To those that make their own envelopes
How do seal the envelopes you make yourself. I just bought the MS scoring board and made some envelopes for my xmas cards. But how do you seal them?

When they are for my own use, I just use a regular glue stick to seal them when I mail them.
If you are giving them as a gift with a set of cards, there are a few options. Some people add a line of Score Tape and leave the outside liner on, for the user to peel off when they seal the envie. You know, they make these kinds of self-seal envelopes now for cards and sell them at Walmart.
Then there is a kind of "glue" you can make and paint on. When the user licks it, it will seal the envelope. It was discussed in the Techniques forum and I copied the recipe by Leaine:
"One part Elmers white glue, one part white vinegar and whatever flavoring you want. Stir mixture. Paint on envelope edge with a flat brush and let dry. It will dry clear and when you "lick" it will stick. I've used this for many years with total success. It won't wrinkle your paper. Experiment with the amount you use."
I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like it would work.

There's a set of recipes for making your own glue on: Friendship-by-mail.com.
I've not used any of them myself so I can't vouch for them.
I tend to use double sided sticky tape, leaving the tabs on when selling the cards. I like to be sure that the envelope tab will always securely stick .

And double-sided tape - Scor-tape is just the brand supplied by Scor-Pal.

I like Greensneakers envelope glue (and, to be honest, I LOVE their envelope templates):

There is also a product called Lick 'n Stick that I use. I bought mine in Kate's Paperie. You can probably find it online.

Fun!! I'm doing a stamp camp in January or February and for one of the cards we'll be doing a matching envelope. What can you use to flavor it? Vanilla extract? Something powdery, like Kool Aid?

I posted an envelope glue recipe that uses gelatin on another board quite a while ago here: Homemade Envelope Glue
It works really well. I use it all the time when I make envelopes that I'm giving with cards. I flavour mine with cherry extract.

I use something similar to the Green Sneakers glue (the bottle looks the same) called Lick & Stick. I found it at Hobby Lobby for about $3. It's also repositionable, if that helps.

If you are making the envys to go with a card you are giving as a gift I would suggest double sided tape. Much more sanitary than licking the homemade glue. yuck..just turns me right off thinking about it! LOL I use double sided tape for my own envelopes also just for that reason.

For any newbies that may not understand - when it says "double sided tape" that means tape with a peel-off liner on one side, not the regular double sided tape from Scotch that comes in a dispenser.

I use my ATG gun for the sides and Lick n' Stick for the top. Sometimes if it is a card I'm mailing right away, I'll use the ATG gun for the top too. But, if I'm just making envies and storing them, I use the Lick n' Stick for the top flap. I love it! Doesn't taste bad and I've used it for years. I'm still alive!!! LOL.
