Default Tiki bar card

Hi all,

I'm trying to design a card that is a replica of a tiki bar. I have the whole card laid out in my mind but I'm struggling with how to make the top of the bar (thatching - like a grass skirt) out of paper. I'm wondering if I should just use actual thatching on the card or if I should try and cut out paper to resemble that look of a tiki bar at the top. I'm really stumped and thought I would come to the most creative folks on earth with this questions. I've done searching on this website and online but nothing has really helped. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Joanne

Hmmm, I'm wondering if maybe mulberry paper would be a good choice? Something fiber-y anyway....

hmmm rafia might be an awesome idea! I didn't even think of that. I was so caught up in thinking about doing it out of paper that I wasn't thinking outside the "box". i could shred it some how with scissors to give it that grass skirt look. I think I have some in the house I will experiment with. I think I just need to make the card and then play with different ideas for the top and see how they look. Thank you!

I hope it turns out to be a good idea for you--post a pic if you get a chance...I'd love to see how the card turns out!

Just last night I was considering purchasing one of these Shredder Scissors. It would be fun to play with for crafting.
Probably way too slow for shredding a lot of documents.

I used toothpicks on a card to resemble a tiki roof, I trimmed the pointy parts of and inked some of them . HERE is a picture, then I used glossy accents to adhere them good luck!!! Stef
