What a kick! There isn't much I would say I "loathe"--more like I can appreciate that others like it, but it's not something that floats my boat or gives me the vapors in the way that things I adore do.

Adore:
OLC's
CAS's
Lots of white space
6x6" patterned papers (pretty much all of it by every company that's putting it out!)
Florals
Birds
Foliage/Trees/Branches/Leaves
Travel/postage/office themes
Coffee themes
Bold/Graphic design
Urban/contemporary design
Organic design
Typography/font work
Text backgrounds
Faux bois/woodgrain
Glitter
Brads
Eyelets
Ribbon
Twine
Retro
Polka Dots in all sizes
Buttons
Lightweight chipboard
Puns/humor
Classic patterns
Classic shapes and lines
Watercolor
Sketched illustration work
Wood mounts (what can I say, I'm old school)
...and the list could go on for miles and miles, cuz I like so many different things.

Loathe:
Rub-ons
Fibers
Wire
Sap (as in drippy/sappy drivel kinda sentiments)

What a fun thread! Here's my short list:

LOVE:
Sewing on cards
CAS
Cardstock in every color possible
Nature stamps (flowers, trees, birds, etc)
Ribbon
Jillibean Soup
6x6 paper pads (Cosmo Cricket, Basic Grey especially)
Using fabric on cards

Dislike:
Patterned paper not offered in 6x6 pads
Stamp kits that don't match or have a theme
Big puffy flowers
Textured cardstock
People stamps

If all the replies are a good indicator then how come so many of us hate anime, manga, Tilda/Bellas/Magnolia type kiddies but they seem to appear on so many cards???
Haven't seen the headless ones but can imagine how awful they must look.

*chuckle*

Well, the replies aren't an indicator of anything other than what each individual has specified as liking or disliking.

I wouldn't interpret it as anything more than that, because it's not a scientific poll, UKWIM?

I sorta like everything. My hubby will vouch for me on that.

I tend to dislike projects that take more than an hour. Other than that back to the top line.

I like almost everything these days, have always been somewhat eclectic.

Really like:
Fresh colors and a good sense of color use.
small embellishments
narrow ribbons
solid colored ribbon
stamps that can be colored in
owls and animal stamps-my family have no clue as to trends and love them too!
Kraft card stock and envelopes
a touch of shimmer where appropriate
6 inch paper packs with scaled down patterns
simple wrap around with threads on cards-missed the first go around with this trend and I have tons of threads being a stitcher.

I'm not so fond of:
Big headed kid stamps
Build a Bear-the actual stuffed bear is way cuter!
big, grungy paper flowers on cards
cheap printed ribbon
tons of layers on cards
way out there distressed look
really chunky mini albums that can't close
drippy looking distressed edges
glittery pattern papers
cheap stickers
staples
stamps that look as if they were drawn by my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter

Some of the trendy looks remind me of fins on cars (yes, I'm old enough to remember those!) A trend gets huge to the point of being totally overdone, then collapses and vanishes. I'm waiting for handbags to lose all the bling and get smaller again!

But I pretty much like everything and my craft room shows it!

It's been fun reading the lists - so many I totally agree with!!

Love:

Penny Black stamps, ie: the cute cats, dogs, rabbits, mice, chicks etc
Elzybells stamps
CAS cards
Watercolouring
EK Success border punches
Buttons
Ribbons, more ribbons, lots & lots of ribbons.......
Cuttlebug
Sizzix & Crafts Too embossing folders
Kaiserscrapbook self-adhesive pearls
Chalks (for colouring backgrounds)
Charms
Spellbinder Nesties
Chalk inks
Splitcoaststampers - it's changed my whole world into a much more beautiful place

Loathe:

Stamps with faces that have no nose or mouth (I call them bloated peanut face stamps) sorry if that offends anyone

Cards that have their images at different & odd angles (I'm a neat freak and can't get my head around it - I'm always the one straightening the pictures on my wall in my house!!) I just can't stand them - I would reach thru my screen and straighten them if I could!

Cards with decorative pins - ouch!! Not very mailable!
400 layer cards
Collage stamps
Altered images (like others said with chess pieces, crowns, odd-looking faces)
Kraft cardstock
Most glues because I have so many different ones, but still my embellies don't stay on like they are supposed to!

