P.S. Despite all the discussion over the past year about unmounting stamps, I had totally forgotten about using "plain" vinyl cling until I was cleaning one of my tabletops. There was a half sheet of this stuff, and I whacked myself alongside the head and went "DUH!"

You don't even need FOAM! That's what I like best! I've got all my stamps without FOAM now! Just Aleene's TIO&O. I get perfect images with no cushioning needed, AND I can fit 2 or more sets per CD case this way.

With this system do you stamp onto a hard service or use a cushion of some sort?
OK, stupid question here - will *any* vinyl do or is "vinyl cling" special in some way?
It seems the vinyl cling is special. I recall trying some other vinyl once and it didn't work.
Even tried rubbing it fast on my hair . Ya' know what you do with a balloon and it gets all static and sticks to things? That didn't work either.

Thanks for the quick response! Guess I'll have to go looking for it. I did check with the site you linked to. The price is great, but I hate to spend $4.75 to ship $1 in merchandise and I really do not need/want anything else right now...
Besides keeping the foam on the stamps when I unmount them, I take the label off the block and stick it on top of the foam. Then I just slide a thin layer of Alene's Tack it over and over again glue over the label. That way I have a picture of the stamp to look at thru the acrylic block when I'm stamping. Someone here on SCS posted this tip - and I have loved it!

Joannes sells the Tac-N-Peel. It works just as good as vinyl cling. I personally like the cushion on my stamps. I do not like stamping with just the rubber. I have a harder time with it. I use the stuff I buy from TAC. It is just as good as others and I have had no problems with it. I do not have to order it on-line or pay shipping costs.

I don't really consider it "cushion", but I almost always have a piece of chipboard (from the Creative Memories page protector packages) under so that I don't get ink on my my craft table. But it's not really a "cushion". And those that have gotten images from me through RAK (I sent a TON of Bella images out!) can attest to the nice, clean images I stamp. And I don't have to do it over and over to get that "good one", they are all "good ones"!

I've even tried the Graffix vinyl cling and it doesn't stick anywhere NEAR as well as the stuff used for the EZ Mount cushion. I've tried it and won't go back. In fact, I even had to re-unmount the stamps that had been mounted with cushion and basic vinyl cling because the cling part was horrible. It wouldn't even stick inside the CD case.
So.... actually, I DO need EZ Mount..

I tried using a vinyl cling product on the sticky foam back of a stamp, but after several stamp attempts (i was stamping a bunch of dots) the vinyl began to slip off the sticky part of the stamp. It was sliding all over - still clung to the acrylic block, but all gooey and sliding off the stamp foam itself. Is this a problem with the EZ mount?

I've never run into this with the EZ Mount. Actually, the only "problem" I've had with the EZ Mount cushion is when I accidentally laid my arm across the sticky back prior to putting the rubber onto it. Talk about STICKY! Seriously though, EZ Mount is well worth the $$ to me. And if you buy it more in bulk, you can get it for less than $4 per sheet. (I buy from this eBay seller: http://stores.ebay.com/Simple-Treasures-Collage) But... I'm just a happy customer and user of the stuff. (And I seriously did try to save money last year by trying the cheaper way.. which ended up costing me more because I had to unmount them again.)

the graphics cling really did stink. I hated it it was a wast of my money. it doesn't cling well, it has moved off the foam a little then I have a sticky stamp, I absolutely hated it. jmho

Thanks for the answer and that is good to know! The chip would be a little softer than my hard table so I'll keep that in mind.

Ditto. I started this way and won't waste anymore $$ on Vinyl cling. The tacky techniques don't work in my house which is near construction(high dust) and has cats. EZ Mount only for me.

I may not need it, but I like it. It makes me feel secure to have the stamps attached to something. If I had to rip the bare rubber off each time, I'd be afraid I'd rip them eventually. Perhaps I wouldn't but it would just make me nervous. (I'm a bit of a worrier by nature.) So, I actually enjoy the EZ Mount. I only unmount the sets that I think I'll love forever, and ever. So, I really want them to last as long as possible.
I tried both EZ mount and vinyl cling - went to vinyl for stamps that already had a cushion with adhesive on it - I prefer ez mount over vinyl with one exception....for very small stamps vinyl is easier because it is just too hard to cut the foam for a small stamp. Cutting a small piece of vinyl is much easier.
EZM Mount works similar to vinyl cling, but it is not foam with vinyl cling attached. The properties of the foam create the cling. I tried vinyl cling first for my unmounted stamps and hated it because it lost the cling quickly. I've been using EZ Mount for years now and I've never had a problem.

I'm with you...'naked' rubber for me! Only stamps I have with foam are those I purchased with foam, with the foam so firmly attached that removing it from the stamp would take too much time and effort. And I don't fiddle with cling vinyl either.
A dab or two of a repositionable glue on the back of a stamp will hold a stamp firmly on an acrylic block.

