I've got one of those tall circular containers that a bottle of scotch came in. It's about 12 inches high and 3 1/4 inches diameter. With the metal cap that you pull off.
It's screaming at me to be altered and it would be pretty with DP and ribbons and stamps etc. If I was a knitter, which I'm not, it would be a lovely needle holder. I don't want anything in my small apartment that I can't actually use for a purpose, so does anyone have any ideas what I could do with something like that?
thanks.

I don't know the exact measurements and this wouldn't incorporate the lid that came on it, but you could try to use it as a container for tall utensils in the kitchen.
I like the idea of using it as a gift container in the future, although unless you have something in mind for it soon it won't really help with your space issue.
How about if you put a tall thin vase in it to hold flowers? You could put something in the bottom to act as a stand so you don't need to come up with a 12" vase.
Thanks everyone for the ideas! I love the idea to make it into a vase holder. I bet I could get a cheap glass vase at Mikes or somewhere. The ribbon idea is good too. I certainly do need a way to keep those things controlled. But I hate to cut it. Maybe if I get a second one.
I have tried to add the picture of it to this message. let's see if i figured out how to make a thumbnail.
p.s. the scotch was yummy.

I use containers like that to mail things in. I've used oatmeal boxes before also. They can be decorated and you can make nifty mailing labels for them. I seem to mail quite a few packages during the year, and I'll be darned if I'm going to buy a shipping carton! I need all of my dollars to fund my stamping habit!
