In July my family (WHOLE family. DH, son, parents, brothers & their families, married nieces & their spouses...) are taking a trip. We will all be driving to our destination, spending a week in a rented house, and seeing the historical sites. I want to make some sort of trip Journal for the children. There are 5 boys ranging in ages between 5 & 13. I think I can come up w/ an idea for the girl. But would appreciate any suggestions for the boys. I want to make it fun and functional. I think I'll use the SU 5x5 Journals & tie on a pen. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to cover/decorate these books. Also, what about any ?'s, etc. that I can have them write about either on the LONG drive or while there. While on this subject, any ideas for something to give the adult couples? I had once thought I would make little scrapbooks but I think everyone is more interested in doing digital. It would be fun to have something to give to everyone @ some point.
Thanks for looking. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Some ideas for the boys' journals could be maps, compasses, vehicles, images of the historical sites you'll see, images of the wildlife/trees in the area, words/phrases like "journey", "travel", "getaway", "roadtrip", "on our way", "away we go", etc.
Hope this helps!

I just love the smell of Stazon in the morning!
My boys love camoflague. They each have a trip journal covered in camo paper. They decorated their own with American flags mostly. I hope that helps a little.
I just bought a few stamps from Art Declassified through their espionage line. You could do a journal like a spies log. They could write as if they are a secret agent seeking out important facts. It could really be a lot of fun. At night the kids could compare notes and see what the others saw. They could take little cameras and later add the pics to the pages or paste in fliers and such. How fun (the trip)!!! The adults might enjoy playing along and you've got everyone covered!

My son liked bugs...yuck. But it kept him occupied and looking for bugs while walking around instead of complaining about how bored he was or picking on his sisters. The boys can go on a bug hunt.
this isn't exactly stamping related, but maybe you could find some ideas, i went to google and typed in road trip games and game up with lots to keep my kids busy on a long drive.
I make journals for my nieces and nephew out of the composition book syou can get them 4 for a $1 at various stores and then I just cover them with dp & c/s and add stamps, stickers, (glitter for girls) and they love them! Always get more requests for another every few months or sooner for some of them!
Sorry this is long My family and I just returned from a trip of lifetime last night. We spent 1 week in Disneyworld (along with thousands of other families!) and then had a week on a Royal Caribbean cruise to Jamaica. My son (age 7) has a fantastic grade 2 teacher and she sent a 15 page 8 1/2 x 11 booklet for him to fill out as he wanted. Her pages were: 1) title page with "My Trip to" and "By Name, Date, Age", 2) a hand-drawn picture of an open suitcase with the title: "Things I put in my suitcase" for my son to draw what we put in his suitcase, 3) A hand-drawn art easel titled "Draw the people you went with". 4) "My tickets", "How long my trip took", "Where I started", Where I went to" for my son to draw and fill in, 5) A photocopied world map with instructions to "Draw where you went", 6 & 7) "People I met" with two dialogue bubbles, each one containing "name, age and what we did together" with instructions to draw the people in the bottom half of the page, Pages 8,9,10,11,12 titled "Today is __________", Today I ______" and "Today the weather was:", Page 13 is "I spy with my little eye something that begins with ..." and then there are lines with one letter of the alphabet each to record discoveries and adventures, pages 14 & 15 are titled "Pictures and Postcards". It enriched my son's experience using this booklet and it was fascinating to read his viewpoints of our trip. My son already has a dollarstore journal we decorated with his favourite stickers from a retired SS kit. From now on, I will add these titles and more into his journal for trips in the future. It was a fun way to record memories.
Hope this is of use to you! Sue