Oooh, I wanna play......

Love

Butterflies
Kraft cardstock
heat embossing
my Bind-it-All
Chalk Ink
Pattern Paper
glitter

Loathe

Coloring images (I am just not good at)
rub-ons - I used some the other day and I was rubbing forever and I could not get it to come off the backing
Although I love glitter I also loathe it because the clean up is such a pain - I use glitter on a card or project and end up covered in it.

I am sure I have more to add to each catagory but it is getting late and I can't think straight. LOL!

background or big stamps... my hands can't grasp em properly

Hi!
I have small hands too..... it was always a stretch to reach an octave with short pinkies!

To solve this problem, I mean situation, I have a brayer and scrap paper for when I use the big stamps. I ink the stamp on it's back really well and then press the paper on the stamp! ( cover with a piece of printer paper/ or any light paper to protect your brayer. Roll it and voila! They come out great every time.

This thread is fun and proves that "someone else's trash is someone's treasure"

I like ~

sewing on cards
some shabby chic
CAS
ribbon
gingham
red
solid images
buttons
punches
paper piecing line images with DP (so I don't have to color them in)
meaningful sentiments
using stamps for awhile, then selling them and buying new ones
SU cling stamps (never thought I would order these instead of wood mounted)

I dislike ~
bumpy cards that require extra postage
animals or people with creepy faces
images made to look like a "2 year old drew them" (Would never buy a stamp like this, would have my 2 year old draw it instead and save the money)
coloring in stamped images
loose glitter
canned / overused sentiments
stamps that were mounted wrong / crooked
flimsy cardstock

quit it with the loathing staples people............. (giggle, jk!)
sort of!

I also love a good rub-on...if it is hard to apply---it is NOT good. Try rub-ons from Cosmo Cricket or October Afternoon (they are like buttah!)

I'm head of heels for these trends:
  • clean and simple designs
  • well-kerned sentiments in fabulous fonts
  • food stamps
  • small scale patterned papers
  • the return of yellow!
  • whimiscal--but not cutesy--critters
  • paper piecing
  • clouds and their friends--umbrellas, rainbows, hot air balloons, kites, sunshine sentiments, etc...
  • grandma chic--doilies, lace, tea cups, etc...
  • pennants
Not feeling these:
  • double- and triple-matting
  • multiple ribbons tied on tags, coils, handles, etc.
  • large or realistic prima flowers
  • swirls of bling
  • heavy distressing/antiquing
  • most people stamps (exceptions: Santa Claus and A Muse's Seattle Girl)
  • staples on cards
  • mixed fonts in sentiments and stamp sets
  • props in card photos

There are exceptions to every rule though and I'm likely to change my mind about some of these. Heck, half the stuff I love now will make it into the not-so-much list once I'm tired of the trend. That's what trends do, right?

Okay, this thread has had me in stitches, so I feel I must list my own loves/hates!

Love:

splitcoaststampers
comments on my cards
Bellas
Buttons
pearls and rhinestones
prima flowers
flower stamps
prismacolour pencils
CAS cards
ribbon
layers
Basic Grey DP
kiwi kiss
stitching on cards (MUST buy a small sewing machine!)

LOATHE:

any image that would be best employed on a birthday card for someone under the age of 8, ie., big-headed children who lack noses and mouths but have eyes like saucers and are somehow meant to be cute and winsome but don't belong on cards for adults; also - robots

stamps depicting pouting or tantrum throwing children. I can't imagine any situation where that would seem appropriate for a card!!

Evil looking Krafting Kimmie stamps.

Headless women!!! WTH!????

Anthropomorphized animals - Moose should not drive cars, lounge in hammocks or go skiing, and mice should not bake or tend gardens. Even worse - unicorns.

Glad to get that off my chest!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

You don't ... (gasp) ... give your cards away?!

You don't really mean that I'm supposed to send my babies off somewhere ... to someone else ?!?!? I might like my cards to be 'mailable' (able to go into an envelope with no additional postage) but that doesn't mean I'm actually going to DO it!

LOL!

LOL!! I do give my cards away, occasionally! I'm ashamed to say I keep far more than I mail, and I NEVER get a card in the mail on time for anything!!

