots left for Sunday only.
bsdemonstrators (Sandi) and myself will be coordinating the event with some much needed help from toobusystamping (Christine) and Calgary Cowpoke (Gayle)
Location: Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church Hall in Innisfail (15min south of Red Deer, 2 hours south of Edmonton, and 1 hour north of Calgary)
Events:
Friday July 20th at 6pm - will kick off with a Pot Luck supper. This is a time to get set-up, have a bite to eat and visit with all of your fellow stampers.
Saturday (9 - 9) and Sunday (9 - 4) - We will be doing shoe box swaps during the day, and working on our own projects
Cost: $20 per person. Please send a cheque to ensure your space to the following address. Please make sure to write your SCS name somewhere so I can match them up:
Robin Laderoute
4919 - 48 Street
Innisfail, AB
T4G 1N1
For Sale: There will be a space set-up for a sales table, so bring your goodies and be prepared to deal
Shoebox Swaps: Bring a full card project or a 3D item to share with others in your group. We will be having groups of 5. PM me to add you to the shoebox swap. Each participant will prepare 6 packages. 4 for the other participants (excluding yourself) and 2 extras in case someone needs an extra piece. Card kits don't have to include envelopes. Please put each kit in a zip log baggie to make it easier to keep the pieces together. Then we can just grab a bag and go for it. We will take time in each group to present our project, you don't need to demo it unless there is something that is better shown than explained. It will also help to include instructions for the project in the box that includes your SCS and your IRL name.
General Swaps and Secret Swaps: Anne Marie has taken up the challenge of coordinating. See Post #20 to find out more.
Peggy and Diane Pity Party: These two fine ladies will be madly working on their swaps for convention. Lend them a hand, or just stand back and snicker. Either way it will be worth the time. They will only be with us on Saturday.
Image Wish RAK: See Post 346 on Page 9 of this Forum
Ribbon Share - Post #433 - Page 11
Designer Paper share - Post #472 - Page 12
Bulk Orders - Peggy is gathering orders for Cuttlebug items and ATG tape
Accomodations: The best place to stay right now in Innisfail is the R&R. The cost is under $100 per night. We have a new hotel being constructed right now, I don't know the completion date. I'll keep an eye on it. If you like a larger center, there are lots of hotels in Red Deer, and there is plenty of shopping, including a Michael's and a Scrapbookers Paradise.
Restaurants - we have everything here from fast food to fine dining to good old small town restaurants with wonderful omelettes.
Shopping - you can take in the stores in Red Deer. We also have a small scrapbooking store in Innisfail that has some supplies of paper, embellishments etc.
So - who's with us? I can tell you that we don't have the energy of Peggy and Diane, so it might not be as lavish as Edmonton, but it will be a great time to visit and work.
Just post a note and I will keep up with the names. As soon as I know the final details, I will let everyone know.
Friday Pot Luck (please include a recipe for the dish you are bringing to put beside the dish):
1. laderme - Chicken Salad Wraps
2. toobusystamping - pita chips with dip; desert squares
3. Sandi - quickies
4. Peggy - Sex in a pan

Oh, Robin, I *sooo* what to do this but it is the weekend before convention and I think Pegs and I will be running around with our heads cut off, trying to finish off swaps........
I was floored to think of another gathering only a month away,
but it is really 2 months!
psych me out robin!
no really though, it is only a month of "mommy time"
so I will have to see.
I will probably pay either way to secure a spot.
... but I will let you know about helping out with anything other than chat and chocolate.
Family first, right?

:( I have to go to a wedding that weekend. :( Drat.
I'm *sure* that once you explained to the bride how much *f*u*n* scsers are, that she would postpone her wedding for you to come to Innisfail too.
You can always count on people to do the *right thing* if you give them the chance.
remind her to always ask herself, "W.W.SCSER.D?"
(what would a Splitcoaststampergirl do?)
she'll get it.
trust me.

I looked on that weekend and luckily my dh is OFF !! That means it looks likely that I will be a YES. Just gotta double check and see if there might be something that didn't get put on the clendar!! I can hardly wait. Let me know if there is anything you need help with. I am totally good with helping -- somehow. I've never organized a swap or anything -- but if you fill me in on duties or something I'd be willing to give it a try, maybe??!!
after much thought about this....i have decided...
SEE YOU IN INNISFAIL!
i figured I needed a break from the convention swaps, and I will just go on saturday just to visit.
and as always, if you need help with ANYTHING (you know I have a loud voice), let me know and I will do whatever you need me to do (except sing or dance and anything that involves with toonies and loonies in my pants )
Count me in Robin. That will give me a chance to stop in on that friend I have in Innisfail (like I needed an excuse anyways) Now to go call my cousin n Sylvan and see if I can crash at his place.
Well... she is a fellow stamper... hmmmmm.
Of course Harry Potter 7 comes out that weekend too and while I can read in between ceremony & reception but I can't read while stamping. Guess I better not risk it. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to calgary.

