I have done mtn bike races in your neighborhood (Waywayanda, Ringwood, Jungle Habitat in West Milford)... looking forward to meeting you guys!

Looks like I am going to get there by 84, 17, 17A, 94.

I'm not if this thread is the type of cycling you and Heidi do but you may find it interesting:

Yes, Yes! The more the merrier! I am flexible glad to have the participation!

Wow, Waywayanda - that's me, that's me - and right by West Milford next town down. Small world! Once you take 94 down through Warwick, NY you will pass the car dealerships and bowling alley and Pennings Farms and then you will see Warwick Rental (large equipment stuff on the Left) after that you make a LEFT onto Barret Road and take to end make a RIGHT onto Waywayanda and then you take that down you will see a gas station and red store at corner (RED's) keep bending and road turns into Breakneck Road you will pass post office and a block later is the club house on LEFT large parking lot. :-) Have I mentioned I am excited!

Not to be a pain, but I have a few questions/clarifications:

1. Final count says 16, however attendees = 18 (with two people not having turned in their forms). Which number is correct? I want to make sure I have enough swaps.

2. Shoebox swap: Do we make enough for all 16/18 attendees, or will that number be smaller? Does everyone go home will all the same shoebox projects?

Thanks for the clarification! :-D

Do you have directions from central jersey, from the Parkway, or route 80, or 287 or whatever major road you're near? I can do a mapquest but those directions are always screwy.

I have the same question - do we know the number at our table yet (or maybe I am blind and didn't see it on the first page)?

I think we should just cut for 20. This way if anyone messes up there can be an extra kit handy, and if there are any leftovers u just take it home and make the quick n' easy card at home.

Michele ~ Correct me if I'm wrong, but the shoebox project is only for our table. We bring 4 completed projects plus materials to make 7 (the table size). The swaps we bring enough for all in our category.

I believe that the Shoebox Swap will be completed in our table sized groups, BUT everyone there will get a chance to make everything. Which means the number of participants, plus the 4 completed, and the one for the table....does that make sense? I don't know our completed number, but I think think of it as 25 'kits' to create your project.

Hi all,

Just seeing some posts now. Please note - you will only make the shoebox swaps for your table. So please bring enough for 8 people to make and this way if an extra is needed it is there. Plus four completed cards.

You will not make each shoebox swap because we will be doing the technique make and takes in the morning that will take some time and you will get to make copies of the techniques shown. I don't think we could fit in 18 cards in the afternoon hours. ;-)

There are two less people for the cardfront swaps, my mom and a newbie! I am doing their shoebox swaps but could not do their card fronts, just to much to do. So 16 needed for cardfront swap. All others are correct.

For those doing a technique make and take bring enough for 20 people to make and also a few copies for yourself to make depending on how you show your technique.

If you have questions, please ask - let me know if I didn't explain something well. I have also gotten the supplies for the goodie bags! I think they are pretty cool! There will also be table center pieces for door prizes or table prizes and don't forget your SCS nametag so that we know you on sight and also for the contest for a cool prize!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!
Michele

We won't all be doing all cards? Well that's sort of a bummer....I like making everything that everyone designs...can't we just have the kits and if we don't get to it we can create them at home? I mean I am pretty fast when it comes to making cards that are already designed, I will be completed with my table and bored by the end of the day knowing how I have been at other shoebox swaps to be honest...

I too was under the impression that we would be making everyone's cards. That's how its been at all the shoeboxes i've attended. People rotate around the room and create everyone's cards

Ok, we can change this up, if Michele can post the instructions on how many shoebox / packages to make that would be great. This part is new to me and we will eliminate two of the make and takes and do more of the shoebox swap stuff! That's cool, I am flexible just post instructions, please! Thanks!

Hope everyone has a great evening! I too love to make as many cards as possible!

At the SBS I've been to we tried to design our shoebox cards to take about 10 minutes or less. Everything pre-cut and ready to go.

Sure thing!.
Here it is:

- You design a card, this will be the card from which we copy from- and make sure to cut out 20-25 kits for everyone to replicate the same card. ( Make sure to include, all the pre-cut cardstock and any embellies, bring the stamps u used, and ink too)

- I suggested 20-25 kits since there are 18 of us attending. It;s good to have extras in case someone makes a mistake, or you miscount with the supplies.

- Design a card that would not take more than 10 minutes to assemble.

- All the cards are placed in one location on a table(s) (depending on the setup) and stay there. We do a round-robin and create everyone elses cards. At the end of the day we should have 18 different cards!

Some place a card kit into individual zip baggies. This way each person take a zip bag and all their pieces to create that card are there. While others organize according to card parts. For ex. one bag with all the card bases, another bag with the embellies, another bag with DP etc. It's all in the shoebox and you just take a piece from each bag and assemble ur own card.