It has been fun reading everyone's likes and dislikes. It is nice to know that despite what we all think, there is enough of us that all the companies will be in the black becasue we all spend so much money on their products (even those who create big headed kids with no mouths... LOL!!)

Right now I am totally addicted to (but will likely change within the week):

sewing on my cards
polka dots
BasicGrey papers (although I tend to hoard but I am trying to fix that!)
Papertrey Ink
Hero Arts
Clean and Simple
Good old ink and paper cards
nature inspired images (trees, flowers, bugs, fruit, etc.)
string, linen, hemp, etc.
buttons
woodgrain

my dislikes are much fewer ... so few I can't even think of anything at this very moment. I guess I could say that I don't make cards with 'people' on them, especially those vintage pictures ... just seems strange to me to give my sister a card with some strange kid on it. I think the cards themselves look great, it just feels weird to me to have strangers on my cards! LOL!!

Oh how I wish some quick computer program could tally these lists. Think what a bonus that would be for merchants!

My Number One Passion is quality, no matter the product, thus my Top Ten:
Dreamweaver stencils and embossing paste
VersaFine ink pads
Genesis paper trimmer
Gina K. cardstock
3M gold ATG
Wood block stamps by companies that ALWAYS do deep etching
Judikins Detail Embossing Powders
Pigma Micron Pens
Silk ribbon
May Art's anything

My first 20 hates are the shoddy products I wasted money on before I discovered the good products I can rely on, and my next twenty are about vendors who make their profit by charging way more than the true shipping cost. As for trends I don't like, can't think of any in particular because it depends more on the artist than the trend, I think. CAS is always my preference, and if it's on the Simplicity blog, I just know I'm gonna have to try my best to copy it.

I love variety, which makes SCS my favorite web site and Community.

Dislike/hate

Anything digital! Printing is not stamping
Kids/humans/girl images - weird or realistic they have no place on my card
cityscapes, stores, buildings
coffee/tea images
furniture images- i just dont get it
Punny Cards - i love looking at them, but hate making them
Grunge
11372136 layer cards - how do these even stand up?
COPICS - I am a stamper not a colorist. I do like to color just not on my cards
Images that need to be colored in a lot - I'll shade my Penny Black Stamps, but if I need to color everything, no thanks!
Connected bling like Zva rhinestone flourishes - I can see the clear connective part which makes them look cheap
crackle paint
Religious images and sentiments
SU! - there are just better things out there I think. I dont hate them, I just turn to other companies
Farm animals - why would I want them on a card??
Cricut - I dont like it on cards
Cheap anything! - quality cardstock is worth it..thankfully I learned that quickly enough so I didn't waste too much $$
The word "embellies" - makes me stabby

I am sure there is more in either category =)

I am so with you on shoddy products!

I need to add to my dislikes:

Chipboards stickers that don't stick
Marker tips that fray too soon when you still have a lot of ink left in the barrel
glue sticks that don't adhere
rubons that won't rub on
incomplete or incorrect instructions

I'm sure there are more ...

Hmmm... let's see

LOVE(!)
Birds (owls included)
Matching cardstock, ribbon, buttons, etc.
Good quality white cardstock
Watercoloring techniques!
Youtube technique videos
Nestabilities (how did I ever do without them)
Penny Black clear stamps
Ribbon, Ribbon, Ribbon
CAS cards
Cards with mixed media (read: stamps and rubons, stamps and handwriting, etc)
Right now I'm very into my Cricut and my Slice (thanks to My Pink stamper!)
Stamp sets with common themes
I'm dying to try the Letterpress (but reserve judgment)

DISLIKE OR SEVERELY DISLIKE
Sewing on cards (love the look... no time to go the extra step.)
Techniques that require 1000 products.
Kits that include too much stuff you wont use. (that I willingly bought, of course)
Rub-ons that dont rub-on
Stamps that wont leave a clean impression
Blotchy ink
Mean people.

I still love vintage and collage and distressed looking stuff and I can never get enough bling (rhinestones, pearls, etc.).

I am so over:
owls
birds and birdcages
kindergarten images (stick figures, fat alphabets and numbers)
Quickutz (the company)
stickers of any kind
cards with funky 3-d, pop-up folds that never fit in envelopes
stickles or anything that takes all night to dry
