One of the local demos is having a stamping event with SU...here is what she is doing.
40 cards for $25...if you want 40 envelopes, they are $6 extra....does anyone else think that is a bit much for the envelopes?
The thing in the paper says allow 90 mins to make 40 cards...umm, it usually takes me that long to make ONE, let alone FORTY!! LOL
The stamp camp I usually go to has 5 cards plus one other project and that usually take at least an hour...so how can making only 40 cards take 90 mins??
Hmmm...I'd guess that the cards are super simple, and also that you'll do duplicates of fewer than 40 designs. Sounds like an interesting concept, though.

No....the Whisper White envelopes are $5.95 for 40 in the SU catalog. You are actually getting them at a deal..no shipping or tax.I would imagine since she's a SU demo that she'll be using SU envies.

Yes, my point was this ~ why would I buy 40 envies for $6 when I can go to Office Depot and get 200 of them for less than half the price and they are the exact same thing.
Sounds a little ambitous. I can't imagine making 40 cards in that amount of time. It takes me forever to make one.
I totally agree and now I'm scared to go! LOL I'm afraid there is no way I'm gonna get all those done and then I'll panic and then we'll have chaos!!! :-D
Well, actually the SU envelopes are of a higher quality than what you would find at Office Max and the like...they are really awesome. I, myself, don't charge for envelopes but I haven't ever done a thing like what she is doing...

I'm not a demo, and I do buy my envelopes at Staples $25/200 (CAD), but my demo used some, and you really can tell the difference. They're a lot smoother. For everyday use, no biggie. But for demos, yeah.

Did it say 40 "different" cards? Maybe you'll be making several of a few different designs? It takes me a long time to come up with an idea but if I go to an event where the design is already there, I can whip up some stuff in not time!! LOL!

I think that she (or he) is probably offering them as a convenience to those that may not want to run all over getting envelopes to go along with the cards. Some might think that their time and their gas is worth the little extra they will pay to get the envies from her. And it might save them the trouble of trying to remember to pick some up the next time they are shopping. I know I can barely remember the milk at the grocery store and that's a staple in our house! :-)
And really, at $25 for the class and $6 per envelope you are still only paying $1.25 per card w/ envelope and that doesn't include the teaching she might be doing.

They're a LOT smoother (we made a bagalope from one). So for everyday use, I would think why bother, but as a demo, she probably HAS to use those ones, right?

Yes, any products that we demo MUST be SU unless it is something we do not make..ie-primaflowers and stuff like that that we may add on to a card...but we could not demo Staples envelopes with our stuff...and really it would not be prudent to do that since we DO sell them and they are better.

Oh but they aren't the same thing. SU envies are awesome!

I think the point of making it optional was so you would have the freedom to choose if you needed them or not, so what's the big deal? And when I go to stamp camp I pay $12 for about 10 cards, so I don't see it really being overly expensive. If you have questions I'm sure she would be happy to answer them, as opposed to you possibly missing out on a great time for having the wrong information. Just a thought.

If you can go to office depot and get them then do just that. Why would you attempt to "bash" a demo for giving them at a better cost then you could get them out of the catty. My point is, demo's do it for a business most of the time and buying our supplies all thru the catty is what wins us great trips and incentives from Stampin' Up. 90 min is great time to do 40 cards. You are probably gonna be making like 5 of each kind. She will have all the work done, cutting, creating, and setting up, all you have to do at an event like this is show up, stamp, glue and be happy.

Okay, seeing as there has been enough nastiness on the board today, I'm ignoring this.

My guess is that everything is pre-cut in "kits" and all you need do is stamp an image and then assemble the cards. Some very darling cards can be made this way; and the demo would simply be eliminating all the cutting time/work for each person.
I took an "A Muse" class that was 20 cards in 30 minutes that was along these same lines. We actually did create them in the time allowed. If I did the very same cards at home ... having to cut everything myself ... it would have taken way longer for sure.
Please don't bomp me, but wouldn't selling envelopes like this be considered "cash and carry" and be against Stampin' Up rules?
I think the event sounds like it would be worth the money; and even if you couldn't peronally finish that many cards in the time allowed, you would have FUN and meet a lot of new friends as well.
Have a FUNtastic day!

sounds like a steal! I have planned many stamp a stacks (none from the kits but many stamped ones) and they are great! I include envelopes in my cost (no choice) but since I do stamped designs the people usually stamp the envies to match the cards they are making.

Whoa...that's a completely different thing! You'll be using patterned cardstock and "self-adhesive die cuts" from the simply scrappin' kit. Check out the concept in the galleries.

Barb, what do you mean...there is a gallery exclusively for the SS kits?? *goes off to look*
We'll be making 40 cards, made from one Simply Scrappin Kit (Summer Sketches) and white cardstock all pre-cut. Plan on 90 mins to complete all cards.
Awwww... YES... you will easily be able to create 40 cards in 90 minutes! You might wish to check out the gallery showing various ways these kits can be used to create cards:

I see what you're saying but she's just giving you the option of a higher quality envie to go with the cute cards you'll be making!
If you haven't seen any of SU WW envies I recommend you buy 1 for .15 cents (or ask your demo...she'll probably give you 1) and stamp on it and compare it with the ones you get from Office Depot. .....BIG difference.
DOH! I just realized why I couldn't find any...I was looking under the scrapbooking pages!! DUH!
Sometimes a 'mini-mistake' can be a very good thing! You have now seen some wonderful ideas in the scrapbook section that you might not otherwise have had the chance to view.
Do have a FUNtastic time at your stamping event!

Thanks for taking the high road on this. I didn't find anything wrong with your post. It was an innocent question. This kind of response like the one you got makes me feel like keeping a list of demos NOT to call when I want to place an order. ;)