sunday international makes a thin mount for those small stamps it works wonderful. make them easier to stamp also. the mount is a little more denser. so it doesn't rock and it has the same cling that the ez mount has!!!!!!!!! gotta get u some!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have just finished unmounting all of my stamps, I did it a couple of different ways.
1. For most of the stamps that I pulled off blocks the foam was still in tact, the biggest part of the adhesive stayed on the wooden block. What I had left on the cushion was just tacky, as if I had applied the tacky glue and let it dry, for these I left them as they were.
2. For stamps that the cushion needed replaced I used new EZmount cling.
3. For any new Stampin up stamps I take the sticker (that you would normally put on the wooden block to index it) and put both sticky sides together. I then trim my stamp. To use the stamp I apply a small piece of double stick tape to get the stamp to adhere on my block. Doing it this way I also get to see the stamp as I'm stamping. I get a couple of uses out of the piece of tape before I need to change it. The only thing you need to watch is don't stick a stamp that is mounted on EZ mount over the tape. When you pull the stamp off it will tear the foam cushion. I just use the other side of my block, so one side is for the EZ mount and the other with double stick tape.
Hope this is clear, it may seem like I'm rambling. Just PM me if you have any questions. If I get a chance, I will scan some pics in.
I totally agree with khogan.
When I first used unmounted I only used the vinyl cling...within six months or so they didn't cling anymore.
Now I just use EZmount for all my stamps and don't have a problem.

Interesting... the vinyl cling I bought from Cowtown is quite old and it still works great.
I do think that the only stamps I used it on were Stampin' Up with its foam still attached. I would not recommend vinyl cling on bare rubber with no foam.
I had used vinyl cling from sunday int. with SU! foam still attached. Lost its cling within one year. Don't know why. Now I only use EZ mount and am very happy.

I use ONLY EZ mount. For those little stamps, there is a thin EZ mount which works great. Also if you use a hot knife to cut out your stamps on the EZ mount that also works much better than using a scissors. AND another hint I read somewhere is if you take the backing off which protects the cling and adhere to a piece of glass, then lay your stamps on the sticky side, as you cut them out with the hot knife the piece doesn't move. Because it is clinging, if you want to move it to cut easier it works quickly and easily. Because some of my itty bitty stamps have been falling off my acrylic mounts, we've put them on the thin EZ mount and I no longer have any problems with them. Also the thin EZ mount works perfectly with the SU stamps......but don't forget to take the protective paper off the sticky side like we did. ROFL. We thought there was something wrong with the sheet so I called the company and while speaking with the owner, I saw this very think white line between the stamp and the EZ mount! OY!

I have to add something that I learned here on SCS, I love it and will never use anything different. When you get a new stamp set (can do this with older ones, just a bit more time consuming), stick it to plain white printer paper then stick the design sticker on the paper before trimming the stamp. Then, stick the vinyl cling on your clear block. The clear paper used for the design sticker will stick to the vinyl cling. If you find it's not as sticky down the road, wash the vinyl cling on the block and let air dry. This is a very easy system for me to fix up and use.

Sunday International sells a new EZ Mount called EZ Mount Thin. It's just the black vinyl, no foam and it clings great. If you loose some of the stickiness, just use a little stamp cleaner on it and on your acrylic blocks and they stick very tight again. I bought one sheet to test it and loved it so much I am now in the process of re-mounting all of my stamps sets. It's absolutely fantastic! If you trim close enough, you'll never need to use Stamp-a-ma-Jig again because you can see where you are placing the stamp on your card stock. I e-mailed Stampin Up to see if they would consider offering their stamps for sale without the wood at a lower price. The answer was, "we feel our product is a great bargain and the wood is high quality". Well, yes it is, but I don't want wood. I believe Lizzie Anne stamps are now sold this way, no wood, but on a black cling very similar to EZ Mount thin. Check it out on the Sunday International site. Also SU demonstrators receive a 20% discount.

Actually, it is 1/16" black foam with the clear EZ Mount cling attached. Good stuff!! (The regular EZ Mount is 1/8" gray foam with the clear EZ Mount cling.)
Forgot to add: See the attached photo for a side by side comparison of the two EZ Mount foam thickness -- and my lovely stamping assistant in the background. Where I go, he goes.

I have used about every type of mounting system for unmounteds and I think my preference is plain rubber attached to my acrylic block with double sided tape. Easy to remove and clean the block when it loses its stickiness. I actually ended up peeling off my EZ Mount so I could get more stamps in my CD cases. Aren't we lucky that we have so many options available to us? Something for everyone.
I agree with Alyce. You don't need foam or cushioning as long as you have some kind of cushioning underneath when you use them. I just store the rubber in CD cases with nothing on them. When it's time you use them, I use Tack it Over and Over on acrylic mounts. Works for me.
Roxie, I'm a no-cushion UM stamper -- I just keep a stack of 4-5 sheets of scrap paper under what I'm stamping on and find that it provides plenty of cushioning. Some very small or very detailed stamps work better with *no* cushioning underneath the cardstock, so I always test-stamp first and remove my scrap paper if necessary. I'm with Nancy on the bit of repositionable adhesive on the back of the rubber, too -- I use Scotch's repo glue sticks. A thin layer is all you need, wait a minute or so, and you're ready to slap it on your acrylic block and stamp. Works for me!

Subscribing with a question. For you *no-cushion* gals, do you ever have trouble with ink getting on your block and, consequently, marring the image? I have this even with the thicker cushion (and, of course, it never happens until the LAST image on a complicated card or on a sheet of cardstock that I only have one of!)

Michelle - I have some stamps with cushion and some without - on both types, I only seem to have a problem with ink getting on the block if I'm using a block that's oversized for the stamp (which sometimes is necessary even though I have a pretty extensive selection of blocks.) Even then I could avoid it if I were more careful to not rock the block
Knowing this can be an issue, I always check the block first and make a quick swipe with a damp cloth or baby wipe to remove any stray ink.
