So there I was, cutting some cardstock with the trimmer on my lap, thinking for the milionth time "Your line is not straight! This is ridiculous! Use the table!" when I realized that I cannot be the only stamper out there with lame/weird stamping habits. So I thought I'd ask - what do you do when stamping/scrapping that to the outsider might appear strange/uncomfortable/lazy? Or AM I the only one? :-)
Nope you're not the only one! I totally do what you do with the cutter and often think...why is this on my lap? Other than that though...I don't think I have any really strange habits...stamping habits that is!
one of mine... i quite often forget to put scratch paper underneath my project so i get ink all over my table (thankfully it usually wipes off) and I also tend to get mono on my table which is a pain cause then my next project gets stuck to my table and gets "dirty" on the back :( all because I didn't use scratch paper..... you would think I would learn!
I will stamp images, color them, then never make a card with them. I do this with new techniques I try too. I also leave my stamp pads open, and bump my card against them, leaving an ink mark.

I HAVE to have a stamp set and then I get it...and it just sits there begging me to use it and collecting dust. Oh well, if the dust lands on the unused stamp sets it can't land on the furniture.
I make 3/4 of a card -- almost finish it and then let it languish forever. Also, I don't clean up often enough.
This is so me! I end up with all these half finished cards. I often end up doing the paper trimmer in the lap thing ... but usually becuase I've spread my stuff out from here to there on my table and my lap is the only place left to put it!!
I can get really bad about cleaning up my space. I go into a creative spree and its a flurry of paper & ink everywhere (and the all the little bits from the double-sided tape) ... and then I will collapse in bed with the ink still on the stamps.

Well, although this probably isn't my WORST habit, it's the most frustrating for me...
I use lined paper to put over my self-healing mat to avoid ink stains and make clean up easier. I also use my eyelet punch on this paper. Then I use EP or glitter, and when I go to put it back into the container, it all falls through the holes! You'd think I'd learn after about the 50th time doing this...
maybe 100's the charm!

I do this too! I have a file marked card parts. Sometimes I challange myself to use one of my "parts" but not often enough.
Yep. I do the paper trimmer on the lap thing too and I thought I was the only one. The other thing I do which is annoying and I don't know why I do it is to add things like Stickles or Dimentional Magic onto my cardfront before I mount it... I know full well I should do it at the end otherwise I'll make a mess of it, but I'm just so impatient to see the finished product.

saving left overs
I save the extra stamped bits. If I stamp an extra flower or whatever, I feel some odd need to hang on to it. Then weeks later I throw them away. Once I had a special drawer for these in my rolling cart. As if I could never stamp another if needed.

I tend to make lots of card with techniques and images store them in a box never to open it to use them.
My stamp room sometimes get to be a huge mess so that the next time I go in I have to spend that evening cleaning up only to not have time to stamp until the next day.
I buy stamps that I don't use too and I scrapbooking supplies only I haven't gotten into scraping yet.

hmmm, I have lots of bad habits..leaving stamp pads open, and leaning on them, leaving stamps inked, and leaning on them..I get covered with ink!
Not cleaning up from one project before I start on another...
Never putting things in the same place twice...
Saving way too many little scraps of ribbon, paper and stamped images...
And of course..buying way more stuff then i need!!!
My worst habit is not cleaning the stamps. Then next time I go to use them, they mess up my next project because the ink is off-color. And my stamp cases have ink all over them, too. The worst is the craft ink! What a mess. Very bad habit.

I think I do most of the habits already mentioned - don't clean up enough, half finished cards, using the cutter on my lap, buying too much stuff that I never use, leaving pads open and then "accidently" hitting the card on it, etc. etc. etc. Does this mean I am "normal"!!

I get tired of doing the same thing so I come on here and get lots of ideas, print them off and then the next time I stamp I don't even use them. I still do the same things over again.
The last NEW thing I tried was the toothpaste technique. Which was way cool by the way. I made 3 cards and then was not into doing anymore.
I really need to get a stamping group together to keep me on task. LOL:lol:

I start out with a clean table, get so much stuff out that I end up working in a tiny space. I don't even realize that I've run out of room. I vow to try to clean up as I go. I never work with just a few supplies, I just keep pulling stuff out. My DH said I must like being in the middle of clutter.

OK, I'm curious as to why all of you are using your cutter on your lap....
I have no idea. Part of it, for me, is as someone mentioned above - I pull all of my supplies out and don't leave myself much room. But, it's still on my lap when the table is empty. Have no real clue why...
This is so me! I end up with all these half finished cards. I often end up doing the paper trimmer in the lap thing ... but usually becuase I've spread my stuff out from here to there on my table and my lap is the only place left to put it!!

Now that is me. I just noticed the other day that I didn't have room for the paper cutter because everything was kind of closing in around me. I kind of pushed it to the side to make room for the cutter, then had to push even more because the edge of my paper couldn't lay flat.
My worst habit is that I don't clean my stampin scrub enough. I'll clean off a background or two plus I've been using craft ink more - so my black stampin scrub gets dirty fast - and yet I try to find that one small square on it where it's not dirty b/c I'm too lazy to go upstairs and clean it off (I stamp in my basement).
Then, when I do get the notion to take the scrub upstairs to clean, I leave it out to dry and then forget to take it downstairs again. So the next day, when I go downstairs w/o remembering it, instead of going back upstairs to fetch it - I just try to stamp off my ink on my scratch paper.
I've actually thought of buying more than one scrub for the sole reason of not having to clean them as often - how pathetic is that??? (I haven't done it yet - so right now it's just a dirty thought!)
OK, I'm curious as to why all of you are using your cutter on your lap....
i do it because it is large, and my room is such a mess, i only leave a 1.5x1.5 clean area to stamp, and the cutter just doenst fit.. but it fits well in my lap without me having to clean...
Probably my worst habit is that instead of putting stamps, tools and such away as I finish working with them, I sit them on the floor beside me. Depending on how long a creative streak lasts, I literally cover the floor with stuff. And since I'm putting stuff on the floor, I can't be creative if there's dog hair on the floor as it bugs me to put my stuff on the dirty carpet. So then I have to clean everything up so that I can vacuum my dark blue carpet so that it's free of the long auburn hair from my Aus. Shep. I end up spending more time cleaning and vacuuming than stamping (why do dogs shed?). And if that's not a bad habit, then I don't know what is!
The other habit that annoys me to no end is that it takes me forever to finish a scrapbook page. I'll sit down at a crop and start working on a page (or a card) that I can't finish cuz I know I have the perfect tool or embellishment at home. My 'in progress" scrapbook grows faster than my scrapbook with completed pages!
Don't you think it's bad when you have to have a system for organizing your incomplete layouts and cards????

The reason I am using my cutter on my lap is because my "work" area is covered with all the stuff I never put away, all the things I refuse to throw away because I "might" need it some day and because I am usually in a hurry to make something, since I never plan ahead, and I don't have time to clean up before I work on something new. I sound pathetic! How does one get out of these habits!!

This is me!! i just the ohter day reorganized my stamp room.... only to make a complete mess because I got an inspiration..... and now it is a total mess again!! *sigh* It really doesn't stop me from getting back in there to stamp again!!
I sit upstairs and look through my magazines or come here to SCS and get inspired and then don't do anything about it. Maybe if I had more than a TV try to work on (not kidding)...I can go all day if my sister comes over, but to sit here by myself and do it, I just don't get it done.
