Default Tidy Tray Question??

I have the SU Black tidy trays. They work well to keep my table tidy but it seems like the embossing powder really sticks to them. I try to push it all off with my finger but there is always so much left that I need to rinse it with water or wipe it with a Swiffer cloth. I'm using up a lot more powder this way. Is there any thing to do to make them work better? I tried washing them with soap and water. Any other tricks?

TIA,
Anita

I 've had the same thing happen...so I've started just putting my card over a piece of scrap paper, then funneling the extra powder into the container when I'm finished. I've been thinking about rubbing the embossing buddy or a dryer sheet over the tray before I start my project...not sure if that would help and haven't had a chance to try it yet. Can't wait to hear other people's ideas....

Anita,

I wipe the trays with a used Bounce sheet before I start. This works for me.

I don't use my tidy tray--a piece of folded printer paper works way better, but I have heard that people rub the tray with a dryer sheet to cut the static. I suppose you could also try rubbing the tray with your embossing buddy. If it works for the paper, it should also work for the tray.

Also try using a coffee filter rather than paper- works great!

If I have a lot of embossing to do, I pour some EP into a plastic storage container (like Gladware or Ziploc) and spoon it over the image with a small strip of cardstock. Never had a real problem with static. If I had a bigger workspace I would keep all my EP colors in the shallow plastic containers rather than pouring it from the jar each time.

When I'm only doing one or two cards I just use one of the junk printouts from my computer to catch the excess EP.

I keep a small art brush handy and just sweep the excess powder down the hole back into the bottle. Works like a charm.

Default $1 tidy trays

I don't know how to keep the powder from sticking. I was wondering that myself. But... today I was at the Target $ spot and they have beading trays that look just like the tidy trays.

I have the Tidy Tray, but never use it for embossing powders.....I've never found a way to keep the powder from sticking. I bought some shallow, square plastic food storage containers to store my frequently used EP colors in, on the advice of my demonstrator, and it makes things much easier. I just hold the CS over the container and use a small plastic dipper to pour the EP on it. I shake the excess back into the container, and there's never any mess!
For the colors in my Embossing Stacks, I just use a clean piece of computer paper and pour the extra back into the jar.
The tray does come in handy for micro beads and regular beads, though!

Oops! Rachel said just about the same thing in her post, Sorry to be so redundant!

Ditto for me. The static of the tray was driving me crazy! A dryer sheet didn't even work that well for me.

Thank you for the suggestions. I tried the embossing buddy. I think it was an improvement the first time but on the second piece I wanted to emboss with the same powder it stuck just as before. Maybe I'll get some dryer sheets to try. I used to use a piece of "junk printout" from my computer but was hoping this would work better. Maybe the tidy trays will be better with glitter and/or microbeads.

I quit using the Tidy Trays for EP because of the static. I just use a sheet of good ole card stock, tried and true. I do use the trays for micro beads, though-- they are great for those.

I tried dryer sheets and it seemed to make the problem WORSE. I've given up on tidy tray, except for Microbeads.

Now, what I have found works best is a piece of vellum. Nothing sticks to it. It all seems to go right back into the bottle. I can easily sacrifice one piece of vellum for this. I've been using the same piece for about a year now, and it still works as good as day one.

Good Luck.

Try vellum, cardstock or a small cardboard box. As long as you're not using plastic you should do better.

I always store my tidy trays with a dryer sheet in them. Never have an issue. I love them!

I haven't tried this yet, but when this topic was addressed some time ago someone said that they waxed the inside of their tray with car wax and that made the surface slippery so things don't slip.. I've got some wax here in the house. I think I'll go give it a try. I agree that the trays are the best for beads!!

I have tried the embossing buddy and dryer sheets on my tidy tray and everything still sticks! Forget about it! I read a tip before (probably on here) to use sheets of old catalogs you get in the mail, like Lands' End to emboss on. I also use them for messy things like glue I know will get on it. I always have plenty, it is recycling and works great! The EP doesn't stick to that shiny paper. Who woulda thunk it? Someone obviously, and I'm so glad she shared this tip.

I thought I read in one of the Stampin' Success magazines that if you wash your Powder Pal with dishsoap, dry, then wipe with the embossing buddy that it would take out the static.

I just use my embossing buddy and it works fine. I sweep the left over powder back into the jar with my watercolor brush.

I'm with Christie on this one, the paper works great and its easier to store and the good thing is I can use that ugly bright green paper that was given to me. The only problem is I use the same piece of paper for six to twelve months at least.

I tried the embossing buddy on the tray and it was no help. Even the glass beads clung to it.

Problem? What problem? I'd say that using the same piece of paper for such a long time shows that you're frugal where it counts - makes more $$ for buying stamps!!

So true and I thought of that already but I just gotta say that paper is the ugliest color ever. So bright it almost hurts the eyes and I still have a 1/4" stack of it left.
Now back to the tray, I got the bright idea that it would help me package up some very small punched shapes. Wrong, the hole got clogged up and the static is still a problem. I tried!

My demo usually uses a piece of tissue paper, and it works perfectly. No static at all. I still use the tidy tray under the paper, though, just to keep clean-up to a minimum in case I spill some.

You could use it if you brayer over it in another color. Maybe a darker green? A background stamp like Paisly Print or Canvas should work to tone it down, too.

Default Brayer use

Hey Happy Heart,

I just did this brayer over a brighter color on a couple St. Patrick's Day cards and I linked the card. The print was just to bright to go with the card theme. So DUH! Why didn't I think to do that with this ugly stuff? Thanks so much for the reminder and I'm going to give that a try, but what will I use for my EP then? I know, some ugly bright pink. Can you tell I'm not into ultra brights? Thanks again!

I had the same problem but I tried a makeup brush (the one used for over all powder) that I picked up at a dollar store. I just leave the hole sealed and tilt the tray away from the hole and use the brush to sweep the excess out of one of the corners. It works great and the tray keeps clumsy me from knocking the EP off the table or setting my clean cardstock on it.

I keep my EP and Glitter in the Cheap Gladware Square Sandwich containers along with a plastic spoon. I probably have 50 diff colors of the Art Glitter and a dozen or so EP. I absolutely love storing them that way cause I have no cleanup.
