Default Tracking on packages

Has anyone ever heard that a package has to be a a minimum thickness to have tracking placed on it? I cant believe that all the swaps and all the items I have mailed this is the first I have heard of this.

It has to be a package, not a plain envelope. I think the thickness is 3/4" or it has to be rigid. I ship using a padded envelope and put a piece of cardboard in as a backer and have never had an issue.

I remember when I was going through custody issues that I would send letters to the other party with a delivery confirmation and I thought those got tracked...maybe not actually "tracked" as in "followed" now that I think of it...maybe I just got notification when it was dropped off? I will have to think on this one and figure out how I did it; I seem to remember signing onto USPS.com and checking all day long just to see where it was.

If you sent them priority, regardless of thickness, you'd have been able to get delivery confirmation. If you sent them certified or registered or express, there would be a number, too.

First class, though, can only have tracking on PACKAGES, which are defined based on size, which includes thickness.

I was just surprised. I was mailing from the postal counter at our grocery store. I am not always confident the "teens" that work there know the postal stuff.