It's up to you what u want to do. Although creating individual card kits is a PITA ( pain in the A**), it is much more organized and easy to pick up what creating at the SBS.

Does this make sense?

It's so much fun. People design things differently and it's also fun using stamps from different companies!

I like this idea! I already have my shoebox card design in mind, but I was a little reluctant about having to bring so many punches with me, so having everything precut would be perfect!

No envelopes required unless it is not a standard sized card. Standard size is 4.25 x 5.5.

Hi All,

I have one table that I need to have stay together at their table for several reasons. Since everyone will package their stuff (Sue - just bring me your stuff and I will bag it - that goes quick for me) That table I would like to gather the swaps and let them complete at their table I think it will be less stressing for them.

Thanks so much for all your assistance!

The day is about fun and stamping and no stress, whatever everyone is able to finish they will and the rest are goodies to take home! It's a happy day of meeting people, food, laughs and of course stamping!

Hugs,
Michele

Ok, my 2 cents, this is not the way it has gone at the shoebox swaps I have been at. The one in Syracuse last week, we were stamping past lunch with 9 at our table, had to squeeze lunch in quickly, and then had many make & takes after that (6, I think), plus swaps, plus gift exchange, plus door prizes. There just wasn't enough time. If we do all the shoebox projects, that will affect the quality of the cards, because they HAVE TO fit into the 10 min time slot (I think mine are usually more like 15-20 min). I have a cute card I used for Syracuse I was thinking about doing again, but I just can't do it for 18 or more ppl. The design isn't fancy, but I just don't have 18 of the "special" embellishment (which is the focus of the card), so I would have to go back to the drawing board.

That being said, I will roll with whatever the majority decides. But then the number of finished projects need to be rethought. We would not need 2 finished cards for doorprizes, since everyone would have a copy. Plus is the hostess making the cards as well (the point of the extra for hostess is if the hostess doesn't plan to sit down and make herself)? Sorry for being nitpicky, but ahhhh, quite a surprise this morning when the shoebox project number jumps from 8 to 20-25!

One more thing - FYI - the hostesses card copy last week went up on a display board for everyone to take pictures. Although we didn't get to take all of them home, we did get a chance to find out who made a neat card, take pictures, ask questions, possibly recreate at home.

Another idea - shoebox packet swap. In the past, sometimes we had the option to bring extra shoebox kits, and once you were done with your table, you could swap your extra kits with someone else at another table. That way, if you just love another card, it is possible to find that person and swap a kit with them.

This post really confused me! I didn't know there were two Michele's, and with one 'l'.

I'm not usually one to jump in on things like this, but I do agree that prepping for 20 shoebox swaps is A LOT and with only approx two weeks left until the event, I better get cookin'. I will go along with whatever is decided, it just seems like a lot to me. I'm really looking forward to it, you girls have certainly put a lot of time and effort into it and I thank you for that!!!

Maybe different people stamp at different speeds, I know that both Michele (delfinius) and I attended a swap on Ohio, we created 20 (I believe) cards, PLUS we had a Demonstration by Kristi from Hanna Stamps, lunch, prizes, door prizes, chatted a LOT...plus we used the Big Shot on several creations....and we still had time lol....In fact I left the swap and went shopping over at Joanne's PLUS we also swapped images ;) There were a few people that didn't complete all cards, but those that didn't took the already packaged kit home with them and we posted pictures or they took pictures to create their card by. That way everyone had the chance to create and see everything....hope that helps It also might depend on the size of the swap....dunno...just I have been to several like this is all, and it seems to work best.

Default What do you think?

Ok, what if we did the card front swap in two groups - this way everyone only has to make 1/2 the number? The other ones are small so they are fine.

Then, what if we do go back to the original of making 8 packets for the shoebox swap. All attendees do 8, then there will be 2 for make and takes so that is 10 cards to make right there. Plus, I will do 2 additional shoebox swaps. I will NOT be making the cards that day - I will be there more to help others. So then there will be a total of 12 for everyone to make.

I think it is best to stay with the table format so you create with who you are sitting with and we can break out the shoebox swaps well then. I have done it this way in the past and has worked well.

Let me know your thoughts! I think it is a good compromise but let me know!

Michele

I can agree with cutting the card fronts into two groups, that's fine by me, but as I am sure you have noticed, I disagree with table format, there will not be enough to occupy me for a day. Plain and simple truth. Think about it, a 10-10-20 class lasts about 2 hours, if that, and you are making 10 cards in 10 minutes or less in the same format...right? So a tables worth of cards and some demos is not enough to occupy that many stampers for a day. I am sorry if it may seem like I am begin difficult, its just that I know there are swaps where there are 40+ attendees and everyone makes kits for each person at those...not sure why we can't do the same, we have less people then most shoe box swaps I believe, or possibly that is just SCS started SBS.