I really need to consider...
ds is old enough to go to a last chance, historical occasion, 7th book release party .
and because he may even remember it... I really wanted to do that for him/with him.
we love harry!
now I am conflicted.....
thanks H, for reminding me tho...

General swap: Can be card fronts or full cards whatever works best for your project. ALL + 2 means however many spots for each swap group (Inspiration, technique, 3d) +2. (eg: if 7 people signs up for inspiration, then it will be 7+2) The +2's are optional and are for
Sandi & Robin as a "Thank You" for all their efforts in
hosting us - "codependant, enabling, stamp-a-holics"
OK I did the final count a day early as I'm headed out to the lake in a few hours. Hope nobody minds.
3D (anything but a card ~ NOT to be confused with the secret gift exchange!): (all+2) -final count - 6
I'm so in as well. I work Friday, so I can't make it this day though. Are we just doing a shoe box swap? Or others???
My creative juices are still flowing from the weekend.
I would love to come as well! Just need to check the calendar to see what's up for that weekend (other than being at the lake heehee). Hmm wonder how far it is from Pigeon Lake to Innisfail? hmmm
I will get back to y'all this week!

Peggy - 1 1/2 hours in the Mini, 2 hours for the rest of us. LOL. I'm glad you decided to take the break and come visit us. I could tell you to bring your stuff and finish it while visitting, but you know it probably won't happen....but maybe if you just assemble????
Charming - let me know what you finally decide, it would be great if you decided to come down again. I can make sure you get to your bus.
Champagne for breakfast! Yippeee! (well maybe not as our projects may suffer and heaven knows I don't need any happy juice to get me in a good mood on a stampin day with my buds) We'll make sure we celebrate your special day in style.

To answer some questions:
No theme for this event, just some quality stampin time, very low key.
Shoe Box Swaps (full cards or 3D items) - Because I am expecting us to be a smaller group, let's sign up in groups of 5. Same format as Edmonton. I toyed with trying different formats, but I can't seem to make them work in my own mind. So send me a pm to sign up.
Swaps - AnneMarie - if you would like to take charge of this, great, maybe with the help of someone else who can handle the last minute questions while you are vacationing. If you would like to do this, plan away!
Pot Luck Supper - let me know what you are planning to bring and I will add it to the list.

Bad news - the little tea house at our historical village is already booked. I tried to get them to bump the wedding shower to let us in, but to no avail. Now I am off to find another place. Everyone keep their fingers crossed!

I'm not betting on Christine this time - I just know it will cost me big time in the end. Besides, the more she brings the less I have to worry about forgetting anything.
Robin, I am interested, just not too sure how it will work, since we will be on holidays at that time. Probably just in Fawcett, working on our new garage, but still busy.
Regarding a place to do this? Have you considered checking out Hotel/Motels where they would have a large room available for something like this. Since we have to pay for a hotel/motel anyways, why not combine the two, and then everyone can stay at the same place. And also if it is set up right, we can stamp until the "cows come home". And also if you can get it cheap enough possible food can be arranged with the Hotel/Motel.
Just a thought. My girlfriend in Calg. does this for sewing retreats. Combining them can make things easier.
robin.. Im probably gonna come without any stamping stuff... probaby some food, and whatever stuff people want me to bring.. eg: coasters, tin, paper, etc.
Im soley there to harass people and watch people stamp. I'll be the entertainment hehehheh
A.M: let me know if you need help with organzing the swap.. oh, i would like to join the swap as well... *need to redeem my bugly watercolor card*
in fact, sandi and robin, if youneed help in anything let me know
I like this! Also, with the number of rooms we would rent, they may be able to give us a break on the room for stamping.
I don't know if you have co-ops there (food shopping co-ops), but in Calgary, they offer their space (often a large boardroom, and some are extremely large) for free to any community group that books it first. You may want to look at that too.

Ladies - I'm investigating hotels in Red Deer, and some venues here in Innisfail. One problem is that I can't find a hall in Innisfail that has air conditioning! It is July after all, so that has me concerned.
Before I head too far down this road, I should stop assuming about cost and just ask.
How much would you be comfortable paying for this event? This would cover the meeting room only. You can post your answer here, or PM me.
Clarifications:
Potluck is for supper, and last time we had leftovers to last the whole weekend. We just nibbled on it and so we didn't have to go out.
Will we cap the attendance? I am hoping not, but I will let you know asap
Ok I'm thinking no more than $25-$30 hopefully less! But do what you can!
Also, how awful would it be if I brought my kids to the dinner on Friday night? I don't know what hubby's schedule is like that weekend (too far out!) and I'm not the type to dump my kids on someone else ALL WEEKEND LOL! So I was hoping to only have to get someone to watch them 1 out of the three days as I'm hoping DH could cover at least 1 of the days. If we'd rather no kids that's absolutely cool. I'll just skip dinner and be there with bells on Saturday morning!
