What a wonderful way of looking at life. I am going to try to send out more Thanksgiving Day cards this year. I've so very much to be thankful for.

Gee whiz! Who would've thought such a question would raise so much interest. It's kinda funny. I''m like a lot of you out there. I buy what I like 'cause sometimes by the time I get around to using it, it's already "out of style". But it is funny how many of us are liking or not liking so many of the same things.

I sent out about 8 Thanksgiving cards last year and was really proud of myself. I usually don't send any. I think I am going to give it another try this year!

I decided I was going to make something special for two of my grandsons who are really into Halloween. So I designed and made a Tic Tac Toe game for the boys- out of grungeboard, and using some of my dies I made the embellishments for the board. Also, I cut out circles of the grungeboard and glued three dimensional stickers with skulls and spiders on to them. There is a creepy house and tree made from shrink plastic, and gory looking letters that say "Enter". It is a tryptich with hinges made from grungepaper and then run through my Big Shot with an embossing folder and painted to look old. I honestly had so much fun making this thing, anticipating the looks on the faces of the two boys. I mailed the package off to them yesterday, and I can hardly wait to see the photos my d-i-l promised to take My niece LOVED it and asked me to make one for her to send to her step-nephew, so I have been working on it the last few days. It is so much fun playing with my toys.

Gosh, I have lots of the things listed here also!! There are some things I see though and think like digi-satmps (Google image line drawings are free!) and I never really understood the cupcake thing either...same with penants, never really caught on with me. I am fairly new to card making and remember making one that I just adored and someone commented "Oh, I remember when that style was popular" and it made me kind of sad I guess newbies like me are who keep bringing stuff back that y'all are tired of haha! I will say though, the big heads with no mouths creep me out!

I'm tired of seeing 30 companies' takes on the same image/trend. I'm tired of at least half of those companies producing images that don't 'fit' with that companies' general feel (ie: if SU! started putting out pin-up girls and realistic zombies, I think we'd all shake our heads...). I do think, though, that every type of image has it's place - for example, the big-headed kids (I think of The Greeting Farm first) are super cute on projects for my 6-year-old daughter & her friends, especially when you can colour them up to resemble said kid... but I'm not about to use those images on a card for, say, my mother or my husband. Also, I'm tired of 'styles' being trendy, and of seeing a zillion people trying to pull off a certain style, when only a handful of said people get it 'right', per se. An example of that would be the 'shabby chic' look - I love Melissa Phillips' work - but while I admire it, and enjoy looking at it, I know darn good and well to not even try it, because it's just not going to work!

Ok, I'm done ranting now. Thanks OP for a fun 'vent' thread - a lot of responses have been hilarious, most have made really good points, and it's very interesting to see everyone's point of view!

Oh yes - one more thing - who DOES decide on the trends, anyway?! I never understood how that worked in fashion, and I don't get it in stamping/scrapbooking/cardmaking, either! (lol)

I think one company may float an idea and if people start talking about it, everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Look at the pennants -- it was a possibility and now there's stamps all over the place!

I've decided that if I have paper that's 5 years old and stamps that are older but they still work for me, that's my trend.

I'm tired of companies telling me what I should like. Show me something and I'll make the decision.

I am over using glitter.
It is too messy for me. Now I use glitter pens when I want a little sparkle

by the time I got to the end of this thread I was laughing so hard I can't remember what it is that I was going to say I am over! Thanks for the laughs!

What I should be over is collecting rather than creating. I spend more time and money getting stuff rather then the same time creating and sending it to someone I care about!

In honour of the bird weekend here in Canada-cause I do not care for bird stamps but definitely love the sit down dinner type I am going to make a card and send it out to a friend-to let her know I am thankful to have her in my life!

Lori, I have paper than way more than 5 years old and used some just today -- and my stamps, have lots that are over 10 years old and from companies that went out of business years ago; still love 'em, still use 'em. Diane

That makes me sad and mad too somebody told you that. I hope they didn't mean it by the way it came out. It really came off as elitist didn't it? I hope they meant if gave them a moment of nostalgia and inspiration. I love my old styles. All these new hot trends are out and I am falling in love with styles that are ten years old. I wasn't even stamping then.

Inspiration is not a trend.

I would be so excited, lol. I have the largest SU order ever in history if SU released realistic zombies, lol. My DH would be making that order. !

Then the ten million other companies would come out with zombie stamps. By then I have burn out on zombie stamps. I am going blech, blech, and even more blech. In zombie language that means No More Repeat Images! !

This really is a fun thread! One thing I'm over is the Flowersoft stuff. However, I suspect that the reason is because of operator error. I cannot seem to figure out how to use the stuff but I see all the lovely cards out there and keep thinking I'll get it. Since I still don't get it, I'm now over it.

That is me to a tee! The shopping has gotten out of hand. I've been stamping for 3 years, and spending about $1000 a year! My cards cost me about $40 each right now. Must get self control!

Thanks, but it had more of a "Bless your heart" sort of tone to it (anyone ever lived in the South?) Like she walked away and snickered. I have not picked up a doily since that card! ha-ha

Absolutely you are a trend setter! Just go to the gallery and in the search box just type in "Doily" or "Hello Doily." You will get bunches of beautiful pictures of cards using the new Stampin' Up! doily stamp. So...see...you are in the "in" crowd.

I am Southern. I know that Bless Your Heart Southern sarcastic tone. Southerner's have two versions of Bless Your Heart. A good Southern girl knows both.

Get your doilies out and enjoy them. Like the other girls said they are in. I guess Lil' Miss Bless Your Heart is 120 years old or something since Doilies have been in since the Victorian Era! I bet Lil' Miss Bless Your Heart has been using them too. She was jealous. I bet your card was beautiful.

Doilies were 'in' about 13 years ago too so I bet that's what she was referring to and didn't know they're back! See, keep anything long enough and they will come back in style. So all my 'fibers' (aka yarn) and eyelets will be in again right? LOL I don't care, I use what I want and like. Hopefully that lady didn't think she was the stamping police.

Count me in as someone who doesn't want to see another stitch on a card.

I also don't like steampunk art - most of what I've seen people produce is scary looking. I think I've seen too many stumpunk pieces where a crown-wearing crow sits on top of the head of a clown. LOL

Count me in as just plain tired of trends. No matter where you look everything starts to look the same. This goes for owls, chandeliers, those big headed kids, bellas, etc. The big headed kid thing just cracks me up!

It isn't that I don't particularly like any of these things. It just gets boring when all the blogs, galleries and magazines are all filled with the same stuff. I stopped looking at Paper Crafts Mag for a long time, because every issue looked the same as the last. It is getting that way again.

The Copic trend is a bit under my skin right now. I see some beautiful coloring done with them, but when that is all everyone is doing, it's like wash, rinse, repeat......

This whole doily discussion makes me feel good. If I hang on to my "outdated" stuff, I am all set for when the trends recycle and make their way back around again, lol!

I know. Every time I read the thread title I keep thinking "Was I ever under it???"

So off to look for a hot air balloon stamp - I don't have one yet and I like Hot Air balloons.

That said, I did find this video that pokes fun at trends absolutely HYSTERICAL!!!

Put a bird on it
I will forever remember this video whenever I use a bird stamp. I love bird stamps, but I know for sure I would react exactly as the people in this video if a bird came in my house. "I am allergic!" Too funny....

Sometimes on the local radio station in Portland, the dj will say "Put a bird on it" out of the blue....cracks me up now. I never knew what he meant before this thread.
