Lydia, just found out my boys have a competition in Austin Dec 1-2. Have you hidden any caches? We might have a little time to cache.

I'm so excited to have found this thread. I had never even heard of "geocaching" until a couple of weeks ago. I was on a plane and desperately bored (had to turn off my iPad for boarding and takeoff), so I read the inflight magazine. Was surprised and interested to read about it. Apparently there are THOUSANDS here on the island. I think I will have to see if I can get DH to take up a new hobby with me. (I have absolutely no sense of direction! LOL)

That's AWESOME!! We added 20 states on our cross country trip in 2011. We're hoping to go back and finish the Northern states in a year or two. I can't wait to hear all about your trip!

YESSSS! I started today! I'm so excited! And thankfully a local cacher has published a few new ones within walking distance of my house today so I have a few "safe" ones.

DH and I just got back from getting our first for the month! I've got a bit of a backlog of found caches I need to log but will get on that this afternoon so I can see my new souvenir. Good idea saving some close ones in case you have a tight schedule!

Groundspeak published this calendar a few days ago. The picture on each day is the souvenir for that day. I printed it out as a reminder to get a cache.

Poppa and I "thought" about doing this years ago but never followed through.I spend last week in OREGON WITH SHANON and went with her,so now I am HOOKED!

She had found a Travel Bug and I brought it home to GA.

I contacted the owner and he gave me permission to just let it "visit" caches here and take it on my Disney Cruise in September and hopefully leave it on Disney's Island.

How far is James having to go to get his??

started geocaching last month while on vacation with my nephew. Just found one in my neighborhood a few days ago. Next month the 9 year old I take care of is tracked out of school and we plan to spend a lot of time searching.

Headed out in the morning with my grandson. Have 10 caches picked out close to his house. That all look pretty easy so hopefully we can find them.

Sorry, got busy and just saw this. I finished it! Got my last one this morning, so now I have all 31 souvenirs. But I don't think I'll do another streak. Some days it was a lot of fun and other days it was a PITA. Yesterday it was near 100* and we were trying to figure out where the closest P&G was. How did you do? Who here got all the days?

My hubby is getting ready to go get his 31st one. He's going to see how long he can keep up the streak. It's 108* here today, so I'm not sure he would be making a special trip for a cache if it weren't for the streak... but any time I remind him he's a tad crazy, he just mentions DTGD or HYCCT!

I just found this forum today. I have been a geocacher for several years, Txcachem, and a scs member for about 6 years since I became a SU demo. I never imagined the two paths would cross. This is great. I love geocaching when I am not in my craft room and my field name is just a play off of the great state that I live in and the second half encourages me to not give up until I "cachem"

Hey Tameria!

Fellow Texan!

Love that username - I'll go friend you over there!

I just finished my streak - we had an event cache at an ice cream place, which was perfect since it's 102 today! Misti - 108 - UGH!!

We have a cache here called The Rock That Rolls - it's so cool. It's a fake rock with a container embedded in it. The rules are that each finder has to take it and place it in a new location within 24 hours. It blends in everywhere so it's been out in the open at the Capitol, at Starbucks, in the medians of roads, you name it. It's SO fun. That showed up at the event today so I got two smileys!

The rule is it can't leave Austin. I've had it twice. It's a hoot.

One guy put it in my flowerbed in my front yard. He's a very prolific cacher that lives a few houses down from me.

Monday - a team of use are going to do a 5/5 - EEK. hope we don't die

Now that the streak is over, I'm going to try to fill in my d/t chart. After the 5/5 it should get easier.

Do you guys go to event caches? I've really met some awesome friends there. One of them is having me make cards for her

Superjen here on Splitcoast - who I've gotten to cache with - makes the most AWESOME cache swag. I keep trying to talk her into selling it.

You should do a copycat where you are. It's insanely popular. We have these north Austin/South Austin turf battles over it.

I had to go to geocaching.com to read the rules. My guys got really excited as I was reading it to them. We have a few geocachers in the area, but that might get some of them interested in it again. Plus, since this area is sooo small, my guys would have a good chance of getting it frequently!

That does sound like fun. I have not ever done anything like that. Idid just complete the 31 day challenge but an event sounds like a lotof fun too. I am actually not that far from Austin. I live in Seguin about 45 minutes to an hour away depending on traffic. I would love to meet some fellow cachers. I make my own swag as well. Unfortunately where I live the swag is very slim and none so it would be nice to see some different swag for a change. Let me know when the next event is, I might just have to gas up my jeep!!!

I will send you a link to the next event - I'd love to meet you! We should cache between here and there sometime - I'm in far south Austin so you're not that far. Our events are south-ish too

Yeah it's cool because you get a find each time, and the more daring the location the better!

Oh that might be great for us in the rural area too! James made all 31....but there were days when we were home on the mountain that it was quite a drive to get the cache for the day. So.....there sure won't be any 100 day stretch for him!

Just saw this thread on the Hope You Can Cling To.

I'm Jeks313. We've (the family and I) have been caching since Feb. and we are totally addicted. My 3 year old will tell strangers about the rules for geocaching.
